| I run a mix of LG, Blackberry and Motorola phones btween work and personal. When I first got the H700 it was a good solid connection to phone with excellent audio. After 2 months of heavy use, the Btooth connection would reset w/o warning...callers would complain about voice audio quality and battery life was horrible at 6mos. Noise cancelling was poor but the headset was rather light plus the power supply could be used to charge both phone and headset and vice a versa. Now with headset dead...at least I've got a spare phone charger out of the deal | ||

![]() | "A diamond in the rough" | 2006-09-18 |
| Session 9 is not so much a horror film as it is a suspenseful thriller. An outstanding cast complemented by an intricate plot coalesces with great cinematography to yield a movie that will keep you on edge and guessing to the end. A down on their luck asbestos abatement crew take on a high pressure project to sanitize the Danvers Mental Hospital....a sad overbearing and depressing building of late 1800's design. The viewers are lulled into the storyline by one of the workers who tells the history of one patient's experience at the treatment facility. The strained interpersonal relationships, tight deadlines and foreboding atmosphere create a pressure cooker of stress for the characters. The "Session" tapes of one therapists treatments are used as a device to set the tone for the movie....a soundtrack of sadness if you will. It's a clever tool which enhances the atmosphere and leaves the viewer waiting for the next installment. The days tick by with each one holding new challenges for the crew until one by one....they succumb to the evil which lies amongst them. An excellent film suitable for older teens that can process the content and a worthy addition to any film aficionado's shelf...buy it or rent it for that dreary autumn night!. | ||

![]() | "Predictable, Superficial and Rather Boring" | 2006-09-03 |
| I love a good mystery and enjoy a paranormal slant in a book. What drew me to Butcher's book was a recommendation he made on a Laurel Hamilton (Anita Blake) novel and I had high hopes that it would be a good relaxing romp. Sadly, I was rather disappointed. The main character is Harry Dresden who for all intensive purposes plays Gumshoe specializing in the occult. Often a consultant to the local PD, he is drawn into a murder case which involves the use of Black Magic. The book reads well but regretably, there is nothing new here. The plot is predictable, the characters shallow, little interpersonal development and as for a mystery...you'll know who did it before you're a third through the book. | ||

![]() | "outstanding, a dying breed!" | 2006-09-03 |
| I found this to be an outstanding miniseries and it's a shame that westerns like this are few and far between... Westerns are such a great format for showing our country and its heritage. Frankly, Lonesome Dove it is Americana. The character interaction between Duvall and Jones makes this film the masterpiece that it is. As viewers, we are drawn into the lives of two lifelong fiends that are entering the twilight years of their lives. Former Rangers, they tamed the SW Border Territory together. Then disillusioned, spent their best years in the personal purgatory of Lonesome Dove...where their only source of amusement is getting drunk, getting laid by the town's only prostitute or stealing horses from across the border. Feats of valor forgotten, their self-respect diminished, they realize that life and opportunity have passed them bye. Both become determined to confront death one last time. What occurs in this film is a keen examination of the love between two aging men, both agreeing to make a cattle drive to Montana and setup a ranch.....a perilous feat worth of recapturing their youth and self respect....but in reality, a journey from which they both hope not to return. Many of us follow the same path, with friendships so old and close that one cannot easily discards one's obligation to the other. This is the common thread that rivets us to the screen .We are brought into the relationship of Call and McCrea to garner what the meaning of friendship is between two men who have known each other for so long. I cannot think of any film that has adequately exposed this quality among men so well except for Lonesome Dove | ||

![]() | "An ending you'll never forget" | 2006-09-01 |
| I find that the true measure of depth for a movie is evident in its' projected empathy. If you're looking for a touchy-feel good movie this definitely is not it. Bitter Moon emphasizes the worst in humanity and provokes a guttural disgust for the characters played by Peter Coyote and Emmanuel Seigner. Hugh Grant and Kristen Scott Thomas represent the pawnish almost innocent characters within Oscar and Mimi's sadistic game of emotional chess. I would never identify this movie as a "Black Comedy" but more of an erotic drama dealing with the dark side of the human libido. You're drawn into the relationship of Oscar and Mimi as outsiders listening to the story of their life. Along with Hugh Grant's character, you listen to their story ...from the inception of their lusty affair to their tortured life where the only reason that they exist as a married couple is in a vain attempt to limit their damage to the rest of humanity. Two people bonded together in a never ending battle to inflict torture upon the other...where everyone else is pawns and collateral damage. The content is definitely not for kids and not for the timid. If you enjoyed Glen Close and John Malkovich in Dangerous Liaison's or the War of the Roses, then this is a film for you! With one of the best endings I've seen in a film dating back to the early 90's...I doubt you'll be disappointed. | ||

| MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-292 and 70-296): Upgrading Your Certification to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 | ||
![]() | "Best Comprehensive Book Available but not without faults" | 2006-08-31 |
| I used this book as a primary study guide for the 2003 upgrade exams and although it doesn't cover all the material, it is an excellent book and in my humble opinion the single best source of prepartion. From what I've gathered, the exams changed sometime in late 2005 and some of the content is dated. That however is not the fault of the authors and unlike many of the "Microsoft Press" books, I found this an enjoyable and easy read. The book is not indended to deeply review the "Core MCSE Curriculum". Its' audience is expected to be familiar with Windows 2000 engineering and administrative principles as well as a practicing administrator. The text will present content that is now covered under the exam (ie: high availibility services and certificate services)and features that are differential to the old product line. So do not expect this to be your sole source for content, at best it covers 80% of the exam's breadth. If you feel in the learch, I can only suggest brushing up on your 2000 or 2003 core infrastructure notes especially dealing with the subjects of GPOs and Site design\ AD-replication. Subjects that are missing from the book that require research are EMS (in-band\ out of band services), Role Separation for Cerificate services and WIFI GPO administrative practices. A list of references to supportive documentation can be found in the study notes at [...] . The webpage's host has done an admirable job of putting them together. In final preparation for the exam, I can only suggest Transcenders as a simulation software...accept no other. CBT nuggets has some great multi-media presentations available through their website to aid in reviewing the material and their content is first class. Good Luck | ||

![]() | "Outdated Material--Seek other Study Materials" | 2006-08-17 |
| I had purchased this book in 2004 with the intentions of completing the exam at that time. As most IT pros know, the best laid plans are often foiled and I was unable to really start reviewing the material until earlier in the year. As much as I like the "big happy friendly letters" and writing style of this book, you'll be left lacking. Read the book cover to cover...doing the labs...the practice exams and have successfully passed the exam. Flat out IT WONT DO IT! Get another book! Luckily, I checked the previous reviews and made a decision to invest in the Microsoft Upgrade book ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0735619719/sr=1-1/qid=1155760374/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7126449-1861536?ie=UTF8&s=books ) as well as a set of Transcender prep exams. This book will no longer prepare you for the depth of 70-292 and as a matter of fact, it may cover as little as 30% of the exams content. It's great for a light casual overview but just doesn't cover the following subjects deeply enough: 1, Security Infrastructure, Certificate Infrastructure, Troubleshooting 2, Detailed DNS, extensive command line review 3, GPO Policy, Automating Server and TS management, Priveleges 4, Server recovery procedures, ASR, DC recovery, WSUS Recovery If you want to pass this exam and move on to 70-296, get the Dan Holmes and Orin Thomas Microsoft Self Paced Training Kit as well as set of Transcenders. The Microsoft Book is not as dry as you'd expect and covers roughly 80% of the material...regretably, there isn't anything out there that will cover it %100. Good luck to you all | ||

![]() | "The DVD Extras perfectly compliment this outstanding documentary" | 2006-08-17 |
| This is an outstanding DVD documenting the events and the aftermath of an assault 2 climbers made upon the unscaled face of Sula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. I'm going to concentrate my comments upon the extras included in the DVD because I emphatically believe they make this an outstanding film set. Your given a running commentary of both climbers during the film but the DVD really shines when you see the "Making of" segment included as an extra. What the viewer may not know is that all the filming of "Touching" was done on site and all 3 main characters were present during the filming. They added context, preserved the story's integrity and helped the production crew understand the amount of respect that the mountain deserved. As many people who have gone through traumatic experiences of this grade know, you have little desire to relive them but sometime later one is led back to the scene... to recapture a piece of themselves that has been stolen. The DVD extras examine Joe and Simon's separate but joint quest. The intra\interpersonal emotional conflicts are evidenced in their dialogue and the interaction with the film crew. The strain, stress and consequences of uncontrollable events as well as their actions are laid bare before you to see. It helps the viewer understand the context upon which these choices were made, the weight that was shouldered then and the impact it has upon them on a daily basis. It's amazing that both have survived, not just the events on Sula but the aftermath and all the armchair criticism that has been uttered since. This DVD set in its' entirety is a tribute to the capacity of man to survive and overcome incredible odds. Both Simon and Joe are to be commended at their miraculous survival against nature. Any veteran, survivor, adventurer or would be outdoor enthusiast will be hard-pressed to find a better film depicting one,s survival against the overwhelming forces of nature, uncontrollable events and one's self. | I've had this unit working flawlessly for the last 4 months at a client's site. It fulfilled the need of having a combined WAP and VPN Endpoint which was hard to find at the time. My major gripe was the lack of setting MAC security for wifi clients only. When enabled, it effects both WIFI and LAN clients no either or capability. Outside of that minor issue, it was a good purchase. | ||

![]() | "A Harlequin Romance for the demented!" | 2006-08-17 |
| Being a guy who's interest range from American Revolutionary History and Classical Music to Technology, Electronica, Tom Clancy and Garrison Keillor.... How would I actually find this appealing? A friend was taking a shower and it was just lying there....now I just can't wait till the next book comes out. Who is Anita Blake? Plain and simple the Anita Blake series is an outstanding read which combines the qualities of Horror, Romance, Parallel realities, mystery, action and crime. In a world where preternatural beings coexist with mortals, she possesses certain talents which transcend the boundaries of the two realities. By night she works for an agency and raises the dead to solve estate issues, at other times she consults to the local law enforcement community as an expert on supernatural creatures...and when they get out of line....she's the court appointed executioner. Reminiscent of Bujold's character Cordelia Naismith, Blake is a small statured woman in her early 20s and of Latin ancestry that's many times older than her years. One of the draws of her character is her mental and physical toughness, often taken for granted by her adversaries...she has no qualms about using it to her advantage and literally ripping her adversaries head off. As a matter of fact "when vampires can bench press a bus" it's the only advantage she has. So how can she use it, how can she succeed? Moxy, intelligence and no pity. No pity, no compassion, no forgiveness...when she has to get down dirty with the monsters....she more of a monster than the monsters. As she progresses in the series, this worries her and is a constant battle. She feels she is losing her humanity and from her perspective you can see why...humans are capable of such deceit and greed at the cost of their own. Ultimately she's drawn to the society of the monsters and the clear cut rules that establish their society...which only the mortals could hope to aspire. Will she ultimately evolve into the thing she despises in this book? Only the next installment will tell. I hooked my cousin who has been in law enforcement for nearly 20 years onto these books, she's now addicted. So give it a try. Personally my favorite secondary character is Edward and well Anita is beginning to scare him a little....and his nickname among the monsters is...Death. Pick it up... you wont be able to put it down! | ||

| First off, although I work on computers gaming is not my thing. If my tech bretheren and I game it's usually to relieve stress and this FPS is not bad. We originally bought it to attempt to host across the internet by straight IP but you can only choose to use a local LAN on the same subnet or connect to NovaLogics host. This was a disappointment. Second issue for gaming is that it is designed for large groups and the maps are huge...2 persons are going to have a tough time on this one. On the bright side, the game was pretty good on older equipment and newer laptops which made it a pleasure to play. Team action and graphics were pretty good from the FPS perspective. Was it worth $20 for both BHD and Team Sabre? Maybe but I would rather have paid 10-15 | ||

| Also known as version 14, I've been evaluating second line anti-virus solutions of late and hit upon this suite from Trend MIcro. So far it has functioned flawlessly although my major complaint involves the complexity of the gui interface which may be a little daunting for the average computer user to overcome. The av client is actually pretty thin on memory however the Firewall component is overly bulky running at nearly 75MB of system mem at idle. I might be inclined to go for the AV only solution for systems which have less than 256MB of Ram. Otherwise it is a good solution and at least worth a 30 day trial which can be had from [...]. So far...none have failed and the CD install makes it easy for any Luddite to install. I once showed "Being John Malkovich" at a Friday gathering when the film was in its' hayday. Many seemed confused as to why the film had garnered such great reviews. Cecil was the follow-up movie of the evening that answered their questions. A fun time discussing it was had by all that night. I can best describe Cecil as a tongue and cheek dark comedy lampooning the movie industry, Hollywood, its' biases and image. The punk, anti-establishmentarian and counterculture fringe element in you should enjoy this feature. | ||

Between the driver issues and firmware issues as well as their increasing price, a better purchase can be found elsewhere. Flashing to previous and newer firmware had no effect. I spoke with a CLEC tech on the other end of the connection who reported fragmented packet errors. Swapping out the router resolved the issue. We were using SBC DSL Speedstream 5100 connection hardware known good, I didn't have another brand on hand to check harware compatability. I'd highly recommend another router...don't venture down this path.
