| I tried to install this product twice on a Celeron 1.3GHz system with a VIA 686B chipset, running both Win98SE and WinXP Pro. The first time, I thought I had bought a defective drive, which happens rarely. Using the most current version of the Roxio Easy-CD software that came with the drive, the drive would lock up the IDE bus whenever I attempted to write to a CD-RW. When this happened again after replacing it with a 2nd drive, I suspected something else was amiss. After some investigation, I tried turning off the DMA setting for the drive, and lo and behold, it worked! Performance was less than spectacular, but it would do. The next day, I attempted to copy some tracks off of an audio CD, and when trying to read the tracks while running Win98SE, the system would lock up. On a hunch, I turned DMA back on, and it could now read the audio tracks. I'm told this may be a problem only with VIA chipsets, but I haven't had this problem with other models, therefore I can't recommend it
