| Canon Deluxe 200 Tripod | ||

| I got a new Canon camera, and the old tripod did not work with it, so I ordered the Canon 200
so I could shoot some Halloween pix outside in the dark. I actually paid almost as much for fast shipping as the tripod. It works fine, folks. Not as good as a tripod costing 4 times as much, but I knew that. The complaints that this tripod is a piece of plastic junk are without merit. It's a pretty good little unit. Hard to beat the price. And I will continue to use it. | ||

| This book was first printed in 1975. I have the 9th edition, printed in 1982. The recipe for sausage jambalaya is one of the greatest recipes from any town, any culture that I know of. I have a friend in Florida who flies here to Chicago once a year to eat in the best restaurants in town with us for a week. The jambalaya recipe is, I think, the main reason for her trip. The jambalaya is what's waiting for her when she walks through the door. It's what she eats every morning for breakfast. And lunch, if we don't go out to eat. The whole house smells like heaven for at least two days after you're done cooking it. I would get the book for this recipe alone. Just disregard the instructions, and don't use any salt. | ||

| Muddy Waters - Folk Singer | ||

| This is not a folk album; it's a blues album. And it's one of the best blues albums anybody ever recorded. I have a lot of Muddy Waters' CDs, and this one makes me stop and listen to how great his voice was, how well he could tell a story, how deeply he could hook you. You get that "back porch blues" feeling, like he's there with you on a hot summer night strummin' and singin' with a couple of friends he brought along. This album is a must for any Muddy Waters--or blues--lover. The remastered recording is quite clear and fresh, a great sounding album | ||
| Tony Bennett - Playin' with My Friends: Bennett Sings the Blues | ||
![]() | "Not bad for a guy who's 75 years old" | 2001-12-20 |
| Some years back, Frank Sinatra made one of the worst albums in the history of recorded music. DUETS. The arrangements were mostly old Nelson Riddle charts meant to showcase Sinatra at his best. They also showcased most of the singers on that album at their worst, totally out of their element in those classic old Sinatra songs. I played the CD once and threw it out. Tony Bennett was on that album, and he was one of the few who didn't suck. So when the Tony and Friends album came out, I was expecting more crap. But no. This is a keeper. Tony Bennett is now 75 years old and sounds like a guy 30 years younger. He's once again picked some great (and unusual) songs. And the arrangements give the singers with him a chance to look- er, sound-good, too. Instead of a big studio band, we have the Ralph Sharon Quartet, providing lots of open space for the singers to stretch out. A wonderful, intimate feel, and a good production, nicely recorded, but with no liner notes. What's the problem at Columbia? I've been playing this album nice and loud while typing this review. A couple of people in the office came over and stared at the speakers with their mouths open during "New York State of Mind." "Who is THAT?" they asked. Billy Joel and the certifiably best singer on earth. Both sounding real good. | ||
