| Michael Jackson - Dangerous [Remaster] | ||
![]() | "The last of the 4 greats!" | 2009-10-11 |
| I think MJ did 4 really great albums. Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad & Dangerous. Dangerous is very underrated but it does have it's faults. Still you can jam, sing alone, rock out or whatever to this album. It can make you dance, sing, inspire you or just sadden you.
1 - Jam - I really like this song. It's one of the last MJ songs that builds lyrically as well as the beat. Also one of MJ's songs that repeats the chorus, maybe too much. A great start to Dangerous. 2 - Why You Wanna Trip On Me - This song is a nice jam. Don't know how it would have done as a single. A bit angry and attempting to repeat the success of Leave Me Alone, just not as fun. 3 - In The Closet - One of my favorite MJ songs on the album, but suffers from too much chorus like Jam and a lot of the songs on here. I really like the interplay between "The Woman" and MJ though and that makes this song fun and easy to listen to. 4 - She Drives Me Wild - This is a damn good MJ song that went unreleased. I bet he could have had a nice video to it. Not as successful as The Way You Make Me Feel but the closest thing to it on this album besides In The Closet. 5 - Remember The Time - You can sing to it, dance to it watch MJ move to it in the video or just mellow out to it. I love the song but wish it had more lyrically. I guess if anything the 90's was all about the chorus. I always liked more lyrics and have the chorus be what is built up to or have the chorus support the rest of the song 6 - Can't Let Her Get Away - Usually when I listen to Dangerous I usually skip the hits (heard them a million times) and listen to the less popular or unrealsed songs. This is one of the best of them (along with She Drives Me Wild & Dangerous). 7 - Heal The World - Nice song. Inspirational, can sing or mellow out to it, but you really got to be in the mood for it. Not up there with We Are The World, Man In The Mirror or Earth Song, but still not bad. 8 - Black Or White - What can I say? Most popular song and biggest hit on Dangerous. I can jam to it, sing it, bang my head, watch the video, laugh at it or enjoy MJ's dancing during and after the video. The panther dancing at the end of it is awesome. So what he grabbed his crotch. You know anyone who can dance like that? Didn't this so. 9 - Who Is It - I like this song and the greatest hits video version of it. I love how MJ did the live acapella to this on Opera's interview. Vastly underrated song and one of my favs on this or any MJ album. Even had it as a ringtone on my cell for people I didn't know. Who Is It? 10 - Give In To Me - Damn this song should have been a hit. Loved it as much as Who Is It! Hell even loved it more than Black or White. It was Dirty Diana for the 90's (to me). 11 - Will You Be There - You gotta be there to Free Willy. Really this song grew on me. A great song lyrically and sang to perfection by MJ. This is a song only MJ could do and pull off well. Song and Free Willy version of the video are really good and would listen to or watch anytime. Soothing, sad, emotional and the spoken poem at the end really clicked with MJ's life from then until his passing. Yes, MJ we (your fans) will be there, through thick and thin. Like you were there for us, we will always be there for you, also to support you legacy musically and your humanitarian efforts. We will never forget you! 12 - Keep The Faith - MJ going for the gospel feel ala Man In The Mirror, but his attempt turned out kinda flat. I like it, might listen to it every now and then, but if any one song could be cut from Dangerous, this would be my first choice. 13 - Gone Too Soon - If you enjoyed Usher's version of this and never heard the original you need to buy Dangerous. MJ's version (as always) was the best. Done in memory to Ryan White who died of AIDs, this is such a beautiful tribute. Also a great tribute to MJ himself. Wonder if he had that in mine as well when he did this song. Whatever his intentions. MJ you really were gone too soon........... Dangerous - MJ's best unreleased song of the 90's that I am aware of right now. Would have been a great video. MJ sang it to perfection, you can jam to it, imagine what kinda video MJ would have made for it etc. One of my favorite unreleased MJ songs...........ever. Plus there was a really nice demo version of this song out there (I think on the Ultimate Collection cds, going by memory here). Very different mood for the song, almost a different song like how the demo to PYT was. I loved both versions. Here you get the album version. Great album and a bit of trivia for ya. I read that Dangerous outsold Bad as an album and is MJ's 2nd biggest album ever! If that doesn't tell you anything don't know what will. This is perhaps MJ's most diverse album. A bit of something for everyone.
| Michael Jackson - Invincible * | ||
![]() | "Very underrated!" | 2009-10-11 |
| I was one of the people who loved this album. It wasn't my favorite of MJ's (with Thriller, Bad, Off The Wall & Dangerous that's almost impossible to overcome) but when compared to HIStory & Blood On The Dance Floor HIStory In The Mix (though I loved those new songs not remixed!), I think this one wins pretty easily.
I think Sony wanted this album to bomb. I'm a die-hard MJ fan. Have all his albums/cds/dvds etc and I heard absolutely NO promotion for this album whatsoever! I forget how I even found out about this album's release. I think I was just checking out MJ sites and stumbled across it. This was an album worthy of promoting (more so than HIStory IMO). Now to the songs - 1 - Unbreakable - I love this song. It's the closest thing to Leave Me Alone as far as getting his message across and being a successful/entertaining jam. A perfect song to introduce an album. If it were me, the album would be named Unbreakable and this definately would have been a single. 2 - Heartbreaker - I would have shelved this song. It's more "filler" to me. Not memorable and not up to MJ's standard. Utterly forgetable. 3 - Invincible - I like this song. Not as much as Unbreakable, but it gets the album back on track. It makes me wonder why there are so many critics of Invincible (the album). Sure, it wasn't Thriller. But these are some pretty good songs and I wonder if some of the critics even LISTENED to some of the songs. Granted I admit some of these songs wouldn't even make my cut for an MJ album but so far with Unbreakable and Invincible 2 out of 3 ain't so bad. 4 - Break Of Dawn - Wow. This song is a departure from the first 3 but in a very good way. This song stylistically is so different from anything MJ has done in AGES! It's like a modern "Rock With You". Very cool song and would have been another release. So far 3 out of 4 songs would be on my good-great list. 5 - Heaven Can Wait - OMG. Just like Break Of Dawn, only BETTER! And the words are so haunting given MJ's passing. I really feel he wrote this song for and about his children and maybe a secret love. Really if you never heard this song you are missing out. Same for the 4 out of 5 songs reviewed so far. I'd go as far as saying this song is one of his best post 2000. Besides One More Chance and some unreleased songs on The Ultimate Collection. 6 - You Rock My World - I love this song. It's a jam. Not something to listen to everyday, but when you are in that MJ jam type of mood. I'd rate it above Smooth Criminal because I like the song itself more. The Moonwalker video version of Smooth Criminal was the better video (especially better than that sped up Smooth Criminal video) but You Rock My World is the better song. IMO. Video is awesome too. Back to the dance video and very much like Smooth Criminal in the dancing and mob mentality. Not my fav MJ songs or videos but better than most after Dangerous album. 7 - Butterflies - MJ gets back to the ballads (which I always liked when they were passionately done and about a romantic interest) This song holds up with Break Of Dawn and Heaven Can Wait. If you don't have this album you are missing out (unless if you are less into R&B which this album is more than any MJ album since Off The Wall). This also has the listen to-sing along style MJ made since Rock With You. 8 - Speachless - Another forgetable MJ song. 2 bad apples out of 8 ain't so bad. I can't even remember this song. Usually skip it like I do Heartbreaker. 9 - 2000 Watts - Whoa. Don't know what to say about this song. I have a love-hate thing with it. The beat alone is amazing, MJ's voice is so deep that I probably wouldn't know it's MJ if I heard it out of the blue for the first time. A definate MJ song in that nobody else could pull it off, but definately not material for single release. Maybe if the lyrics were better this song could have been much better. I'm on the fence as to if this song should have been included on this album. It's not the worst song on the album, but not the best. Somewhat like Speed Demon on the bad album (though that was the worst on Bad). You could probably dance or sing along with this song, but too bad it wasn't worked on some more. Could have used better lyrics I think. Might not have made my cut or as a bonus song. 10 - Cry - Not as bad as I originally thought it was. Actually fits in along the lines of Heal The World, Earth Song & the likes. Inspirational MJ, might have been better if released in-between two hit songs. IF, Sony had handled this album right and not ignored it. Wouldn't have been a hit, but would have been inspiring. Wouldn't get cut from my list (for the album) but might not have been released as a single either. 11 - The Lost Children - Um, don't remember this song at all. Might not have even listened to it one time. Wouldn't have made my cut simply out of lack of interest )like Childhood on HIStory). 12 - Whatever Happens - Didn't like this song originally, but it grew on me even moreso than Cry. Cry and Whatever Happens are songs that grew on me like Earth Song did. If you actually listen to these songs MJ's voice is so soothing, This song is a good chill pill if you are stressed. Carlos Santana and MJ were great together on this. I actually love this and Cry after initially skipping these songs. Some songs just grow on you and these did. I'm glad I re-discovered them. 13 - Threatened - It's kind-of a lukewarm Thriller for the 2000+ era. I loved Ghosts on Blood On The Dance Floor HIStory In The Mix, but this doesn't work as well. Nice beats and stuff, but it's not scary as it intends to be. Though I might have still included it. Makes me wonder what the video would have looked like given how good he did with Ghosts. Not a bad song by any means, but a weaker attempt at re-doing Thriller. Ghosts was a better attempt IMO. Again MJ might have been helped with better lyrics. In the end, there's only 3 songs I would rate as either bad or unlistenable. If MJ had shortened his list of songs for this album it might have been better received. Still it would have faltered because of lack of promotion. A much better album than HIStory (not the hits cd but the newer songs like You Are Not Alone etc). I can see being turned off if you only like pop music and not R&B but MJ has always been R&B to me. His roots lie there. The closest album MJ did in comparison would probably be Off The Wall. No real rock song attempted here, but it wouldn't fit if he tried. I guess I should advise listening to samples of the songs before buying, but the majority of the songs are really good. Just bad press/word of mouth and some of the worse songs bring the album down some like an anchor does with a small boat. Still you can always skip those bad songs. The good and great ones are worth the buy!
| The Flash - The Complete Series | ||
![]() | "Good, not great." | 2009-08-26 |
| I always liked the character of Flash. With the CGI effects and seriousness in comic book TV and movies, Flash could be a spin-off of Smallville. That's how good the character is.
Now back to this review, I liked this show. Yet, I can see why it failed. Partly the war in Iraq and partly the corny Batman-ish feel of the show was it's downfall. The blame is not so much with the actors as with the scripts, the lack of seriousness by those in charge of the show. Even in failed TV shows these days that have a comic-book connection or along the lines of comic books (Terminator Sarah Chronicles and Knight Rider) even with their failed attempts they tried to take the subject seriously. In 1991 comic books were much less respected. The best we had was the first two Superman films (way back in 79 & 80-something) and Tim Burton's dark take on Batman. That's it. Most of the rest of comic book attempts were silly, often stupid shows that was more comedy (or attempts at it) than comic-book. Now I must state I really liked John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen/Flash. Yes, a lot of times they gave him junk to work with, but with the right scripts he did well, like in the Pilot and when he went into the future and saw what became of his city and friends without him. Those moments stood out for me. Amanda Pays was good as Tina, but relegated to the annoying female sidekick (remember this was before Lois & Clark where Lois was more assertive). These were still the days when the woman had to be rescued almost every episode. One of the hurtful things with Flash is, (forgive me Flash fans), I was never crazy about his rogue-gallery (villains). Yes, Mirror Master, Reverse Flash and a couple others were interesting, but he never had a Joker-type to be his ultimate enemy. Someone to the degree that they could oppose other DC heroes like Lex Luthor or some of Batman & Superman's villains. To make things worse, this show did not take the villians seriously or much else for that matter. When the show did take things more seriously it showed and was much better. This TV show was too goofy to last, but it had promise. If they could have brought the main actors and sets and put it in today's CGI and with the seriousness of todays comic book TV or movie, it could have lasted. If you saw the show and want to get it, go ahead. I waited til the price dropped to a little less than $20. If you are not sure about buying I'd rent it instead. I can't recommend buying this to just anyone, but just for those who are die-hard Flash fans or fans of the show who barely remember this. In it's day it was good wholesome fun. Just not on the level of Smallville or Heroes. Not close, but I liked it anyway.
| Hostel - Part II [Blu-ray] | ||
![]() | "A True Horror Flick!" | 2009-07-09 |
| I'm tired of the horror movies that have to insert comedy (not in all cases though Scream made Horror/Comedy work) into the film. Hostel II does pretty much what the original did, this time with women being the victims. I've seen the film plenty of times (thanks to Netflix), but I just recieved the DVD today so the extras will be reviewed in a future edit. This is mainly about the film itself. If you like to watch horror movies that make you jump, have some gore (I'm not a big fan of gore but Eli Roth & Tarrentino use gore in a different way than some, that comes off better than most gory movies). I guess when the movie itself is good enough you can look past the gore. Again Roth won me over with this sequel. There is just something different about Hostel II that even paired with the original is different from a lot of horror movies in recent years, with the possible exception of the SAW series. Even then there are major differences. In the SAW movies you had one man who was psycho and he found others to do his work to test bad people and most of them failed the tests, mazes etc. In Hostel II you have the same place basically, but the motivation is something more realistic. I wouldn't be surprised if such a place existed in a cruel world like ours. If you want to sit down with a spouse, date or even alone this is a good film to spook you. If you're a critic of horror movies (& gore in particular) this might not be for you. If you are the type to simply give a movie a chance and you love horror movies check this one out. The women in this movie are very attractive, for the most part likeable. Just like the characters in the original, you end up liking them. If you like the original Hostel then you will most likely enjoy this one. I did and like I said, I am not a big fan of gore, but this won me over like the original did. | ||
| Friday the 13th Part 3 | ||
![]() | "3-D Delux Edition" | 2009-07-03 |
| This is for the Delux 3-D version. I have the original DVD release so I'm writing for those who have the original AND those who don't. Also for those who never saw the movie. First off, the 3D is killer! I've heard some complain about it and saying 3-D doesn't work on DVD. Maybe I read those complaints on the "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" DVD, but still, my dvd player is old and the 3-d is so good that even on regular dvds things stand out. The 3-D works well, if it doesn't then it is your dvd player. The images are crisp and clear and much better than the original dvd release. As with The Final Chapter, the picture quality alone is worth double dipping if you already have the original dvd. Also you have the option to view the movie in 2-D (regular) or 3-D. You get two 3-D glasses with Friday The 13th on them. Not much in the way of extras here, but it does have the theatrical trailer. For me, this is one of the better Friday The 13th's (my 2nd favorite to part 4 "The Final Chapter"). It's the one where Jason first gets the hockey mask. It's also one of the spookier films in the series. At times the movie is silly with some of the 3-D stuff and a little dated (nothing beats 80's gangs for sillyness). This was back when Jason was a bit more inventive with his killings. The film also follows one of the better aspect of late 70's and early 80's horror flicks in that the people are isolated (like Halloween, Halloween 2, The Thing etc). Basically they are at a house & barn. No real running through woods type stuff here. There are plenty of spooky moments. I rate this my 2nd fav Friday The 13th (including the remake & Freddy vs Jason which are 3rd and 4th in Friday movies for me.)If you like movies that scare this one is for you. If you already have the older dvd release and don't even care about the 3-D you would like this DVD because of how good this DVD restores the movie. At a good price with 3-D & 2-D this dvd is a must-buy for hardcore fans, fans of horror in general and a good fun scarefest! | ||

![]() | "The best Starscream figure yet!" | 2008-12-12 |
| Yes, like some of the annoying Alternators the pieces tend to fall off but really they are minor pieces and not hands/arms/legs etc. I wish this figure had launchable rockets like the original Starscream G1 figure but other than that this figure rules! Robot or jet mode this IS Starscream (unlike Michael Bay's movie version). This is a collectable, posable figure and a must-have for G1 fans who like collecting figures that do the G1 line justice. | ||
| I Know My First Name Is Steven | ||
![]() | "Sad tragic story" | 2008-12-12 |
| I grew up seeing the tv mini-series and wanted to see how true to the story it was. From what I can see it was the same story as the mini-series with only minor changes with stuff that TV couldn't show back then. It also delves somewhat into his brother becoming a serial-killer and Steve's death. I wouldn't call this book entertaining because the subject matter is so real and grim, but it is fascinating and reminds us how fragile life is and that horrible things like Steve's kidnapping happens everyday, almost everywhere. If anything, this should be educational to parents on what to tell their kids about dealing with strangers and not falling for tricks by adults they do and do not know. Back in the 70's parents didn't have as many examples as we do now to protect kids from strangers. I really feel for this family first having to deal with Steve's 7 year kidnapping then his death to his brother growing up to being a Yosemite killer. How tragic and unusual is it to have all this happen in one immediate family? Anyway the book is well-written and hard to put down though it does make you sick at times. I think the most gripping thing about it is how Steve survived his kidnapping and abuse to still be a decent person (as much as he could). The fact that he mostly escaped to save another kidnap victim rather than himself is what makes me think of Steven Stayner as a hero. I highly suggest this book just because it is such a fascinating and informative book. It really makes you wake up and realize there is danger all around us and we have to be aware and try to protect ourselves and our loved ones as much as we can. | ||
| Broken Harts: The Life and Death of Owen Hart | ||
![]() | "A decent read" | 2007-03-09 |
| Not really up to a lot of other wrestling books. This is my first and only book that is written by a wrestler's wife. The best parts involved Owen Hart, his personal life, his wrestling life and wrestling in general. Unfortunately, Martha put me off a little by being anti-wrestling. I mean I completely understand and agree with her anti-WWE/Vince in light of what happened to Owen and the resulting loss of her husband and her kids' father. What I don't agree with is her looking down on wrestlers as "freaks" as she called them several times and uneducated. If she had done her research more she would have found that there are lots of educated wrestlers who wrestle because that's what they love to do. Also there are some glaring mistakes. One mistake was her statement that Andre The Giant died in the 1980's. He died of a heart attack in 1993. Also, I disagree that wrestling was just a job to Owen and that he didn't like it. I agree he might have felt differently about wrestling as it changed into Jerry Springer-like tv, but actual wrestling and in-ring work it was obvious Owen was passionate about it. He might not have loved wrestling as much as his wife or kids, which is normal. The wrestlers that love wrestling more than their wives or families are abnormal to me. Wrestling was in Owen's blood, but I think Martha & her mother both looked down on wrestling & wrestlers. I get the feeling Martha was ashamed of her husband's profession from the moment she met him. I do feel really sorry for her and Owen's kids. I can't imagine the shock of the tragic loss she must have felt when she was told Owen died. If I had a choice I would have borrowed this book (if anyone I knew had it) or gotten it at a library, but the only way I could read it was to buy it. Still I am glad if the money goes to her and Owen's kids, or the Owen Hart foundation. I'm not anti-Marth Hart by any means. I just have different opinions than she does. I totally agree that Vince, WWE and others were negligent, stupid, and responsible for the horrible accident which cause Owen Hart his life. It is yet another case of wrestling going too far. I'm a big wrestling fan, but wrestling sometimes goes too far. I also liked the interaction between Bret Hart and Martha. Unlike some who criticize Bret, I am glad Martha appreciated his help. You could tell that Bret really loved his brother and was true to his word that he would look after Martha and Owen's kids if something ever happened to Owen. Despite my different opinions on wrestling and wrestlers, I feel good I purchased this book. If the money goes to Owen's family I feel good at the end of the day. I was absorbed by the book and don't regret buying it. At least now I know Martha's view on things and got to know Owen Hart a lot better than I did before I read this book. I recommend this book for the more die-hard wrestling fan, but warning that it might anger some with the anti-wrestling and putting down of wrestlers through-out the book. Other than the snobbish-ness I think Martha is a decent human being and feel sorry for her loss. | ||
| Cheating Death, Stealing Life | ||
![]() | "Great book! Sad, but very memorable" | 2007-03-09 |
| I just re-read this book. I absolutely loved it and put it up there with the best wrestling books out there. You feel connected to Eddie just like you did when you saw him on tv or dvd or in person. His charisma showed through the ups and downs of this book. I was left wondering what caused a lot of his demons though. He didn't fully explain the things that haunted him. Like his problems with his wife Vickie, he didn't really go into detail which left me wondering what she did wrong. Cheating? Their fights? Also I got the feeling there was more to his demons than he let on. It just left me curious. I'd like to see a book written by Vickie that might shed some light on things left unanswered in this book. Eddie was honest. Brutally honest. He didn't back off from saying who he liked and disliked. He was very upfront about his drinking, drugs (though never mentioned steriods whether he used or didn't use them), and his problems. He never acted like a saint, but obviously wanted to be a good person. Thankfully he beat the addictions and enjoyed some time with his loved ones before he passed on tragically. This book brought me to tears even in the second reading. It made me realize that life is a fragile thing and we got to respect and love people and show it while we can. Given Eddie's many brushes with death he was fortunate to be sober and drug-free for 4 years before his untimely death. Unfortunately, he paid the price for his past mistakes, but he got to patch things up with his wife and daughters, and reach new heights with his fans and ultimately becoming the World Champ! Highest recommendation possible,(right up there with Mick Foley's Have A Nice Day!) buy this book and quit reading this review! | ||

| This book is at it's best when Steve is being himself instead of the Stone Cold character. Unlike The Rock's book, this one is a bit more honest and not in character every moment. Still not written with as much honesty as Mick Foley's bios (Have A Nice Day & Foley Is Good and coming soon Hardcore Diaries). JR (Jim Ross) helps out mostly at the end of chapters and his insight is very helpful. Without JR this book would be a 2 or 3 stars. Not too much is said that isn't common knowledge, so I recommend this book for the more die-hard Stone Cold fans. This won't appeal to mainstream non-wrestling fans the way Mick Foley's books did. | ||
| Ric Flair: To Be the Man | ||
![]() | "A Surprisingly Good Read" | 2007-02-08 |
| I am not a big Ric Flair fan. Or I wasn't a big Flair fan back in his WCW days. I never tuned into WCW and have only caught up on Flair's history in wrestling through this book, his dvd set and WWE 24/7. I have grown to like the Nature Boy. Even though his book did create some controversy with his harsh words about Mick Foley and others, it gives you insight into the man and wrestler. If I could I would rate this as a 4 and a half stars out of five. The only wrestling book I think is a 5 star is Mick Foley's Have A Nice Day. This is close to being perfect (about on the same level as Mick's sequel Foley Is Good). You might not agree with everything the man says, but this book does what it intends to : entertain and inform. Highly recommended more for Flair/WCW fans or those who want to learn about the history of the business and one of the biggest stars to come along in the wrestling industry. | ||

| This figure is a perfect Sunstreaker. Much better than the G1 original toy. If you have Alternators Tracks & Sideswipe this is the perfect figure to compliment them. Transformation is relatively easy and unlike a lot of earlier Alternators, none of the parts came off in transformation (at least for me). It seems the Alternator line worked out the bugs of doors/arms falling off in transformation. A must-have if you love the cool Autobot cars from G1 | ||

| Tracks was always one of my favorite figures in the G1 line of Transformers. While his toy was a bit lame (in robot mode) the car mode was awesome. This Alternator version of Tracks is simply the best! Every other Alternator I have a preference for which mode it looks best in (Sideswipe and Sunstreaker look best in robot mode to me). With Tracks he is simply beautiful in either car or robot mode. A very durable figure as well. No parts fell off in transformation for me unlike figures like Grimlock & Wheeljack. A must-buy! | ||

| I think this is Parker's take on the tv series Spenser For Hire. He doesn't seem to have a high opinion of Hollywood actors/actresses. The other book in this series that this one is most like is : Looking For Rachel Wallace. While I am a huge Spenser fan I wouldn't say this novel is a must-have. It is more for those who are die-hard Spenser/Parker fans. It is still a good read, but many other novels in this series is better than this one. | ||

| My Top Ten Favorite Episodes - # 1 - The One with the Blackout - Hilarious episode from start to finish. Really sets the stage for Ross & Rachel & Ross's feelings for her in the series. The cat on the balcony steals the show as far as comedy goes. # 2 - The One with the Candy Hearts - The women were at the top of their game in this episode. Phoebe's eccentric-ness comes out hilariously when she decides that the women need to have a bonfire in Monica's living room as a clensing ritual to rid them of all the bad men they dated. A great episode for Chandler breaking up with Janice (Again!) and the funny awkwardness of it. # 3 - The One with the Monkey - Marcel steals the show here as he is more popular at the party than Ross is. Chandler and Janice's first breakup is a riot. # 4 - The One with All the Poker - A great guys vs girls episode. A funny episode (especially Marcel's song) that had the touch of nice emotion when Ross & Rachel go head to head in poker at the end. # 5 - The One Where Rachel Finds Out - A nice cliff-hanger leaving you with the feeling that this series is going somewhere and there is more to the characters than just laughs. You really pull for Ross & Rachel to get together. # 6 - The Pilot - While funny it is depressing at times, but it set the stage for all the characters, especially Ross & Rachel's future romance. # 7 - The One with the Boobies - Very funny episode. Chandler accidently sees Rachel's boobs when he walks in the apartment so she tries to see Chandler naked to even it up. She ends up seeing Joey in the shower (with a sandwhich!) and Joey's father. # 8 - The One with Mrs. Bing - Introducing Chandler's wild mother who kisses a drunk Ross (because he is having issues with Rachel & Paolo) The whole storyline with Mrs Bing was top-notch. The B-storyline of Monica and Phoebe taking care of a guy they distracted and got hit by a bus and in a coma is rather weak and boring. # 9 - The One with George Stephanoploulos - Funny episode where the girls get George's pizza by accident. They wonder about him sexually which leads them to discuss the guys (Ross, Joey & Chandler) and wonder about them romantically. The women had interesting insights (which led to different matchup possibilities). A real guys vs girls episode. # 10 - The One with the Dozen Lasagnas - Phoebe shows true friendship with Rachel by confessing that Paolo hit on her when she was massaging him. The end of Rachel and Paolo helped set things in motion (eventually) between Ross & Rachel. DVD details - Disc 1 - The Pilot - Monica and the gang introduce Rachel to the "real world" after she leaves her fiance at the alter. [Selectable Audio Commentary by : Executive Producers Kevin S Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane.] The One with the Sonogram at the End - Ross finds out his estranged lesbian wife and her girlfriend are going to have his baby. The One with the Thumb - Phoebe discovers a human thumb floating in her can of soda and gets compensation of $7,000. Meanwhile, Chandler is trapped in an automated-teller vestibule with a gorgeous model. The One Where Nana Dies Twice - Ross and Monica go to the bedside of their dead grandmother, who momentarily returns to life. Chandler questions his sexual persona when a colleague wants to arrange a date for him - with another guy! The One Where Underdog Gets Away - Monica plans a lovely, quiet Thanksgiving feast in her apartment but her plans go awry. The One with the Monkey - Ross arrives at the New Year's Eve party with his new companion, a monkey named Marcel, who is more compatible with the group than he is. The One with Mrs. Bing - Chandler's flamboyant romance-novelist mother comes to New York for a visit. Monica and Phoebe cause a traffic accident. The One with the Dozen Lasagnes - Rachel's Italian boyfriend Paolo hits on Phoebe in the massage parlor. Disc 3 - The One with the Boobies - Chandler sees Rachel in the nude and Joey learns that his father is having an affair. The One with the Stoned Guy - Ross asks Joey for advice on how to "talk dirty" to women. Monica interviews for a chef's position - and the restaurant owner is completely high........not on her but on drugs. The One with Two Parts - Phoebe's twin sister causes confusion and conflict when Joey is attracted to her. Monica and Rachel squabble over two handsome doctors. The One with All the Poker - The girls lose money in a poker game with the boys. After getting advice from a champion poker player, they demand a rematch. | Friends - The Complete Second Season | ||
![]() | "A must-buy for Friends fans!" | 2005-11-29 |
| My Top Ten Favorite Episodes - This season is so good that it is hard to pick a top 10 list because of so many good episodes. Some episodes that didn't make the list would be high on some of the top ten of the last seasons of Friends. Probably the best season overall because of Ross & Rachel being together (later seasons screwed up by having them apart and dating others but occasionally getting back together and eventually having a daughter together still not as satisfying as season two's take on their romance). Disk 3 is almost perfect as far as great episodes go. Not one episode on that disk is a let-down. # 1 - The One Where Ross and Rachel....You Know - This episode gaves fans what we wanted all along, Ross & Rachel on their first date. On top of that Monica & Richard (Tom Selleck) hook up as well and Chandler & Joey get the new chairs and a big screen tv. One of the best episodes of the series let alone this season. # 2 - The One Where Eddie Won't Go - Hilarious episode. Eddie is very funny as the insane roommate of Chandler. Having Chandler & Joey reunited was a nice touch. The girls having empowerment leads to comedy when Rachel tells Ross something funny. Eddie is the show-stealer here and was missed after this episode. The episode also showed how Joey & Chandler living together led to great comedy. # 3 - The One Where Ross Finds Out - Funny episode when Rachel is out on a date she drives him nuts because she is stuck on Ross. Rachel gets drunk and calls Ross leaving a message about how she is over him. A hungover Rachel the next day can't remember she left the message until Ross calls home to check his messages. Show has the best ending of the series when Ross & Rachel finally kiss for the first time. # 4 - The One With The Prom Video - The first flashback episode to when Monica was fat, Rachel had a bad nose & Ross had his curly hair & mustache. Showed all the characters that Ross truly loved Rachel even back in her highschool and his college years. Phoebe's lobster story was funny and sweet. # 5 - The One with the List - Ross gets himself into trouble just when it seems like he and Rachel are about to hook up. He can't seem to decide between her and Julie when Chandler and Joey suggest making a list of her good & bad traits. A great episode for Ross & Rachel being sooooo close to being together but he messes things up. # 6 - The One Where Joey Moves Out - Funny episode for Joey licking a spoon putting it back without washing it and his story about soap. Emotional when Joey moves out making you think just when you think the show is stable and reliable anything can happen. # 7 - The One Where Dr Ramoray Dies - Joey's character is killed off when he makes a remark about making up his own lines. Eddie seems stranger as Chandler's roommate. Joey & Chandler miss each other but can't bring themselves to admit it to each other. # 8 - The One With Two Parties - The cast was top-notch here as they had to go between the men's & women's apartment to keep Rachel's parents away from one another. The men were at their best (especially Ross in dealing with Rachel's stiff dad). Joey kissing Rachel's mom to distract her from her ex-husband leaving was also un-expected and hilarious. Monica's freaky sense of order showed up majorly for one of the first times in the series. # 9 - The One With The Chicken Pox - One of the best guest-star episodes of the series as Charlie Sheen plays Phoebe's sub-marine boyfriend who surfaces every once in awhile. Comedy ensues when Phoebe gets Chicken Pox for the first time and gives it to her boyfriend. Instead of romance the two try to scratch each other instead of making love. Monica feels she is too neurotic for Richard but he attempts to ease her mind by trying to convince her that she is normal. # 10 - The One With Russ - One of David Schwimmer's best acting jobs as he plays a duel role as Russ & Ross. Rachel dates a guy who is exactly like Ross & everyone sees the similarity except Rachel, Russ & Ross. Even though you want Ross & Rachel to be together her being with Russ this episode shows she still wants to be with Ross. DVD details - Disc 1 - The One with Ross's New Girlfriend - Rachel gets an unplesant surprise when Ross returns home. Phoebe has varied success when cutting her friends' hair! The One with the Breast Milk - Monica goes shopping with Ross's new girlfriend and is too afraid to tell Rachel. Joey is troubled when a fellow after-shave salesman outperforms him on the job. The One Where Heckles Dies - The downstairs neighbor dies and bequeaths his strange possessions to Monica and Rachel. The One with Phoebe's Husband - Everyone's surprised when Phoebe's husband shows up. The One with Five Steaks and an Eggplant - When planning a birthday party for Ross, the six discover money is an issue in life, even among friends. The One with the Baby on the Bus - Joey and Chandler accidentally leave Ben on a bus while babysitting. Phoebe (whose Smelly Cat debuts here) gets fired from her Central Perk singing gig, and is replaced by a professional. Disc 2 - The One Where Ross Finds Out - Dramatic developments occur in Ross and Rachel's relationship. Chandler regrets asking Monica to help him lose weight. The One with the List - Rachel makes a painful discovery concerning Ross. Monica's new boss gives her an impossible task. [Selectable Audio Commentary by Executive Producers Kevin S Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane] The One with Phoebe's Dad - Phoebe learns the surprising truth about her father. Ross makes Monica's Christmas party guests miserable. Rachel gets her revenge on Ross. The One with Russ - After some gentle persuasion, Joey accepts a great acting job. Rachel dates a guy who looks amazingly like Ross. The One with the Lesbian Wedding - Carol and Susan prepare for their wedding with help from an uncomfortable Ross. The One After the Super Bowl - Ross goes to visit Marcel the Monkey in the San Diego Zoo and finds the simian is pursuing a show-biz career. Joey has a date with a deranged fan. Lembeck won a Best Director Emmy. Disc 3 - The One with the Prom Video - Monica's old home video elicits the true feelings Ross has for Rachel. Joey gives Chandler a gift. [Selectable Audio Commentary by Executive Producers Kevin S Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane] The One Where Ross and Rachel...You Know - Ross and Rachel encounter romantic obstacles. Monica falls for a handsome older doctor. The One Where Joey Moves Out - Chandler catches Joey licking a spoon and replacing it in the drawer, and a major fight ensues. Monica's parents find out about her new boyfriend. The One Where Eddie Movies In - Joey and Chandler pine for each other but neither will admit it. Chandler gets a new roommate. A record company asks Phoebe to make a Smelly Cat music video. The One Where Dr Ramoray Dies - Joey's soap character looks set to be killed off after Joey makes some contentious remarks to a fan magazine. Monica and Richard have their first arguement. The One Where Eddie Won't Go - Chandler battles to get rid of his annoying new roommate and have Joey, who's feeling the crunch of unemployment and mounting debt, move back in. The girls discover a book on personal empowerment. Disc 4 - The One Where Old Yeller Dies - Impressionable Phoebe becomes depressed when it dawns on her that some movies don't end happily. Richard bonds with Chandler and Joey at a basketball game. The One with the Bullies - Chandler and Ross are intimidated by two bullies who take over the friends' Central Perk sofa. Phoebe meets her long-lost family. The One with Two Parties - Rachel gets a real surprise when her parents show up at her birthday party. The One with the Chicken Pox - When Phoebe catches chicken pox, her chances for romance with an ex-lover are nearly ruined. Monica feels zshe may be too neurotic for straight-arrow Richard. | Lois & Clark - The New Adventures of Superman - The Complete First Season | ||
![]() | "We miss Lois & Clark" | 2005-06-16 |
| Sure it got campy and downright stupid at times, but Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher had one thing you need in a series : chemistry. Season One stuck to what a Superman TV should be about. Lois/Clark and the evil Lex Luthor. Season One Box set offers a lot. Sadly, last looks at departed Lane Smith as the best Perry White ever. This season also had the cool Cat (Catherine Grant) to be a foil for Lois. Michael Landes wasn't my favorite Jimmy Olsen (I liked his successor much better) but looking back at these DVDs he was fun and could either play the straight man or funny whenever he was called to do either. John Shea made a menacing Lex Luthor. It just seemed like the writers couldn't come up with much for him after this first season. He had potential to be so much more than what he ended up doing after Season One. The Kents (Martha & Jonathan) were Ok for the time in which this show ran. I much prefer John Schneider and O'nette Otoole as the Kents on Smallville. They add dimensions to the show that these Kents didn't or couldn't because of how they were written. The best episodes featured Lex Luthor bringing a somewhat serious threat against Superman and coming between Lois & Clark. Honeymoon In Metropolis stands out as one of the most romantic episodes with Lois & Clark going on stakeout and having to be together in a honeymoon suite. All Shook Up is another nice episode where Superman gets amnesia. The Green, Green Glow Of Home is one of the few episodes to feature Smallville outside of the Kent Farm. Unfortunately it is not the likeable Smallville from the current TV show, but it is a relatively fun episode. Pheremone, My Lovely is a great episode in which the bad guy (or girl) is less deadly and actually causes a lot of funny things to happen. This is Cat's best episode and Teri Hatcher is steaming hot as (Lois) she tries to seduce Clark. Vatman stands out as a Superman vs Superman episode. Unfortunately they didn't call him Bizarro, but at least they used him. Here is where the writers tended to mess up with a huge villians gallery. Vatman was a pretty bad title as well. Why not just Bizarre, or Bizzaro? Fly Hard was pretty nice in that it was based pretty much on Die Hard. Clark had to find a way to protect Lois/Perry/Jimmy & Lex without revealing he was Superman. It was a challange because they were all stuck in a room for the majority of the episode. The House Of Luthor brought to a head the romance between Lex & Lois. It left a lot up in the air to look forward to Season Two. Overall if you liked Lois & Clark at all you should love this season. It was the best. Before Teri Hatcher cut her hair way too short. Before Lois and Clark got together and ruined the romantic/sexual tension that was as important to the show as it was to Moonlighting. Before Lex disappeared/reappeared and disappeared again. John Shea was missed in future seasons as was Cat she added sexual tension to the show that was missed when she was gone. Also this season was before cast members came and went or were replaced with different people confusing the viewers. The storylines were basically about Clark/Lois and or Lex and of course Superman. The supporting cast picked up the rest and kept this show top notch in the first season. The same couldn't be said about future seasons when the show got too silly/campy and lost all bit of reality it had in season one. Buy this set if you loved the show. You won't regret it. I didn't. | ||
| Transformers Alternators - Mazda RX-8 (Shock Blast) | ||
![]() | "Shockblast (Shockwave) looks cool." | 2005-05-17 |
| Ok I got my Shockblast in the mail yesterday. It is not the Amazon one (that should arrive today) but still the exact same thing. First off the toy looks cool in car mode, but as with all my Alternators I display them in robot mode. Shockblast's transformation isn't easy. Definately not recommended for kids. The first piece that fell off (barely touching it mind you) was one of the back doors. Easily enough I reattached it and it fell off again. Then the right arm fell off (probably a total of 5 times during transformation). The legs are tough to transform. If you don't do it right it looks like the legs are assembled wrong. What you are supposed to do is spread the legs in a split and rotate them at the hip joints. You also have to do some moving of the feet which can spin 360 degrees like the hips. Then when I transformed the upper part the hood fell off. It was not easy to reattach. I took a total of about 15-30 minutes to try to reattach it. It's such a tight fit that the small hood piece for his head kept popping off from the rest of the hood. It's not easy to put back once it comes off. Unlike some of the other Alternators (except Silvestreak, smokescreen & Grimlock) Shockblast seems to be made of a really cheap plastic that makes pieces fall off easier. He makes Hound seem very durable in comparison. I had thought Hasbro found a way to make these figures more durable since I had no problems with my Windcharger. Not one piece fell off of him. All that said, Shockblast looks good in car mode and is tied with Energon Shockblast for being the best representation of G1 Shockwave. His laser gun arm the gun has some movement to it. It can be turned 360 degrees and slight movement up and down and side to side. His other gun is one of the worst guns in this line. It looks pretty bad and cheap. Oh and don't try to move Shockblast's "ears" because unlike Energon Shockblast his ears have no movement. This is unfortunate because it might make the transformation of his head and upper parts easier if they could be moved and stored in car mode. His knees are one of the best parts about him. They seem tight and are fully poseable you can bend them and using the moveable hip joints you can pose his legs sideways, straight or even backwards if you want. When you bend his knees it makes the transformation sounds like the original Shockwave, Soundwave and some of the older metallic figures. In that aspect his legs are very tight which is much better then his arms, hood, and doors which fall off too easy. You would think since some of the problems with the previous Alternators that they would have caught this common problems with arms falling off and doors falling off too easy, but the problems only seem worse in the case of Shockblast. Don't they have a focus group to test and help find these problems? If so what are they getting paid for when defective products like this are released? Complaints aside I realize not every figure is the same. This Shockblast could have all these problems and the next one in the line might have no problems. It's a matter of luck when buying. Shockblast is near the tops in looks of both car and robot modes. I put him up with Battle Ravage, Tracks, Sideswipe & Dead End as being the best looking in both modes. If you want Shockblast in a more durable form I'd recommend the Binal Tech figures, though they range in price from about $45-55 but they are die-cast and the best homages to the G1 figures. I have yet to shell out that amount for any Binal Tech because as cheap as the Alternators are they can be easily replaced. Now to get Meister (Jazz which is impossible to find it seems) and Wheeljack and I will be up-to-date with my Alternator figures. | ||
| Transformers Alternators Deluxe Car: Jeep Wrangler Swindle | ||
![]() | "Swindle is OK" | 2005-05-14 |
| Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of yellow or orange or whatever Swindle is, but I am not too crazy about this figure. Maybe it's because I already have Hound and like his looks far better. The only real difference between the two seems to be color and the eyes and symbols. On the other hand Swindle is very easy to trasform if you already have Hound you know the routine. His arms also seem more stable and did not come off in transformation like Hound's did. I'd buy Swindle at the cheapest price $(...) but I wouldn't spend more then that. There are far cooler Alternators to pick ahead of him. | ||
| Transformers Alternators Honda S2000 Windcharger | ||
![]() | "Windcharger is awesome!" | 2005-05-14 |
| I'm just a sucker for red figures. And when you compare the G1 original Windcharger (a very weak bad-looking robot) to this, it is light-years behind this wonderful figure. First off he comes with two hoods. A covertible mode (which looks better) and a full hood which can be used as a shield in robot mode. While not being too impressed with the car mode (just isn't my type) his robot mode if very impressive and great to look at. His transformation is relatively easy with a catch. I had a bit if a struggle to transform the front end on my Windcharger. Sometimes it's just a matter of being patient. If you force things they can break. Windcharger did not have any pieces come off in transformation (unlike Grimlock, Silverstreak, Smokescreen & Hound). That's a big plus even though the pieces that come off can be put back together easily (unless really broken). I highly recommend Windcharger. A great figure. | ||

![]() | "Phil The Greatest Coach Ever!" | 2004-10-15 |
| Not only does Phil Jackson take you inside the Chicago Bulls, like a passenger, he lets you into his life story here. I read this book about 5 times since buying it. Phil keeps the interest level high. My main criticism about him and the book is that it might talk about Zen a little too much at times. I understand explaining his philosophy, but after awhile it gets redundant. I came to love Phil Jackson as coach of the Chicago Bulls. I came to feel the opposite about him when he coached the Lakers. I guess it depends on your view of the teams. Now that Jackson no longer coaches the Lakers I can see it wasn't him that I viewed as the enemy so much as the cockiness of his main star Kobe Bryant. I despise Kobe. Much like I despised Larry Bird in his playing days (being a 76ers fan it was natural to feel that way about Bird). I felt different about Bird in his coaching days and came to respect and, well LIKE Coach Larry Bird. I just bought/pre-ordered 2 more Phil Jackson books: The Last Season: A Team In Search Of It's Soul & More Then A Game. I will write reviews on those books as soon as I recieve and read them. | ||

| I wasn't a big Inferno fan as a kid. Not of the toy or the cartoon version. Now having the toy I see some upsides. I like how the fists or weapons can be shot out of his arms. I pose mine in the base command part of one of my 3 Powermaster Optimus Primes (the original G1 version). He is nice to add to a collection. I like his ladder in firetruck mode and I like his weapons in robot mode. | ||
| Transformers - First Season Collector's Edition | ||
![]() | "Awesome" | 2004-06-13 |
| Ok, there are tons of reviews nit-picking every little detail in this box set. I am not going to do that. If you look for mistakes hard enough you will find them, hell you will spot them easily in this box set. But if you are looking to be entertained, as you were when you were a kid watching this series, then you will feel like a kid again seeing this series come to life again on DVD. This is not your kid's Beast Wars or Beast Machines or Transformers Armada, Energon or whatever other boring, bad-animation, rip-off that spun off of one of the greatest cartoons/toy-lines ever. No, this is the original and best. From the introduction of the Transformers in the 3-part opening episodes "More Than Meets The Eye" to the introduction of Skyfire (Fire In The Sky) & Dinobots (S.O.S Dinobots & War Of The Dinobots) to the introduction of the Constructicons (Heavy Metal War) & the Insecticons (A Plague Of Insecticons). This first season is what started it all. None of us would be writing reviews, or caring about the Transformers all these years later, if not for this first season. The 2nd season gets better with introductions of Omega Supreme, the Aerialbots and others. The 4th disk is all Special Features with bumpers, Botcon special and oher extras and outtakes. The first Box Set is definately one of the best. The animation and characters stand the test of time. This was long before they created Transformers with little or no character. Optimus Prime is one of the best leaders ever in a cartoon, cool characters like Sideswipe, Jazz, Bumblebee and many others in the first season left us fans wanting more and more. The only problem I have with the Transformers cartoon continuity (not this box set but the overall series) is that there seems to be chunks of story cut out. For example, how did Teletran One get destroyed? What happened to the Ark? Where did Transformers from the Movie come from originally? Was Hot Rod built by the Autobots on Earth or was he a rebuilt Autobot from Cybertron? Same for Sky Lynx. Who created Autobot City aka Metroplex? What happened to Sparkplug (Spike's Dad)? If someone could answer some of these questions please feel free to email me at Joecool1@ptd.net | ||
| Transformers Season 3 Part 2/Season 4 Boxed Set | ||
![]() | "Good buy" | 2004-06-13 |
| I own the Season One Box Set and this set. This set is well worth buying if you are as big a fan of the episodes with Optimus Prime returning as I am. Also, I like Optimus's return to leadership status in the 3-part "Re-Birth" miniseries on the final disk with the introduction of the Headmasters & Targetmasters. I was lucky enough to get an Optimus Prime/Rodimus Prime Film Cell in my Box Set along with a Scorponok film cell. I guess it is just the luck of the draw, because the film cells I got in the first season Box Set were a bit disappointing (Megatron & an Energon cube, Starscream & Energon Cube & my friend gave me 2 cells of Ravage and Rumble all 4 are disappointing). Both Film Cells in this Box Set I got were damn cool and well worth the price alone. Other episodes I loved in this box set. "Ghost In The Machine" with Starscream's ghost trying to bring Unicron back to life. "Call Of The Primitives" which features the Dinobots, Sky Lynx and others while also explaining a little more of the Transformers history, "Grimlock's New Brain" which was both funny and cool and introduces the Technobots, "The Ultimate Weapon" which has a cool fight between Metroplex & Tryptycon, "The Burden Hardest To Bear" with Rodimus Prime doubting his leadership and the Matrix is stolen from him & Hot Rod returns! But 2 of my fav Transformers episodes of all-time is the 2-parter "The Return Of Optimus Prime" there is a hate plague that is spreading through the galaxy infecting both Autobots & Decepticons. Optimus's body is saved and he is brought back to life by a Quintesson. The Matrix is the one thing that can stop the hate plague, but it is in an infected Rodimus Prime. Optimus & Rodimus have a classic battle. These are two of the best post-Movie Transformers episodes and well worth the price of this box set in my opinion. The 3-part "Re-Birth series is also nice, but a bit ruined by too many Tramsformers with little or no character to them. I think this is when a lot of fans started tuning out the Transformers, when quantity was valued more then quality. Still Optimus Prime makes this 3-parter well worth watching and buying. The animation in this cartoon series (years 1-4) are among the best well-detailed animations of all-time. This is part of why this series is so beloved, besides great character development. The Generation One cartoons are the best and should be in all true Transformers fans collections. | ||

| The God Gambit The Core Make Tracks The Autobot Run Golden Lagoon Quest for Survival The Secret of Omega Supreme Child's Play The Gambler The Search for Alpha Trion Auto-Bop Prime Target The Girl who Loved Powerglide Triple Takeover Sea Change Hoist Goes Hollywood The Key to Vector Sigma, parts 1 and 2 Aerial Assault Masquerade Trans-Europe Express War Dawn Cosmic Rust I must say I was a bit disappointed with Season 2 part one. The one episode was completely unwatchable because it kept freezing up so I ended up taking it back to exchange it only the store didnt have any copies so I am still without season two part one but will eventually buy it again. I am looking forward to season 2 part 2 even more because I loved the episode about Omega Supreme and he seems to be in more episodes here. I am a big Omega fan. Also the Key To Vector Sigma episodes have the introduction to the Aerialbots which are also among my favorite autobots. Golden Lagoon is one of my favorite all-time episodes. It was just good fun but also with a good message. The animation during this season was fantastic. The first season was well animated but this season was awesome with Omega Supreme and some of my favorite autobots taking the spotlight. I wished the Transformers focused more on two of my favorite autobots Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. Optimus Prime is of course my favorite and displayed his leadership abilities at all times. If you planned to buy only one season so far I recommend season one but if you planned to buy two I recommend season one and season two part 2. I can't wait for future seasons though so I can see hot rod and rodimus prime on dvd. I highly recommend this season though. Enjoy! | ||
