| I conduct psychological experiments and need a watch with large digits. This is it. It is easy to synchronize it with the official USA clock on the internet, which is a necessity for me. I also wanted a watch that lights up, since I like to know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night. I can't speak to the other features, since I use this for one, sole purpose: precision time keeping. This watch delivers. | ||
| Timex Ironman Triathlon Digital Heart Rate Monitor Watch 5C401 | ||

| I wanted an HRM that did just one thing: told me what me heart rate was. I don't need to recall anything, or download anything, or to know my heart's recovery time, or to time laps; just give me a device to do what it is supposed to do, do it well, and do it simply. I have had both Garmin and Polar HRMs which have worked well enough but had many more bells an whistles than I would ever use, and only added what was, for me, unnecessary and unwanted complexity. This Timex is perfect for what it is: a heart rate monitor. I like the fact that I can chose the display mode, either having the time in large digits, with the heart rate smaller, or display heart rate in large digits, with the time smaller, or just the heart rate.
The transmitter is the familiar chest strap, just wet the contacts and put it on. The transmitter transmits reliably and the monitor receives the signal no matter where or how far away my wrist is. Another feature that I like, and was the final deal maker, is that I can change the transmitter's battery myself. No messing around sending it back to the factory which means having to pay for shipping and handling and doing without the monitor for however long it takes. Overall, the device is simplicity itself and does a great job.

| To quote a five star reviewer, "...the Oregon 400t is the most versatile, customizable, and flexible handheld GPS I have seen." I agree completely. In addition to its GPS capabilities it has a barometer, a compass, the ability to add a heart rate monitor and cadence capabiity, and will even tell you the tides and the best times to hunt and fish! It also has the nicest touchscreen since the iPhone. Unfortunately, it is the most inaccurate GPS I have ever used, never coming closer than 70 feet to the actual location. This makes it virtually useless for geocaching.
Since it comes with pre-loaded topo maps (with 3d view) and a 16 hour battery life, it would be perfect for a backpacker. Accuracy is not nearly as critical for that application. However, it's not much use in a car, since it lacks voice (which you think could be added when used with the optional car kit, as is the case with my old, old Street Pilot 2820), and, although weatherproof, the screen is too small to use on a motorcycle. It would be okay for a bicycle but perfectly adequate bike GPSs can be found for a lot less money. I had really high hopes for it, but due to the fact that it is more inaccurate than any other GPS I have ever owned I returned mine after giving it a really fair trial of daily use for two weeks.
| Panasonic KX-TGA101S Dect 6.0 Cordless Telephone Additional Handset - Silver | ||
![]() | "Best, least expensive." | 2009-05-17 |
| This is the best and the least expensive cordless phone set I have ever owned. One handset and an answering machine cost about the same as one handset of my old Panasonic setup. Compared to the old set, which was state of the art at the time I bought it several years ago, this set has longer battery life, more easily obtainable, relatively cheaper batteries, and longer range. I can't say enough good things about it, so I won't. | ||
| HP C7280 Photosmart All In One Printer | ||
![]() | "Best HP for me so far" | 2009-04-29 |
| I originally bought this A-I-O thinking I was going to get a $100 rebate. It turns out I had misread the terms of the offer and the rebate didn't happen. Neverthless, I am glad I got it to replace the cranky HP C6280, for which the software was nothing but trouble. There are several things about this device I particularly like. 1. It prints on two sides. Slowly, because it stops to let the first side dry before printing the second, but this feature saves stacks and stacks of paper due to the way I use it. 2. The ink is pigment rather than dye based, which means that photos are going to last MUCH longer. 3. It works without jamming, and the software works, unlike the C6280. It is possible to print and scan wirelessly, reliably. Reliable, that is, after three 1 hour calls to India to sort out why the software suddenly decided that the printer was off-line when it was not. I don't know why the first two techs didn't come up with the permenant fix that number three did, but all is well, finally. The single thing I don't like about it is that the paper tray holds only 50 sheets. That's pretty standard, but still can be a pain. That it prints on both sides does make this limitation less of a burden, though. My faith in HP has been restored, and I am a 100% happy user. | ||

![]() | "Printer is fine, software is flakey." | 2009-01-16 |
| I have been using this AIO wirelessly for about 6 months now. As far as the print, copy and fax functions go I have no complaints. I have gone through two magenta cartridges, but have not had to replace any of the other cartridges, so for my use, the ink use is acceptable. Admittedly I print mostly in black and white, with the odd web page in color. I have printed very few photos. The ones that I have printed turned out just fine. I only used the scan function once. All I know is that the unit can scan one page to a JPEG file. I have not tried multiple page scans, nor tried to go to other than the JPEG format (I have a Canon scanner at school that lets me output multiple-page PDF files, which I do not think this scxanner will do). A big flaw initially was in the software. The unit would work for a few days after I installed the drivers, and then just stop. To get it working again, I had to reinstall the drivers. This drove me nuts until I installed the dirvers for the Photosmart 7200 series. I have had no problems since. I have a new Photosmart 7280 which I got before I got the driver problem straightened out, but now that the 6180 is working I see no reason to go to the trouble to set it up. As nearly as I can tell, the ony difference between the 6180 and the 7280 is that the latter can print on two sides of the page. When I need that capability I find it just as easy to go to Kinkos to have the document printed on two sides and bound at a reasonable cost. So, although the unit itself is just fine--five stars--I knocked off a star for the months of hassle I had with the drivers. | ||
| SimpleTech SP-U35/500 SimpleDrive 500 GB 3.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive designed by Pininfarina | ||
![]() | "DOA--what more can I say?" | 2008-07-16 |
| $265 for something that's dead out of the box? Decidedly not cool. Admittedly, it only took three emails to SimpleTech's tech support to get an RMA. Now I can look forward to the adventure of getting it replaced in some reasonable time frame. Given the other 18 (so far) one star reviews, I should have spent my money on another manufacturer's offering. | ||

| I have sensitive skin and shaving with even an electric razor irritates it. This product does indeed allow the razor to "glide," and makes for a much more comfortable shave. It does not leave any residue, either, leaving the face feeling clean and smooth. I recommend it. | ||
