| Canon MX700 Office All-In-One (2186B002) | ||
![]() | "Did the job well enough until it's untimely death" | 2009-10-24 |
| I've had this Canon MX700 running since 08/07/2008 until suddenly, it met with a problem. As for printer tanks (cartridges) the replacements since 8/7/08 are as follows: Black replaced on 4/5/09 and on 9/11/09, Magenta replaced on 8/21/09, Cyan replaced on 8/31/09, Yellow low since 7/2/09 but still working as of 10/23/09. I use black more than anything else since I do try to use grayscale in printer prefs as much as possible. Quality paper works better with this and the only photo that I tried to copy still came out acceptable but not photo quality on basic paper (for testing). I mainly bought this because I use ethernet and that works well. As for the fax, I had to use one of my own phone cords due to length, no biggie. Faxing is fairly simple if following the instructions in the manual. Not the greatest fax though so I wouldn't want it at work, a little too complicated (wouldn't it be nice if faxes were universal to some extent?).
As for the end of this printer, we experienced a power glitch followed by a power outage last night. Now after several attempts to bring the screen from nothing to powered, we only see the error message: B200. I went to the Canon website, technical for my printer and typed in : error B200 and was told to power down, let rest for ten minutes then power up again, same result. Also checked the power going though the power cord and power adapter, cord is fine, adapter, not so fine. I'm still waiting to hear back from Canon, but I would expect that will have to be serviced (out of warranty) and since I only paid $119.99, that may not be worth it. | ||

![]() | "Lovin the wild ride!" | 2009-09-13 |
| Wow, this movie rocks. Yes, the effects with the shooting aren't realistic, but then, this isn't a documentary. My favorite scene(s) begin in the pharmacy and end with Wesley (main character) passed out in a fast moving vehicle. Great music too (best of all The Little Things). All-in-all, a nice violent rompfest. One of my top 20 choice movies...currently). | ||

![]() | "This is So Lame!" | 2007-10-06 |
| one of the characters says in the movie, "This is so lame, let's leave". Should be a clue to anyone who stuck around that long in the theater that it's time to ditch the movie. The jokes and dialog are half rate and so obvious that originality of any kind flew out the window. I suppose that if I were 13, I'd get some sort of kick out of it, but these days, I wait for a movie like this one to make it to DVD and rent one and get this one free for five nights. Thank goodness I didn't pay to rent this or I'd be tempted, for the first time to ask for my money back, LOL. | ||

| Oral-B Hummingbird Power Flosser Starter Set | ||
![]() | "Very Dissappointed" | 2007-02-21 |
| I bought this Hummingbird Flosser kit thinking that it could do the same work that my tired and circulation restricted fingers do. It failed in getting between even my not-so-tightly spaced teeth. I guess I'll stick with Oral B Ultra Floss since it works. If your teeth are very tight/close together, I would suggest that you not buy the Hummingbird flosser. | ||
| Oral B 7850DLX Professional Care Deluxe Power Toothbrush | ||
![]() | "Would be 5 star if not for non-replaceable battery" | 2005-09-17 |
| Out of the box, it actually took my Oral B Professional Care 7850 DLX a total of 19 hours and a few more minutes to be fully charged for the first time (the manual states that it takes at least 16 hours for a full charge, so keep this in mind). Several heads come with this set and in my opinion, the Extra Soft Brushheads would be good for polishing fine jewelry perhaps; the bristles are so very soft. I tried one of the FlexiSoft Brushheads, but quickly switched to a separately purchased Oral B Power Polisher head EB 18-3 (3 pack). I found myself not really paying attention to the timing of the 30 second vibration since I probably use it for two full cycles. One cycle totalling 2 minutes just doesn't seem thorough. I'll say this though, no simple/manual toothbrush I've owned does as good of a job and I don't think it can. I've used this for a month now and have not noticed a change in my coloring, but my teeth do feel very clean and polished, in any case. I attribute the lack of change to my consumption of carbonated, dark sodas. Here's my rating system: Cleans teath and gums: 5 stars Improves staining: 3 stars (indifferent) Easy to use: 4 stars (would be easier for me if I were only one using it) Speed options: 3 stars (would like it to be at slow speed to start, paste goes flying off fast otherwise) Clothing intact: 3 stars (dribble factor, always have to keep chin up and keep a kleenex at the ready) Price: 5 stars (most places charge $100. for this one, or more) Ease in getting replacement heads: 4 stars (most brick and mortar places have tons of the extra soft heads, and usually some flexisoft heads, harder to find the Polishing heads, not to mention cheaper here on Amazon.com anyway) Battery: 1 star (it seems every deluxe toothbrush out there now only uses battery packs that, upon removal, destroy something on the circuit board, rendering it inoperable....I used to have a Braun and was able to replace the battery by having one built at Batteries Plus...up until the Braun gave up the ghost) ___________________________________________________________ All in all, I'd give this a handicapped total of 4 stars since I believe that some of my ratings would apply to any brand/type of deluxe toothbrush out there. | ||
| Grosse Pointe Blank: Music From The Film | ||
![]() | "One of my top ten CDs" | 2005-08-27 |
| Whoa! I do really enjoy listening to this soundtrack CD and I think I liked the Guns and Roses song better than our friend from Hawaii. When I hear "Live and let Die", I recall the scene when John's character pulls up to what he believes to be his Mother's house (the house he grew up in). When I first saw that scene, I just about fell off the couch laughing. A perfect song for that look on his face. I too could have done without the plunky sounding "Blister in the Sun" revision; it gets old to have to skip it. I'm also thinking of picking up Vol. 2 Grosse Pointe Blank soundtrack; I'd wondered where the other tracks went to; LOL. Worth the money in my book; It'll probably be playing on my old system when they pry the remote out of my scriveled old hand years from now. | ||
| Kds 19 Silver / Gray Flat Crt 1600X1200@60HZ 0.20MM(H) Dot Pitch | ||
![]() | "Excellent value" | 2005-08-23 |
| I found this KDS XF-9s to be simple to use right out of the box. I did, however get the manual out to peek at page 2 to figure out how to stretch as much picture to the edges as possible. Even so, I can still see a small border of black around it, which is no different from the last monitor I had, so no problemo. I bought this so that I could use the 1600 x 1200 resolution, seeing how I also play Everquest which supports that resolution. I highly recommend this monitor for those who have the honking space for it. The front of the monitor case is pretty large, leaving you plenty of room for stickable notes. I really like that the top of the front is flat and I was able to attach a small bar shaped light (so that I could turn off the other lights, just have that one on for surfing or playing EQ in the dark, so to speak). The adjustments are fairly easy to use and the monitor wasn't as heavy as my old Dell Ultrascan P990; thank goodness. | ||
| Conair Instant Heat Jumbo Rollers | ||
![]() | "Shame on you Conair" | 2004-05-01 |
| My hair is naturally wavy unless I brush it straight while blow drying and when trying to curl it, my hair is thin and silky making it difficult to roll up or keep in a curling iron. Then I bought the Conair CHV14N Jumbo Roller set and was soon frustrated by the stupid pins included with the rollers. They do not stay put and the roller gradually falls off. Allow me to describe; first, I grab a small clump of hair and using my fingers, manipulate the roller to hold the ends of my hair while trying to keep the ends from flying out. Finally, I suceed in getting the hair to stay in the roller (the roller is rolled up to the area of my ear, just trying to curl in the ends, not all the way to the root). Then I reach for a pin and get it on there all right, begin work on the next clump of hair when the first roller starts to creep it's way down, no longer horizontal, but becoming more vertical. Solution? I went to Meijer's and found some roller hinge-type clips for 5 bucks in a bag of 10. Sure makes a difference. Also, I am having trouble rolling up the back hair. Any tips there? My overall hair length uncurled is just below shoulder length. Hope this helps. I sure wish that Conair had included hinge clips with this set; the pins are practically useless for my fine hair. | ||
| Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Fifth Season | ||
![]() | "Great Buffy Season, despite the sister" | 2003-11-29 |
| Like some, I didn't begin watching Buffy until she went to college and I was hooked right away. Then I began watching the rest of the episodes on FX and whatever other of the 3 channels that would show it. I felt that the depth of Buffy improved with each year, so I disagree that the first 3 years were better than the later ones. I suppose that Angel's departure could have something to do with that opinion (that the early years were better) hehe. I found the earlier years to be lacking in truly engaging or witty dialogue. Now as for year 5, I loved the writing and the maturation process that Buffy went through, except for the surprise introduction of the sister. Not to mention Buffy's attempt to solve the question of how to save the planet. I was a little embarrassed to admit that I wondered if and when Buffy would return since the network dumped Buffy the Vampire Slayer, how stupid was that? lol This season rocks and is a build up to season 6 which brings Spike more into the spotlight, hehe, he's my fave. | ||
| The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) | ||
![]() | "Lotr: Two Towers Extended, why not in the theatre?" | 2003-11-29 |
| I loved the extended version of the Two Towers and I really wish that the theaters would offer this version for just this type of film. Look at movies like the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, or It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World; both are 160 minutes with an intermission stuck in there. Now, what would be really wrong with doing that? Not complaining about the system I have at home to see it, 70 inch screen, but it would be better on the really big screen. As for the extended parts, some friends asked me if the added bits were on the extra discs or not. They most definately are not on a separate disc. I was amazed to find out from watching the supplimentary discs that soundtrack had to be recorded to go with the added footage. The documentaries are longer than the movie and that says alot. Some of the added commentary is a bit repetitive, especially the Golum/Smeagle part. If you only buy it to see the movie itself, it is so much better, in my opinion, than the theatrical version. There is a case against adding scenes to movies, case in point: Aliens. If you've seen that, you know what I mean. I have two versions of Aliens, but I won't buy Two Towers the original; don't want to. Can't wait to see the next one on December 17 :D | ||
| Old Dutch Half Round Pot Rack, Graphite | ||
![]() | "Updating my review of the graphite pot rack" | 2003-05-18 |
| This has to be about the least expensive pot rack. It does sort of look inexpensive and it is really small. I was able to fit only 12 items on it; yes...there are only 12 hooks, not 16 as stated above. Even if there were 16 hooks, I don't know where the extra 4 items would have gone. You get 6 hooks that are sharply angled and 6 that are like cup hooks (curved). I put a 13" heavy grill pan, a wok, 2x 7" omlet pans, 2 x 9" omlets, 2 x 11" omlets, 1 x 1QT revere saucepan, 1 x 2 QT revere suacepan, 1 x 2.1 QT Tfal saucepan and 1 x 3.1 QT Tfal saucepan. The Tfal handles were large and the angled hooks had to be reversed to make it work for me. The whole lot looks pretty crowded, but nice. As for installation, there are absolutely no instructions covering the attachment of the rack to the wall. I got (3) 1.5" screws which I had doubts about, so I used longer screws and anchors on the lower two holes. By the way, if your studs are like mine, they are 16" apart; the lower holes are not 16", but much further, so only the top screw went into a stud and lined up over my window nicely. I would suggest using longer screws since 1 1/2" really means 7/8" if going into a stud through 5/8" drywall. Like I said, it is really packed, so if you have more than I did, get a bigger one, not this one. UPDATE: I've had this rack for more than 3 years and still like having it despite the size. I keep a pair of BBQ tongs around just in case I manage to knock a hook off it's normal spot, which does happen a few times a year. I had to mount it pretty high up, so I don't use the shelf for anything since I can't reach it without a ladder. I don't regret getting this item and if the decor calls for a change in the color/finish, I am certain I would be able to find a good spray paint and make the change myself, easily. Bottom line, I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could, for the value and longevity of it. Original purchase date, May 2003. | ||

| Tomorrow Never Dies (Special Edition) | ||
![]() | "Tomorrow Never Dies:Special Edition DVD" | 2000-01-22 |
| I'm no die-hard fan of James Bond, but I thoroughly enjoyed and still enjoy watching the DVD Special Edition of Tomorrow Never Dies (TND). I'll refer to characters in my description. I thought that Mr. Stamper was a pretty mean, cool and formula looking tough guy (see some Jackie Chan films, you'll see a resemblance). I couldn't wait to see Elliot Carver go. Bond's female counterpart, Colonel Wai Lin was the best I've seen for a while (partial to the eastern style of attack). The motorcycle scene was the best! Also, I liked Sheryl Crow's song; she may be yesterday's top entertainer, but I still thought it fit in well. Finally, Pierce Brosnan showed compassion that is needed in Bond. One more thing, it's worth the money to get a home theater (big screen, stereo, dvd, etc) when watching a movie like this one. VHS doesn't cut it. | ||
