![]() | "LITTLE KNOWN TRIVIA FACTS ABOUT MONOPOLY" | 2009-07-08 |
| There are many hidden trivial facts about Monopoly which I've discovered through various books and resources. For those of you with inquiring minds and interest, here are a few of them. Marvin Gardens has a few interesting things about it. First, it is misspelled by one letter on the property space. The word Gardens is properly spelled. It's the first word, Marvin, that is misspelled. The real Marvin Gardens is actually Marven Gardens. Second, Marvin Gardens is the only oddball street property on the board. It is not found within Atlantic City, New Jersey, which the other street properties are. Marven Gardens is found in nearby Margate, New Jersey. There are four railroads on the board, marked by the engine icon. This however is a misconception. There are in fact only three. Have a close look at the four properties. Pennsylvania Railroad, B&O (Baltimore and Ohio) Railroad, Reading Railroad, and Short Line. The trivia facts underlying the railroads are as follows. The Pennsylvania RR and the Reading RR once were the Pennsylvania-Reading Railroad. In other words, the two names were together as one. The B&O (Baltimore and Ohio) was a separate railroad line. Here is the big one regarding the remaining property. The fourth railroad property is another oddball. Known as the Short Line, it is not a railroad at all. It is a bus line. I have ridden the Short Line with my Grandma Balen to and from Trump Plaza. | ||
| iHome iH5 Clock Radio for iPod - White | ||
![]() | "iHome Clock Radio - The Clock Radio of the future" | 2009-03-23 |
| I love my iHome. It's the best clock radio I've ever owned and used. All of my other clock radios never had the same features as this model does. First of all, it's stereo. Most of your other clock radios were and are mono with no bass sound at all. The speakers on the iHome sound far bettter than any other clock radio. The best part about the iHome is the iPod dock. On the upside it plays, charges and can wake you to a track of your choice. On the downside, however, since the iPod is not concealed in a compartment of any kind, it is possible to knock the iPod out of the dock when asleep or otherwise. That is the only improvement I would make upon the iHome. I would conceal the iPod within a compartment in the unit, instead of having it stand up in a vertical position. Otherwise, the iHome is awesome. | ||

![]() | "Yamaha UX16 -- simple and convenient" | 2009-01-27 |
| I bought my Yamaha UX16 USB-MIDI interface just the other day. It replaced my former MIDI hookup, which was more complex and cumbersome. My other midi connection was a Midiman Midisport 2x2 from M-Audio. It was cool for a while, but I ran into a serious problem with it. When I upgraded my computer to my current system, I found that M-Audio does not have a 64-bit driver for my MIDI hardware. This left me with no choice. I called a few local electronics and music stores in my area. None of them had this in stock. However, I ended calling Piano Distributors in Sarasota. They had this for sale for $35.00. I knew I had struck gold. If you want to connect an older keyboard to your PC or laptop without any glitches or problems, get your hands on a UX16. | ||
| Rock Band Special Edition [Wii] | ||
![]() | "Rock Band for the Wii -- In the Name of Rock and Roll" | 2008-11-11 |
| I love my Rock Band for my Wii. I landed it for my birthday this past summer. It was the only item I had on my wish list at the time. I'm 39 years old, and love this game. This game really brings out the fun and functionality of the Wii. You can sing, play drums, bass guitar, lead guitar until your hearts content. I love the components of this set. The drum set, featuring Rock Band drumsticks, is the coolest drumkit I have ever played. I set it up for the first time on the night of my birthday, and felt like my name was Peter Criss from Kiss. The guitar controller far outranks the Guitar Hero controller. It looks, feels and sounds like a real Fender Stratocaster. Sure it has the same set of buttons the Guitar Hero controller does, but baby, that other set of buttons is the real difference maker. The other set of buttons I'm referring to is the solo set. When the time comes down to getting in a real hot solo, or a big rock ending, just let loose on the solo buttons. Also you never need to insert a remote into this puppy. The microphone brings out the vocalist in me. I have it on a real cool mic stand. Of course it needs a wireless mic holder, but that's a minor thing. Hearing my voice amplified through my home theater system in 5.1 surround is better than any studio setup. As far as the interface goes, the USB hookup is awesome. The tutorials are really great. On a whole, if you're a musician like me, or have a real band to play with, get your hand on Rock Band. Rock on Baby! | ||
| SanDisk 4 GB Cruzer Titanium USB Flash Drive with U3 | ||
![]() | "Sandisk 4GB Cruzer Titanium -- very versatile unit" | 2008-04-24 |
| I use my SanDisk Cruzer Titanium flash drive with both my computer and my Yamaha DGX-620. I have used it with my computer as a Readyboost drive for my Vista based system. I currently use it as an input device on my Yamaha DGX-620. I have many midi and XG music files on my Cruzer, and play them on my keyboard. If you have the money for one, and don't tell me you don't, I highly recommend buying one of these beauties. | ||
| PalmOne Tungsten E Hard Case | ||
![]() | "Tungsten E2 hard case -- well worth the money." | 2007-04-14 |
| I love my Tungsten E2 hard case. It looks and functions better than the leather case which came with my E2.
When I used to put my E2 leather case into my rolling case, the stylus would come out of its holder on the E2. Now that I have a hard case, I don't have to worry about this any more. I also feel that the hard case offers my E2 more protection. If you have a Tungsten E or E2, get your hands on this hard case. You'll be glad you did. | ||
| Yamaha DGX620AD Electronic Keyboard w/ 88 Full size keys with graded hammer action | ||
![]() | "88 very hot keys" | 2007-03-31 |
| I love my Yamaha DGX-620. I have it paired with my DGX-500, and feel there are a few minor things which don't get in the way. Namely the fact that you cannot connect the two keyboards via MIDI/XG cables. The 500 has standard MIDI ports, whereas the 620 has only USB ports. Other than that, I feel the two keyboards complement each other very well. They look and sound great together. I've owned and played other keyboards in my life, but none of them compare to the 620. I love the fully weighted graded hammer action keys. That's one feature that not even the 500 sports. I've connected my Dazzle SD/MMC card reader/writer to the input USB jack on the 620, with a 2GB SD in the device. On the SD card, I have my entire MIDI and XG music library. I feel the external drive which I use with my 620 is far better than the floppy drive on the 500. I also would like to point out the difference between the two keyboards as far as file names are concerned. The 500 does not sport the compatibility for long file names. You can only use up to eight characters per song name on the floppies. I find this particularly cryptic when it comes to the style and voice names on it. On the other hand, the 620 is compatible with long file names. Not only does it give you long file names for the song files, it also gives you complete names and graphic representations of all of the voices. Non cryptic names are also employed on the 620 as far as styles and other features are concerned. I also love the 620's display. Of course it does not show each and every note and chord you play. However, it shows you your song, style, voice and Music Database selections on the main screen. In addition, the display is a big part of the demonstration function. The graphic representations of the voices are really cool. It gives you virtually a different graphic for each and every voice. I noticed this particular feature the first time I turned on my 620. This gives you not only the complete name and number for each voice, but also imagery of the voice. Another feature that I love on the 620, which the 500 does not have, is the keypad and dial combo. I feel this combo, combined with the great GUI interface on the display, is a far cry from the 500 and older keyboards. I also love the deeper and more resonant bass response of the speakers on the 620. Not to mention the speaker cones are a snazzy white. The deeper more resonant bass response, combined with the powerful amplification, gives the 620 far better sound than most earlier keyboards. I also love the score feature. On the upside, it shows you chords, melodies, measures, and just about everything. On the downside, when you record a song to the user song slots, you cannot use the score button to see your recorded score immediately. You must copy the song to an external drive as a MIDI track to do so. If you play piano, and want a great digital piano, combined with the versatility of an electronic keyboard, get your hands on a Yamaha DGX-620 today. It's the kind of instrument that will go and grow with you far into the future. | ||
| Casper - Special Edition Casper (Widescreen) | ||
![]() | "Casper -- great film -- how about a Box Set?" | 2006-10-22 |
| I once owned the first three Casper films on VHS. I'm glad that they're now available on DVD. I know that there are at least three films, maybe more. Here's my main idea. There should be an Ultimate Casper Collection DVD box set. I for one am an avid collector, and I feel box sets make it more convenient to get series of movies together. Casper appeared for the first time in theaters back in 1995. It's high time that a Casper box set be released. | ||
