 | Michael Crichton: A New Collection of Three Complete Novels |
 | "Great books, crappy paper." | 2009-08-07 |
I don't like the paper this book was printed on, and the cover art on the dust jacket is lackluster. Those things don't hurt my enjoyment of the novels contained within, though.

 | The Vile Village |
 | ""It's cool to love this book."" | 2009-08-02 |
Funny, cute and imaginative. If only the books weren't so expensive, they'd be perfect. That aside, I love this series. I'm liking each book more and more, with Books 6 and 7 (this one) being my favorites so far.

 | Goodkind #2 |
 | "Good book, though repetitive." | 2009-07-25 |
As of this writing, I am in the middle of Confessor, the last of this series. Chainfire started off intriguing, then got repetitive with Richard constantly trying to convince people Kahlan exists. Luckily, the finale is good.

 | "A great listen." | 2009-05-25 |
Beltrami impressed me with his action cues (I love Hearse Rent a Car) and it was cool of him to provide a orchestral rendition of the original Brad Fiedel theme, unlike Mr. Elfman with his "Salvation" score.
|
 | Mark Snow - The X-Files: Original Motion Picture Score |
 | "Great, but mastered incorrectly." | 2009-05-16 |
I really liked the music on this album--it's a great mixture of synth and orchestra--but my copy is messed up. The right and left channels are mixed (trumpets come from left channel and strings from right). I've heard enough scores and seen the movie itself enough times to know the channels are reversed. Whenever I listen to this score, I wear my headphones backwards just to fix the problem.
|
 | Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Year 6 |
 | "Good, but my least favorite in the series." | 2009-05-15 |
For a long time, Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite book, but over the years, that book has grown on me. Half-Blood Prince still has problems. It doesn't have as many interesting locations as Book 5, and not much happens in this one. The book is by no means boring, but it could have used more stuff. Why else would the filmmakers add so many significant things to the film version (more than the other films)? Because the book was lacking, of course.

 | Stone of Tears |
 | "I couldn't put it down." | 2009-05-09 |
Is there a rule stating that the second installment in a fantasy series HAS TO deal with the hero going through training? There's The Empire Strikes back and Eldest (Eragon 2), and then there's Stone of Tears. They all follow the same track. Either way, I loved the book. Goodkind is quite good at establishing a scene so that I feel like I'm there.

 | Soul of the Fire |
 | "Beware of Chicken-thing!" | 2009-03-12 |
I agree with a lot of the reviews for this book: The Haken/Ander subplot is boring as hell. I can't stand politics, and this book is all about politics. But I love the first few chapters of the book. They were as hilarious as they were terrifying. And boy was I happy when Fitch died, that annoying little bastard.

 | Batman - Mask of the Phantasm |
 | "Excellent music." | 2009-03-08 |
Shirley Walker truly was a master composer. I've listened to this score many times and it still surprises me. The sound quality is a little iffy (numerous popping sounds due to analog source material, I'm guessing) but it's not at all distracting.

 | The Golden Compass |
 | "The best in the trilogy, but that's not saying much." | 2008-09-28 |
This book was pretty good, with some fairly imaginative parts to it, but I wouldn't consider it a classic by any means. Unfortunately, the other two books in the trilogy are not good at all. I would recommend either reading just this book, or not reading any of them. They only get worse from here.

 | The Spiderwick Chronicles: Lucinda's Secret by Tony Diterlizzi, ISBN 0689859384 |
 | "Good music, bad sound quality." | 2008-09-21 |
I've never been a big fan of Simon Rhodes as a recording engineer, and this score suffers from some bad mixing. It could've used a little more sharpness. As it is, it sounds flat. Other than that, the music is decent, though the blaring rip-off of "Casper's Lullaby" in some of the tracks is distracting.

 | John Williams - The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack |
 | "Great alternate take on the JP franchise." | 2008-09-11 |
John Williams is a genius, and his take on this film (as opposed to the first) is brilliant. The famous JP theme is used sparingly, and the inclusion of a more jungle-like quality definitely makes for a unique listening experience.

 | The Stand |
 | "So long, and with such a disappointing ending." | 2008-08-26 |
I love long books, but this one is so long, and requires so much time to read it, that the ending was just way too much of a let-down.
|
 | It (Signet Books) |
 | "Long and scary." | 2008-08-26 |
When I went to the checkout counter to buy this book, the clerk said, "Oh, this book is great up until the last 70 or so pages." I kinda agree; the ending is a little out there, but everything that led up to it is great.

 | Wizard and Glass |
 | "Series Takes Huge Step Backwards, Literally and Figuratively." | 2008-08-25 |
I really enjoyed The Waste Lands (Book 3), but I found this book nearly impossible to finish. It felt like filler, not really adding anything interesting to the series. I felt like the book was going backwards when it should have been going forward.
