| Maurice Sendak's Really Rosie Starring the Nutshell Kids | ||
![]() | "The next best thing short of "Really Rosie" coming out on DVD" | 2008-01-30 |
| Given that Really Rosie is still not out on DVD yet, this will serve as a excellent "stand in" product for it. You get the story behind it, and sheet music for seven of the eleven songs and a few stills from the special. Of course, you can now get all four of the "Nutshell Library" songs on the "Where The Wild Things Are" DVD, but I'm still waiting for the day that Really Rosie comes out on DVD. And, BTW, Youtube have taken down the three parts to the Really Rosie special, citing a copyright claim from Weston Woods. | ||

| This is one of the finest CD singles I have ever brought. I like all 6 mixes but my favorite by far is the "Photon Project Mix". I have seen in some reviews some confusion about the mixes, so on my copy, I will give you the track names and times. Beautiful Things [By Andain] Gabriel & Dresden (Radio Mix) 4:10 Gabriel & Dresden (Unplugged Mix) 10:47 Photon Project Mix 9:30 Josh Gabriel Mix 8:09 Cor Fijneman Mix 8:21 Photon Project Dub 7:14 As one can see, the "Photon Project Mix" is not a radio edit, but a full length mix after all! | ||

| I saw just one of the thirteen episodes when it aired on TV in Australia in 1982 (From 6/2/1982 to 8/25/1982) when it was on Wednesday night at 10:10pm as I was twelve at the time and my parents sent me to bed at 8:30pm. I almost gave up on the series until a freak event allowed me to view Episode 13 in hopistal (I ran across a six lane highway and got hit by a car, so I watched Episode 13 in my bed while my leg was in a plaster in hopistal.) I was so amazed and awed by that one episode that I wanted to see the 12 episodes I missed. I had to wait until December 2003 to order the DVD box set. I have now seen the entire box set twice it is worth every cent. Even after 20+ years it is still revelant and important viewing, especially about the human race reaching for a golden future of self destructing in madness. And I loaned the box set to my younger brother (about 2 years younger than me!) and he loves it too! | ||
| The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition) | ||

| I recieved my copy of the LOTR extended DVD trilogy box set today. Why? As I live in Australia, it came out on December 10, 2004 and I pre-ordered it from a local online retailer back on December 1, 2004. So I got in first. I abosutely love this box set. It is just about the best thing I've ever seen and the extra features (when compared to the standard box set) make it worth every cent. The highlight in my opinion is the many commentaries that come with the DVD's. They are very useful in explaning why they did what they did and explain the differences from the books very well. Almost all the differences were made to make it better for the screen and more appealing to mass audiences while staying true to the spirit of the classic books. The extra (bonus stuff) is very good as well. | ||

| I first watched the movie on TV way back in May 1979 when I was 9 years old. I fell in love with it. Even after all this time, it is still the very best animated movie I've ever seen (and I've seen alot of them since!) and one of the best movies I've seen in my whole life. I love it because it does not go the "Disney" path, as mots modern animated movies go now. One thing I love it is that there's only got one song in it, and unlike Disney movies, the characters don't burst into song every 5 minutes, so making it a marvellous ride from start to finish. When the one song does appear, it appears at the right time and is used in the right scene for the abosutely maximum effect. And animators are not afraid to make animated movies darker and more violent as well, so telling a richer and more relastic view of the world around us. I wish more animated movies did this. And one last thing, "Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel is one of my all time favorite songs. It is just so sappy and dark. Particually in the spot where it's used. It was only in 2004 that I found a song more sappy and dark than this. And that song came only by pure luck! It's a pity that not many young people today see this stuff now. If they did they might get to see that there's a whole world of animated movies beyond the usual dumb-downed Disney stuff. | ||

| I gave this DVD 5 stars. Why? On the Australian (Region 4) version of the ROTK DVD (The "Theatrical" version), it comes as a free bonus product on the 2nd (and bonus DVD). So, on my copy it cost me nothing! You can't complain when this DVD won't cost you a cent. At no cost at all, you can forgive the flaws and just enjoy it for what it is. It is actually a resonable view on its own when you pay nothing to watch it! | ||

| A word of warning is due. I don't own this CD yet, but I may buy it if the price comes down (any good and worthy CD that is cheap enough will always be worth buying!) or when the missing two tracks are inserted into it. I've heard a few of the 15 tracks (from various sources) and they are quite good, but I would really like to see the two tracks to make it even better. However, there is a partial answer to the problem of Sarah Bolger's missing track. If you goto www.colby.edu/personal/s/smak you can download the "DVD" version of her rendition of "Desperado" on mp3. It goes for 2:10 and is copied off the DVD but is encoded at 192kbps and at 44kHz. It is a 3.1MB download. It is a pity in day and age that people have to do this. Record companies complain of illegal downloading of music but if they don't give the people what they want, I can understand why people want to do it! I'm lucky. I only got interested in the movie after doing extensive internet research into the "Innocence & Despair" CD and finding a strong association in many articles. So, I've never had the problem of missing Sarah Bolger's fine singing effort! And, if you miss the Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe In Magic?", simply buy the "Parent Trap" soundtrack. (The movie that stars Lindsay Lohan!) I now own this CD. I brought in on March 21, 2006 for a very cheap price at a retail store (it was 66% off normal price!) and it is quite good for what I paid for it. It still needs the missing two tracks to make really, really good. | ||
| Star Wars Trilogy (Widescreen Edition) | ||
![]() | "Star Wars DVD Boxed Set" | 2004-11-12 |
| I have been a huge fan of the Star Wars movies since 1980 when I collected the ESB trading cards when ESB came out. I have also watched the two prequels on DVD as well. I have longed for the original three movies to come out on DVD. So they finally did. I brought my copy of it from a retail (not amazon.com) store on its first day relase. I last watched ANH, ESB and ROTJ on cable TV back in May 2001. I did notice the additional scenes and re-edits since I last watched them, but they did not reduce the joy of watching them one bit at all! I know some do not like the additional scenes and re-edits, and I can understand that, but remember almost all of the movie run time (about 387 minutes) is still from the originals. So you are still getting (IMHO) the feel and spirit of the movies as they were originally made. And thank George Lucas for at least offering us this box set. Who knows, he may finally relase the 1997 versions or the 1977-1983 versions some day, so be patient! | ||

![]() | "My opinion on the movie" | 2004-11-11 |
| As soon as I had watched the LOTR trilogy (through the box set), I've always wanted to see a movie about its prequel really badly. Because Peter Jackson has not made "The Hobbit" yet, I had to buy this 1970's animated version instead. On most parts, it is very good except for the singing and the songs which I did not like much. I hope when Peter Jackson makes his version (if he does at all!) that the songs and singing dissappear and we get a proper movie version. I have read some of the other reviews of this movie. Some complain of a poor DVD transfer and badly transfered soundtrack and music. However my copy had no such problems at all, even though I had to buy a multi-zone (world-wide) DVD player just to play the movie as I live in Australia! I will use my newly aquired multi-zone DVD player to buy many more DVD's from amazon.com, but "The Hobbit" will be the only animated LOTR movie I will buy. I will agree with most people as the LOTR movies done by Peter Jackson is far better than the animated ones! | ||

| I have owned the CD and book since January 2004 and after alot of thought, I brought the DVD. I loved it alot. Some of the songs and scenes are not on the CD or book, which is great. A thing I would like to say. I had no problems playing the DVD on my Australian PS2 games and DVD player connected to a common medium sized TV one can get here. | ||
