Mae - The EverglowMae - The Everglow
Rated 5 Stars"well worth it" 2009-09-22
I bought their previous efforts awhile ago Destination Beautiful and Destination: B-Sides. It took a minute for both of those to sink in. But with a new release coming i felt that i needed to get more immersed in Mae and where they are coming from in there music. So i decided to buy The Everglow about a week or so ago.

It didn't take long for me to see how much they continue to grow as musicians/lyricists and just in their everyday lives and how it's incorporated into this record. Each song on this one is a continuing chapter to the previous one. You already know that they bring great emotion to each song that they sing and this is know different. With solid vocals and a all around excellent performance. The Everglow is another notch in the belt of a talented and still grow band. I look forward to the rest of the ride and plan on being their with Mae regardless of who leaves or comes in the band.

Mae will always be one of my favorite bands out there, represent and give this one a listen. It's not just for fans of Mae, but anyone that's looking for something a little different. But still enjoyable to listen and relax to. This one is it.

Rated 5 Stars"Off the chain..." 2009-07-08
This is the cd that first got me interested in music, dancing and MJ in general. "Rock With You" was the song and upon one listen to this song. I knew that i was going to enjoy not only this cd but all of his work in the future. "Burn This Disco Out", "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough", "It's The Falling In Love" and pretty much every other song on "Off The Wall". Make this an excellent cd for not only MJ fans but music fans in general. He always has and will continue to be the King of Pop. Excellent purchase and addition to music collections of just about anyone.

RIP...MJ you will be missed.

Michael Jackson - Bad [Remaster]Michael Jackson - Bad [Remaster]
Rated 5 Stars"The title says it all" 2009-07-08
Almost everything about this cd is what makes people love MJ's music. He's able to bring out things and feelings that others never could. He's much more personal on this record as he wrote 9 of the 11 original tracks. From "Bad" to "The Way You Make Me Feel" to "Speed Demon" and "Liberian Girl". "Bad" is a varied yet through and potent mix of music that will have you dancing along one minute and then being reflective in the next.

But it's all done very well and just goes to show that no matter how long ago this record was made. It more than stands up to the test of time and out does many of its peerd. "Bad" is anything but that...looking for another MJ record to add to your collection. Well look no further than "Bad" as just about every song on it. Is worthy of several listens and downloads to whatever device you listen to music with. 11 songs of great work and 3 additional songs - "Streetwalker" "I Can't Stop Loving You" (Spanish) and "Fly Away".

Gone but never forgotten. You'll always be in our hearts, MJ.

Royal AssassinRoyal Assassin
Rated 4 Stars"solid followup" 2009-06-25
if but a bit flawed with the main character in particular, Fitz or Fitzchivalry as he's called by a lot of folks throughout the story. He's the illegitimate son of the late king Chivalry. Which means he has a chance at becoming the next king in waiting. But instead he's in the employ of the king-Shrewd. Of course killing is a part of that along with getting critical info and other missions. All of this while he's trying to win the heart of Molly. Whom he befriended when a young child living with Burrich.

She likes and he likes her but then she doesn't because of what he does and i'm sure other reasons. But that's not really explained aside from the she doesn't want to be with him anymore. There's other things going on as well with King in Waiting, Verity. His evil and deceitful brother, Regal. Whom hates Fitz or as he calls him the bastard and lets him know at every turn.

Without giving away the whole storyline, the characters i've listed and others play a big part in this. As their's deceit, betrayal, death, power struggles and all that. It makes for a good second book in the series. I would've liked to see Fitz be a bit more aggressive and forthright with things. Instead of the inner turmoil and angst. It tends to wear thin by the time this book is over.

I enjoyed it for the most part even though i preferred the first book myself. Royal Assassin is still a very solid read though.

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original AdventuresLego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Rated 5 Stars"who knew?" 2009-04-17
You could have so much fun playing Indiana Jones and as a bunch of lego blocks no less. You are able as you progress through the game to pick up and play as other characters in Free Play mode. Which is basically you running through the level again. But having access to characters that you've unlocked throughout the game. It's at least 60 characters that you can unlock and while some are the same character with different customes. It is still very cool to have that option if you so choose.

The game itself is very fun and can be played by just about any age group. I picked it up and finished it a few days later. While the overall length of the game leaves a little bit to be desired. It doesn't detract at all from the game as a whole. The graphics are pretty solid for a DS game and didn't encounter any bugs(others may have) or other issues while playing. It is something that anyone looking for a fun and engaging game to play should pick up.

Plus the price at 19.99 is rare in this day and age of video game prices. Lego Indiana Jones warrants an inclusion into your gaming library and once you buy the game. You'll really enjoy it.

The Orphanage [Blu-ray]The Orphanage [Blu-ray]
Rated 4 Stars"Solid movie" 2009-03-31
I didnt mind too much that the movie was in Spanish. I just switched the subtitles on to English. Which i do frequently when watching anime and other things. While the movie itself was as frightening as I thought it would be. The Oprhanage works because it leaves you thinking that something scary is coming around the bend or right there behind you. It works due to the acting of the main lead character played by Belen Rueda and the children that are running rampant all over the house.

It revolves around the house that she used to live in as an orphan herself. Her husband and child move into the house and things start off innocently enough minus a visit from a creepy old lady that might be alive or not. Until they are having a hosting party and her son disappears madness ensues and things start getting crazy. Not a violent, horror type movie. Its more of a thriller with mixes of horror thrown in as well.

The end result a solid movie that really enjoyed...even the ending worked for me as well.

Speed Racer [Blu-ray]Speed Racer [Blu-ray]
Rated 5 Stars"loved it" 2008-11-13
From the opening frame until the very last scene. Speed Racer kept me thrilled, excited and loving every minute of it. From the car crashes and different racers to the characters that play their roles very well including Speed, Trixie, Pops, his mom and Racer X. I loved the detail on the cars and the different weapons that each of them had.

Speed was motivated because of his brothers death. Whether or not that was his only focus. I don't know but i do know that he used that all of that anger, hate and everything to make himself and his family that much better. I loved the villians in the movie and a couple that you might not see as villians because of their ultimate aims. But when i was done watching the movie. I felt that everyone involved did a good job of faithfully recreating that same feel that I got. The first time i watched a Speed Racer cartoon show and yes the effects in the movie can be a little bothersome sometimes and the camera occasionally as well. The story is also quality as many things are explained and fleshed out and each character has a chance to shine throughout the whole movie.

Overall though i am glad that i bought the DVD and give it all the respect due (5 stars).

Last Hurrah for ChivalryLast Hurrah for Chivalry
Rated 5 Stars"one fine flick" 2008-10-25
As this classic opens, we find a couple of characters in vastly different positions. With one being a drunk, assasin for hire that has no morals at all. Add in a little bit of romance that is rebuffed repeatedly by the would be assassin and the woman who longs for his affection. Then we have another that's more into doing his own thing but is very well known for his martial arts skills. There's a 3rd party that plays pretty prominently in this film as well. It seems that his intentions are good when he tries to hire the skilled martial arts fighter. Its over revenge for his family that were killed.

Its what we are led to believe at least. I won't give out what it's really over. But i must say that i didnt see that one coming at all. For a film of this age, it transfers well as things are bright and lively. The colors and backgrounds are well done and of course the fighting is very well done. 2 on 1, 1 on 1, several on 1. Its pretty much all covered in this flick that should be added to everyone's DVD collection as soon as possible. Your able to watch this in Cantonese or English. I prefer the original language and reading the subtitles. It has more of an effect for me.

"Last Hurrah for Chivalry" is one film that holds your attention throughout.

Ice Cube - The PredatorIce Cube - The Predator
Rated 5 Stars"one of his best" 2008-06-20
Ice Cube drops "The Predator" on everyone and with the hit songs "It Was A Good Day", "Check Yo Self". He raps about all that's going in that era, crooked cops, politics and so much more. He's able to do it with a swagger and confidence that most can't even duplicate. Along with "Death Certificate" and "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" this one is right up there with some of the greatest albums put out in the era. Also of note are remixes for "Check Yo Self" and "It Was A Good Day".

The videos make the songs even better especially with It Was A Good Day and the ending that still has folks talking about and checking this one out. It only served to put that song in people's minds. Also songs like "Don't Trust Em" sampling BBD's "Poison" (about females and the game that they can get you with) and "I'm a Wetcha" being about taking it to some unsuspecting individual. "Gangsta Fairytale" which is rap take on the different childhood stories that we are used to like Little Miss Muffet, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and the seven dwares, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, 3 Little Pigs and many others. It's an interesting song and how its incorporated into the song (and day to day life) make it that much better.

An excellent effort by Cube and one that people are still feeling and enjoying all these years later.

Rated 5 Stars"can't miss" 2008-06-17
with King Boxer and all the action and fighting that goes on throughout this movie. You won't want to miss a single moment of it and make sure if you have anyone that's kinda squeamish around violence and blood. They might want to skip this especially with a couple senses one involving someone losing a body part. I'll leave it at that. But i love the "Iron Fist" techinique that the hero learns in the movie and the cool effect/music whenever he activates it. It's lethal and leaves his misguided foes in a heap.

Great movie for its time and now as well. If your a fan of Bruce Lee movies or kungfu, karate then you need to check out King Boxer, it won't disappoint.

Radiohead - Ok ComputerRadiohead - Ok Computer
Rated 5 Stars"much better than OK" 2008-06-14
i love this one from Radiohead. Its been awhile since this was released but i've only got into Radiohead after i purchased their latest "In Rainbows" and decided to check this out. It's everything that's in their current release and then some. It goes without saying that its one of the few cds that i can listen to from beginning to end without skipping over a song or losing interest in the cd midway through.

They have a way of bringing out the music without all the unnecessary distractions and things that doom other cds while in production. It's subtle yet forceful and energy filled as well. I could go on and on about "OK Computer" but most of it has already been said by other folks many times over. So i'll just end this by saying that Radiohead has a new fan in me..all because of this cd.

Queen Latifah - The Dana Owens AlbumQueen Latifah - The Dana Owens Album
Rated 5 Stars"well done" 2008-06-14
the Queen suprises a lot of folks with this cd composed of all singing. With a jazzy, R&B feel to it. It takes you on a trip and doesnt bring you back until the last song is over with. Its very soothing, comforting and her voice is strong when needed and subtle yet passionate on other tracks. But throughout the Dana Owens album there is one thing for sure that not only can she rap. But she can also sing as well, it doesnt feel like a gimmick or something forced. Its a natural progression and i love it. I do hope that she does another rap album in the future, but for now. I'm very happy with this effort.

Nas - StillmaticNas - Stillmatic
Rated 5 Stars"still ripping em up" 2008-06-07
whether or not others feel this cd. Stillmatic is one hell of a release by Nas as he returns to form this time around slaying them on a variey of subjects throughout the cd. Whether its a stab back at Jay-Z on the heated "Ether" or Prodigy or Cormega on "Destroy and Rebuild" he's letting folks know that Nas is one of the best MCs out there without a doubt.

He also does something i don't believe i've heard on a song period with "Rewind" where he raps in reverse throughout the track and turns this into one of these best songs on the cd even though its just over a couple minutes. It makes you want the song to last that much longer. Also of note are tracks like "My Country" with Nas making a political stand on issues of war and taking care of our country first vice being all in everyone else's problems with all the things going on at home. I couldnt agree with him more. "What Goes Around" is basically about karma all the bad/negative things that you do to others will come back on you in spades as he weaves this story for the listeners like a pro.

"Got Yourself A Gun" is another burner from Nas that lets anyone thinking he'd fallen off know that there's no chance of that happening. "Rule" feat. Amerie is also another track worthy of several listens as he raps over this with Amerie providing excellent vocals along with it. "2nd Childhood" is about a person that despite all the years of life. They've still yet to reach that phase of being out on their own and doing their own thing. Still staying at home and having others carry them basically just like a child.

"Stillmatic" has to be one of the hottest rap albums not only of that year released. But even now i don't see how folks are dismissing this excellent cd when there is so much garbage out there that continues to get played. "Stillmatic" will still be around and folks will still be nodding their heads to it and feeling just what Nas is saying.

Big ups!!

Scrubs: The Complete Third SeasonScrubs: The Complete Third Season
Rated 5 Stars"it gets even better" 2008-06-05
with the 3rd season of Scrubs we find our characters a bit more seasoned, yet just as vulnerable as they were. When they first started out.

But the writers/producers and everyone involved in this show including guest stars like Tara Reid, Michael J. Fox, Scott Foley to name a few add a little bit of craziness in addition to what's already going on around the show making it. Something that really needs to be watched to see exactly what i mean. The show is seriously funny and even when a deep, serious moment comes up. You can find JD pondering away in one of his usually freaky and often times weird daydreams.

Some shows aren't able to keep it up for 3 years and keep things fresh but Scrubs does throughout and is worthy of anyone's attention that loves to laugh and have fun watching TV.

Scrubs:Season TwoScrubs:Season Two
Rated 5 Stars"2nd time" 2008-06-02
is even better than the first season if you can believe that. With guest stars Heather Locklear and Ryan Reynolds coming into play on Scrubs for awhile. It only made the show with the off beat, quirky and downright funny personnel of the Sacred Heart hospital that much more likable even Dr. Cox as he has a new reason to change his tune (just a little) with a baby boy that gets him and his ex-wife to still throw verbal snaps at each with ease. But show some more love as well.

JD is still weird, nerdy and downright lame as can be. But he's more interesting in his character and growing with confidence as a doctor. Along with his surgeon best friend Turk who takes his relationship up a notch with Carla, the ever spirited and fiesty nurse that has no prob letting folks know when they are having relationship woes among other things.

It's just a great show to sit back and watch at anytime and you'll know what it is to watch a great show that knows how to make it fun to watch TV and just have a good time in general.

Dwele - SubjectDwele - Subject
Rated 5 Stars"the subject" 2008-05-28
the debut from Dwele starts off on a pretty good note. By track 3 though is where it really begins to kick in and things are taken up a notch.

Subject had to be one of the cds in 2003 for folks to watch and listen for. It covers various topics in relationships and love and is done in a way. You can't help but fall for. It gets a bit rocky towars the end track 13 (which is pretty much an interlude). But concludes nicely and leaves things open for what will probably be an even better sophomore effort.

Scrubs - Season OneScrubs - Season One
Rated 5 Stars"Opening with many laughs" 2008-05-16
and keeps going throughout the whole season with 24 episodes and various special features-deleted scenes, bloopers, favorite moments and what not. All the actors in this first season of Scrubs are on their A games as if they've been working together for years. You can feel the chemistry already between the different actors/actresses throughout. With many laughs, good times and few bad ones for each. They still come through this first season a bit stronger and better off then when they started.

It goes without saying that the first season of Scrubs is a complete smash hit and with so many laughs throughout it. You will hard pressed to not laugh at less once an episode if not more with added guest stars like John Ritter (playing JD's father) and others. Great start off point to get acquainted with an well put together and well writter series in Scrubs.

Rated 5 Stars"didn't even know" 2008-05-07
that Styles of Beyond had released a couple of CDs prior to hearing them on Mike Shinoda's Fort Minor side project which was hot. The tracks on 2000 Fold are all solid with a few that have that extra lyrical snap that you love hearing in hip hop. Throughout this release SOB rap on a variety of subjects but no matter what the song maybe. They bring it with the lyrical wordplay each and everytime. I believe this is a release that needs to be heard by anyone interested in underground rap/hip hop or just someone that wants something that veers off the beaten course that a good portion of rappers nowadays seem to follow.

Japanimation ,Kotani Kinya ,Sakanoue Yosuke - Gravitation: TV TracksJapanimation ,Kotani Kinya ,Sakanoue Yosuke - Gravitation: TV Tracks
Rated 5 Stars"just as good" 2008-05-05
as the other Gravitation cd that i bought awhile ago. With 19 tracks to choose from it isnt hard to see that this one has much to offer as well. Some of favs being:

track 8: Glaring Dream
tracks 17, 18, 19: Zoom Mix, The Last Element Mix
track 7: Glaring Dream (A Light in the Black Mix)
track 6: Glaring Dream (Secret Dream Air Mix)

I could pretty much list the whole cd. But i'll just say that if you are into this series at all. You need to get either of the Soundtracks to the accompanying anime series. You'll like it from the get go no bones about it.

Crime StoryCrime Story
Rated 5 Stars"very nicely done" 2008-05-02
An excellent well put together package. The special collector's edition of Jackie Chan's classic 1993 Crime Story. With added special features including Deleted Scenes (3), Feature Commentary with Director Kirk Wong and Hong Kong Cinema Expert Bey Logan, A Journey to the Underworld: An Exclusive Interview with Director Kirk Wong, From The Page to the Silver Screen: An Interview with Writer Teddy Chen and Trailer Gallery.

If you already have the first edition of this great movie. I would still invest the collectors edition as it brings more action, suspense and intrigue. Jackie Chan plays a cop that is witness to a kidnapping of a prominient businessman and his wife. The wife is forced into giving the kidnappers almost 60 million dollars. As the movie progresses Jackie runs into all kinds of people out to kill him for what he knows and a secret or two buried right in his own office. The movie is fast paced and full of classic Jackie battles. Crime Story won't be one of those movies that disappoint either as it still holds up despite all the time that has passed.

DVD concert of them coming back to Orlando FL. With a some high energy dance filled numbers that they do and a solo song for each of the members working the crowd and having a good time in general. They also take a turn as the actual band playing different instruments while singing one of their songs.

Good quality and a nice addition to your music DVD collection and even more so if your a BSB fan. It's worthy of a purchase either new or used.

Hitman [Blu-ray]Hitman [Blu-ray]
Rated 4 Stars"it hits with me" 2008-04-19
Hitman was an enjoyable movie with references throughout towards to the video game series on which it is based on. They picked a good one (Timothy Olyphant-Scream 2, Live Free or Die Hard) to play the title character and he does so with style but also a fierceness as well. He dispatches any and all that come his way or end up and his already dead marks. From hand to hand combat, guns, sword fights with others like him from the Organization that trained, fed, clothed and made them into the powerful yet deadly freelance agents they are.

It is touched on his background with the organization but hope it might be expanded on in a future movie. Entertaining, action packed and loaded with violence add a little bit of storyline and you have a fun and far more entertaining movie than i thought it could be. Usually i'm not too hyped over video games made into movies, but Hitman isn't like that at all.

Very enjoyable.

Smallville - The Complete Sixth SeasonSmallville - The Complete Sixth Season
Rated 5 Stars"and Justice for all" 2008-04-13
What a great start to Season Six with the opening episode that continues with the escape of many criminals from the Phantom Zone. They are scattered all over the earth and start their spree of killing and destruction. He also has a battle with Zod (who's using Lex's body) to fight Clark and later in the season he has another epic battle with a seriously powerful escapee in Titan. As he decimates all others that came before him. In between that you have the Lana/Lex thing going with more drama than a daytime soap opera and Chloe gets her a man in Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) who also works at the Daily Planet along with her.

You also have Lois who has off and on relationship with Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) who also has a few secrets of his own. Being the Green Arrow fighting crime and going up against Lex. He's done so much dirt in this season that you fill up the Grand Canyon and still have room for more. Also a romance (albeit forced) in Lois and Clark when she gets this special lipstick that makes her fall in love with the first guy she sees. Of course it's gotta be Clark and madness, excitement and drama ensue as they interrupt Lana/Lex's engagement party and drop a secret or two on the other folks who have no idea that Lana is pregnant(there's another story line covering that as well). Also Clark gets a surprise visit from one Martian Manhunter.

There are loads of excellent episodes rounding out Season 6 of Smallville and if Season 7 is anything like the ending to this one. Then we are in for one excellent ride with all the characters and a couple situations that will hopely get resolved early on. Season 6 includes 22 episodes and loads of featurettes on every disc along with deleted scenes from various episodes.

A solid investment and excellent viewing option. Smallville just keeps on getting better with each new season!!

Hairspray [Blu-ray]Hairspray [Blu-ray]
Rated 5 Stars"Loved it lots" 2008-04-12
Everything about the movie made me want to get up and dance and sing with the people in this film. It feels like everyone on the movie was having a great time and brought their "A" game to this one and it really shows throughout. I'm not normally into this style of movie but i had no problem loving this one from beginning to end. While the movie runs at about 2 hours you won't really notice. I was so engrossed in this that i might just break down and get the soundtrack to it as well.

Also this edition has a 2nd disc with LOADS of features on everything about the movie process from the music to hair, makeup, dancing and just coming up with ideas to make this not a complete copy of the musical or the orignal Hairspray (Ricki Lake, Divine, Ruth Brown and others starred in that one). Its a movie that anyone and everyone in the family can watch nothing to worry about hiding the kids from except maybe the occasional kiss between different characters.

While everyone has fun in this one there's a deeper issue going on in this one and that's the racial prejudice that were evident during that time. With the Corny Collins show (hosted by James Marsden who can sing). Its probably better to just check it out if you haven't already seen the original it was and still is an issue in today's society. I thought it was important to have that in there and keep it true as its something that needed to be touched on even in an overall fun and enjoyable film like this.

Nikki Blonsky, Amanda Bynes, Queen Latifah, John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Michelle Pfeiffer, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, James Marsden, Elijah Kelly (who all get their chance to shine both singing and dancing) round out an excellent and well acted movie and its worth every penny to purchase and partake in this great movie.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - CalifornicationRed Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Rated 5 Stars"a very excellent trip" 2008-04-08
I've been a fan of RHCP for years now. But had only bought one of their albums before now (Stadium Arcadium). So i decided to remedy that and i purchased Californication. I had only heard a couple songs on the cd (Scar Tissue and Californication). Both of which i really enjoyed and with the exception of maybe three songs on this cd. I found Californication to be a great trip into the minds of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If its any indication of how good this one is. I will be back down that road again in the future buying another buy the guys as they all seem to be on a different level on this cd.

Check out tracks like Parallel Universe, Scar Tissue, Other Side, Californication, Easily, Savior, Right on Time and the mind boggling Road Trippin. Californication is a cd that i know will get many plays by me now and in the future, a worthy purchase either used or new. It's very wise to invest in this one as the various reviews say, but don't take my word for it drop a few dollars on this one. It's worth it.

Rated 4 Stars"good not better" 2008-04-08
than their previous effort. It's a sudden change in direction for them, it seems this cd is more low key and eclectic which is okay for some folks. I generally don't mind it but i didnt feel that same connection that i did to previous efforts (Hunting High and Low and their first effort). East of the Sun is by no means a bad cd, it has a few tracks that i did enjoy like:

Early Morning
Waiting for Her
Rolling Thunder
Crying In The Rain

It's enough to give 4 stars for this cd but the group needs some extra oomph in their next effort for me to warrant another cd purchase. Perhaps more listens to this one and i'll like it a tad bit more we'll see. But for now East of the Sun, West of the Moon is a slighly above average purchase for a-ha fans. For those that are new to the group, you might want to try their first cd or Hunting High and Low (which i believe are better).
