Garmin Edge 705 HR Cycling GPS with Heart Rate MonitorGarmin Edge 705 HR Cycling GPS with Heart Rate Monitor
Rated 5 Stars"A Great Bicycle Computer" 2009-09-24
The unit itself is small, sturdy, lightweight, and very easy to install. The software includes a training program and a mapping program. I bought mine with the Garmin map card, and that's made my club rides a real pleasure (no need for cue sheets). When I get home from a ride, I upload the data into the Garmin Training Center software, and I can compare every aspect of the ride to previous rides (distance, speed, cadence, heart rate, elevation, etc.). If I feel like it, I'll upload the ride onto the Garmin Connect webpage. I can't say enough good stuff about this GPS/bike computer. I haven't used it to figure out routes from Point A to Point B, but I can see where that would be a tough task for any system (how to choose safe bike routes from among the many alternatives?). All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase and would recommend this unit to anyone in the market for a bike computer or bike GPS.

I was ready to buy this laptop a few weeks ago, when it was listed for $950. The next day, the computer was unavailable. Then it was listed for around $1100, then over $1200, then unavailable, then back to around a thousand, and now it's almost $1300. At $950, it seemed like a good deal. At $1300, it's not.

Polk Audio miDock Portfolio (White)Polk Audio miDock Portfolio (White)
Rated 2 Stars"buy something else" 2007-01-16
There are plenty of choices, if you're in the market for iPod speakers, and I don't recommend this one. The big problem is the volume control. Polk decided to utilize (+)/(-) buttons for this feature, rather than a continuous control. The effect is that low-level listening (I bought this for my office) is almost impossible. The speakers are either too loud or too quiet. The control itself seems pretty flimsy, since the first unit I received was defective and had to be returned. Polk seems sort of confused about the issue, too. The one-page user manual that accompanies the unit states that the user may have to adjust the iPod volume, along with the miDock volume, to attain a satisfactory volume. The various iPods I've tried on the unit have no effect on the volume (regardless of the iPod volume).

Rated 1 Stars"pocket book at a multi-volume price" 2006-09-15
This small volume is well organized and has a fair amount of useful information. The kicker (and it's a huge kicker) is the cost. The $50 price tag is absurd. The book is one of those things you'd expect to pick up for free at a scientific meeting or conference. If you're considering purchasing "Essentials" I'd suggest that you wait until you find a gratis copy, or perhaps a $10 copy from a reseller.
