| Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water | ||
![]() | "Excellent Scale" | 2009-01-23 |
| If you want the best scale out there then get this one. I've owned 2 of these and on the one it took well over a year for the battery to run out-you can always replace it. The scale measures weight, body fat, your body's water percentage and gives you the daily caloric intake you need to maintain the weight you're at.. Also has a feature that tells you if you're within healthy weight range. O means healthy, + means over-fat and the - is underweight. As far as the body fat, the body fat moniter works by sending a low level pulse throught the body and measuring all the content. It's very easy to use and allows multiple people in your family to use and program their own information into the scale specifically for themselves. All you do is put your height in and age and then step on the scale. It will remember you. There's about four buttons, you just chose one and that's your number. The middle button on the scale is just for weight only, if you would prefer just that instead. I found this scale to be very helpful and much more accurate and reliable than the typical everday scales. The body water and body fat are a good feature to have and i'd rather know that than just the weight. Also the plus indictators and healthy weight range feature is excellent. I highly recommend this scale. | ||

He's told that once on House Arrest he may start to lose it and he's warned that if he takes his ankle bracelet off or goes too far from the house he will be arrested. His mom decides it would be best to take away all of his privileges. He becomes bored, gets some binoculars and soon he starts to notice strange happenings taking place in the neighborhood. After spying for awhile he gets the feeling the next door neighbor may just be a serial killer... In the midst of all this he comes across a girl who lives next door, who he soon becomes friendly with and she along with Kale's best friend end up trying to solve the mystery of the killer next door. During all this you aren't really sure if he's just going crazy or if the neighbor is really a killer. I really enjoyed this film. I thought it was suspenseful and it kept me interested and on the edge of my seat till the very end. It was a good thriller and dosen't disappoint. Highly Recommended. 4.5 stars.

| The House on the Edge of the Park | ||
![]() | "Creepy and Gritty Exploitation Horror at it's Finest" | 2008-09-14 |
| Ruggero Deodato's "House on the Edge of the Park" is a gritty low budget home invasion terror that really gets under your skin and sticks with you. This reminded me of the movie Funny Games, but 18+ years earlier. It's an exploitation horror film and it's a good one at that. The movie begins with Alex, a rapist and murderer cruising down a desolate highway in New York looking for a victim. He spots a lone woman driving in her car and then proceeds to run her off the road where he begins to rape her. She soon meets a horrible fate as some strange melodic song plays in the background to enhance the effect of the terror. After the ensuing chaos, Fast forward to the car repair shop that Alex and his friend Ricky run out of a seedy underground garage. As these 2 are ready to go out to get their groove on ( it's 1979), a more upscale couple pulls into the garage to get their car fixed. As these 2 start negotiating with Alex and Ricky you can tell Alex is up to no good and you think at that point he may lose it. He just seems like that kind of guy. You know there's something wrong with him but you can't put your finger on it. After speaking a little more in depth to the couple Alex finds out they are going to a party that night. Alex decides to invite himself, along with his friend Ricky. Before taking off Alex remembers to get his torture utensils to bring along to the party. They soon arrive at the house where 3 other party guests are waiting. They start to party and the film becomes somewhat slow until Alex's true motives finally surface. You can sense the underlying hostility and dominant personality in this guy and then the audience gets to sees his true colors finally come out during a game of poker. He starts forcing the guests to do humiliating acts and holding them hostage. Alex plays a great villian and is very believable as he's taunting the guests while singing cute little songs at the same time. The ending was a real suprise. It had a twist and you are glad what happens to Alex at the finale. This is a film that goes all out and doesn't disappoint. In your face, somewhat shocking and another triumph for the Director. Highly Recommended to any horror fan. | ||

| The Descent | ||
![]() | "Different Kind of Horror" | 2008-04-04 |
| The Descent centers around a group of 5 girls who go off on a venture to a cave. While down in the cave they end up getting stuck and encounter a group of blind alien-like creatures who eat humans and animals. From there a huge fight between the creatures and the girls ensues as each one tries to save the other and escape with their lives and find a way out of the cave. I liked the characters in this movie and thought it was well acted. The ending was a little confusing and some of the things done didnt really warrant the punishments. Intense, somewhat scary and different, it was a good horror movie but it's no classic. | ||
| The Amityville Horror | ||
![]() | "Good but not believable" | 2008-04-04 |
| Amityville Horror is a supposed true story that centers around a family who buy a new home. They think the house is being invaded by spirits of a murdered family who died there years before. Despite the fact of them finding out about the murder and being harrassed by ''demons'' they decide to stay and the chaos ensues. As far as this being a true story.. Whatever happened in that house could be attributed to common occurences or freak incidents- How would a car accident or a cut on a priests hand have anything to do with spirits or demonic possession? They are trying to put a supernatural spin on things that are not out of the ordinary occurences. So the fact that a family died here just gives more of an excuse to attribute regular occurences to something supernatural. The people in this story could have made something out of nothing, been freaked out by the fact a family was killed there or the father could of been mentally ill. Everything else that happened was no proof of a ghost.. They could of made it all up. Other than that, This was a pretty good movie. If you want to see a good/decent horror movie then you should buy it but stick with the original and pass on the re-make. 3.5 stars. | ||
| Man Bites Dog | ||
![]() | "Violent Satire" | 2008-04-04 |
| Man Bites Dog is an odd movie about a camera crew who follows around a serial killer and his friends. It's filmed in black and white and it's one of those films that breaks the fourth wall.. It's like they took a video camera and started filming a mental case and the audience gets to watch as he goes from nice guy to killer. Around his family hes nice and when alone and around his friends hes psycho. As far as it being disturbing its about a 7-8 out of 10. Some parts were deeply disturbing, others funny. It's hard to imagine how anything could be funny in a movie like this but they managed to mix disturbing with humor. One scene will have you laughing, another will have you shaking your head. I really couldn't say what I liked or didnt like about this film. It didn't strike me as anything great yet it wasn't terrible. If it was anything it was definitely out of the norm. The whole thing is in French. Do not get this if you have a weak stomach. Its very graphic. | ||

![]() | "Difficult Read" | 2008-04-04 |
| This book was translated from old French. It was in English but I could barely make sense of it and i'm into these kinds of books. I don't know whether it was his style that I didn't like or it was just plain hard to read. Could be because it was written so long ago. This book has words from the 1500's that no one uses anymore. The book discusses the soul and the body. Physics, Astronomy , Medicine and Science. This is 100 pages of heavy stuff. If you are very patient, interested in Philosophy and very smart you may like this book.. | ||

| Plot: A young married couple goes on vacation. When they arrive in the Bahamas they decide to go on a scuba-diving adventure. While off diving the crew forgets them. They end up getting left out in the ocean in shark infested waters. As they wait and try to struggle to live you get to see the interactions between the characters and what they do in a life or death situation. Imagine knowing you were most likely going to die or get eaten by sharks and not be able to do anything about it. Just float and wait, Hoping someone would come find you. This movie Looks like someone took a regular video camera and just started recording. At first I did not like the way this was filmed and the sound quality wasn't that great. During the first 20 minutes I wasn't liking it but as the movie progressed it got better and better. It's a simple story with a deeper message. A message about life and the human spirit. Overall, It was an interesting movie. 3.5 stars. | ||
| The Secret Language of Birthdays: Personology Profiles for Each Day of the Year | ||
![]() | "Best Book on Astrology" | 2008-03-13 |
| This is the greatest book you will ever read or buy on Horoscopes and Astrology. All my friends wanted to borrow this and some aren't even big into horoscopes. It has been used and borrowed till it has fallen apart by myself and everyone I know.
It covers everything you can imagine from the stars, planets, Astrology, and contains every aspect of Horoscopes and Birthdays with a 2 page personality profile for every day of the year. We read these to eachother and it was funny how correct it was. It really goes into specifics and also lists your strengths and weaknesses, the name of the day you were born and the charactertistic that stands out about it, Famous people born on the day, health, love, tarot card, numbers and more. Its a large book but it's easy to read and every page will keep you interested. It's fun to look up all your family n friends birthdays and see if it relates to the person. This isn't silly stuff like regular horoscope books, this is the real deal and this is about the best it gets when it comes to Astrology. Even a skeptic I know had fun with it. Highly Recommended.
| Portable Nietzsche | ||
![]() | "Portable and easy to read Nietzsche" | 2008-03-13 |
| First let me start by saying this is a lot easier to read than 'Beyond Good and Evil' and 'Thus Spake'. These are the edited and translated works of Nietzsche. They make a lot more sense when you cut out all the melodrama and histrionics. It's less harsh than the other books and I actually agreed with a lot of his ideas. I found it to be more interesting than the few other books i've read by Nietzsche due to it being a more eclectic mix of Neitsche's works and easier to understand.
This book contains many of his works such as 'Twilight of the Idols, Thus Spake, Nietzsche Contra Wagner, and the Antichrist'. Also mentions the Geneology of Morals, The Wagner Case and Nietzsche's opinions on Plato, Socrates and Schopenhauer. There were some great quotes in here. He actually had a good argument for Christianity in this one but by the time we get to the Antichrist you can sense Nietzsche is starting to lose it. Other than that it's a great book and I recommend it to anyone interested in Nietzsche's works.
| The Ethics of Ambiguity | ||
![]() | "The Ethics of Ambiguity" | 2008-03-13 |
| Existence.. it's meaning is never fixed, it must constantly be won. This book examines Existence and it's meaning in a humans life. French Philosopher Simone De Beauvoir talks of Nihilism, Surrealism, Existentialism, Objectivity, and a persons ethics and values in life. Beauvoir also tries to resolve some problems Sartre had with trying to work out Existentialist Ethics. Also discusses recognizing your own freedom and taking charge of your life.
Despite being shorter than most Philosophy books this is by no means a cakewalk to read. Its a challenging book but it will force you to think. It is brilliant. This is Philosophy at its finest.
| Beyond Good and Evil : Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future (Dover Thrift Editions) | ||
![]() | "Completely Overrated" | 2008-01-11 |
| Abstract open ended type of book with Nietzsche's opinions and beliefs on good and evil. Opinions on 'slave morality', philosophy, the will to power with a little bit of history thrown in the mix.
There were some great quotes in here that I did agree with. Then we come towards the middle of the book that contains the maxims and interludes part and all goes wrong... There were some things in here I extremely disagreed with... regarding women. Where he came up with this I have no idea but it was completely off base... I can see how many parts of this book could be misinterpreted and used in the wrong way. He talks about individuality but the truth is this is for people who need to be told what to think. If you think like Nietzsche thinks- you are 'better'- he has the mentality of a nazi. This book is not as dramatic as Zarathustra but it's close. I think he feels if he stresses his point enough maybe you will believe him. This book is the opposite of religion yet the same- on the other end of the spectrum. The bottom line is these are HIS opinions and shouldn't be taken as truth or fact. It's not a completely bad book though I disagree with most and wouldn't take it too seriously- its a pretentious piece of work.

| This is the DVD 'The Iceman' which features 3 parts.
1.Conversations with a Killer 2.The Iceman: Secrets of a Mafia Hitman 3.The Iceman and the Psychiatrist which the other DVD dosen't have on it. This is a documentary that features different people interviewing Richard Kuklinski as he describes his life and crimes. One interview is from around 1991 and the other was taped in 2001. Both are very good and an eye-opening look at anti-social personality disorder... You get to hear Richard Kuklinski giving first hand accounts of life story and contract killings over the years. He describes in a very matter of fact way about his childhood and career as a contract murderer. This basically covers it all. We hear from him about his dysfunctional early home life, his murders, his family and his life with the mafia. We also get to hear about the friend Kuklinski trusted who ended up setting him up and aiding in his capture. This is the better of the iceman DVD's because it features the interview with the psychologist which was very interesting. These were good interviews and a truly interesting and disturbing look into the mind of Richard Kuklinski. Highly Recommended.

| This is the HBO home video DVD- 'Confessions of a Mafia Hitman'. It's a documentary that features different people interviewing Richard Kuklinski as he describes his life and crimes. Part 1 is from 1992 and part 2 is from 2001. Both are very interesting and a firsthand look at anti-social personality disorder... Over the span of these years between interviews Richard seemed to have gotten worse. He talks so matter of factly about his crimes and seems pretty honest about everything he's done though he claims most were just for business purposes. We get to see there is more to this story and hear from him about his dysfunctional early home life, his murders, his family and his life with the mafia. We also get to hear about the one friend Kuklinski trusted who ended up setting him up and turning him in. There's 2 iceman DVD's available and this one has about the same information in it as the other one. Slightly different camera angles between them but for the most part they were pretty much the same material other than the other DVD having some extra information with a psychiatrist which was better in my opinion. The other DVD 'The Iceman Interviews' has the one with the psychiatrist which is the only reason I prefer it to this DVD. Other than that these were good interviews and a truly interesting and disturbing look into the mind of Richard Kuklinski. 4.5 stars. | ||

| The movie beings with 2 sisters, Jane and Jackie, who also happen to be serial killers. These two sisters have been released from psychiatric care and have a hatred for men. Years ago they had an encounter with a group of guys and they ended up killing their sister. Now they want revenge, On all men.
One is more on a mission than the other and the other sister ends up meeting this guy and having feelings for him and Jane 'the meaner sister' wants him out of the picture. From there It becomes even funnier.. These were women serial killers going around picking off men. They were really good at it too. It was as convincing as the males but it was humorous at the same time. I was cracking up so much throughout this film. It was much more funny than scary. If you are looking for something completely weird, laugh out loud funny with some horror in it you should see this. It's good cheap entertainment.

While at the theater a Film Memorobilia expert shows her and her friends an Eerie 60's cult movie called 'Possessor'- It just so happens that the director of the film was a madman who years ago burned down the theater and locked the audience inside... It also turns out the film and her dream have some sort of connection.
The students begin the night by playing old 1950's horror movies for the Audience...They are all having a great time but when the movies begin strange things start to happen. Somewhere in the theater there's a masked killer who wants the students dead. This all goes on while the audience is in the theater watching the movies. It's a fun movie that has some a somewhat nostalgic vibe, inventive killings and a decent story. Popcorn is definitely one of the better horror films of the 90's.
