| You Can Write a Romance ... and Get It Published: And Get It Published | ||
![]() | "A Must Have for Romance Writers" | 2009-09-25 |
| The author has written at least 3 dozen novels (many Harlequin books under pseudonyms... plus she was a literary agent.
She gives tips on how to add sizzle to your work--how to use cliff hangers, how to include details... how to query, how to write the synopsis, how to format your manuscript, etc. The book is an easy read from an author who knows what she's talking about. ***I got this book a long time ago, and I'm re-reading it again--it would be nice to have a new updated version.***

![]() | "Learning A Lot!" | 2009-09-25 |
| I've started studying German six months ago, starting from scratch--I'm taking Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, Berlitz and I went to an immersion class in Germany for a few weeks, I've been watching movies in German... etc and now this book--I read the words into my computer with their meanings and then play it back and my mind retains the info. It's great the way the words are arranged into themes, it makes it easier for me to recall when my mind can group them like that (e.g. school supplies: ruler, books, pencils, etc.)
Last night, I was watching a movie in German and this time, without subtitles in German, and I could understand what they were saying. It's pretty exciting and I know this book (I'm about half way reading and recording it to my computer) is helping me learn/understand/remember many of the words normally used in every day conversations. It's a helpful book, and for the price, it's excellent!
| The Big Yellow Book of German Verbs (Big Books Series) | ||
![]() | "Sehr Gut!" | 2009-09-23 |
| If you're studying German, learning the verbs and their correct conjugations is so important.
Here, you get 555 verbs with about 12 different tenses conjugations, commands and sample usage. There are also some verb exercises in the back, an index of irregular verbs, and all the verbs... plus a CD rom with more exercises. All that and it's inexpensive... sehr, sehr gut! It may be a little 'huge' to carry around though...

![]() | "Nothing New" | 2009-09-22 |
| When someone in your life was suffering, you'd like to get any info that could heal them. That's why we got this book in the first place. But there was nothing new here, eat vegetables, stay away from salt and sodium, etc.
There are a few nuances though, such as stay away from dairy products, soy products, avocados, cucumbers, beans--I always felt that you can't go wrong when you go with nature and eat what nature has provided, so these no-no's did not make sense, especially when you're trying to increase the immune system. They also wanted that you overcook your vegetables--this too did not ring true for me. If these ring true to you, they you'd probably like this book. If it didn't, then don't get this book.

![]() | "Clint is always Charming" | 2009-09-21 |
| I love Clint Eastwood movies... he's charming in this one too.
The plot reminds me of one of those romantic Westerns. (I'd like to say something more about the plot though--it got a little silly at times and somethings didn't make much sense, such as when/how did he fall in-love with Sondra Locke's character?) But I felt the character of Sondra Locke was too annoying--mean spirited and annoying. I couldn't like her character even when she changed. It's not one of my favorite Clint Eastwood film, if you like Clint Eastwood in a comedy, perhaps you'd enjoy Space Cowboys better.

![]() | "Fun Especially for a Beatles Fan" | 2009-09-14 |
| Play Beatles songs on Rock Band... fun combination... you can play the guitar, drums, and/or sing to it--it's great... especially if you're a Beatles Fan (my husband is, I'm so-so, he's been playing this every day... I sing and play from time to time, I'm glad we can use the mics from LIPPS (that other XBox singing game that's awful, bad, bad, bad so I'm glad we can use the mics from that).
Good graphics, good songs, if you go on a tour, you get to go to the tours that the Beatles themselves went through... good buy! Hopefully, we can get good deals when buying more Beatles songs to play...

![]() | "Mistakes with Articles!" | 2009-09-08 |
| I'm an adult, learning German and I felt a fun book like this with pictures to help me remember the nouns would be a lot easier to learn from than just plain text to read.
It is that, it's good to see the picture and associate that along with the English meaning. The problem is on a few occassions (about 3) the articles were wrong. The book said the noun was a 'der' when it was a 'die' and so forth. This was huge to me because when learning German nouns, you must know the right article in order to use them in sentences correctly.

![]() | "Like Pimsleur" | 2009-04-26 |
| This gets you straight into speaking and understanding German. It starts with easy dialogue which at first may seem impossible to learn but quickly, you'll get it in a few minutes because this breaks it down word per word.
Fast, effective, I love this practice. Practical too. It's good it's audio because you can hear how it should be said.

| Shows how beautiful and peaceful Italy is. Beautiful beaches, not for swimming but for looking out and just relaxing, getting inspired. The place is poetic. The story has depth. When I'm studying and practicing my Italian, I will definitely be watching this over and over to study the language. | ||

| To really learn German fast and efficiently (just the way I like it:), I am simultaneously listening to and practicing with Rosetta Stone Version 3: German Level 1, 2 & 3 Set with Audio CompanionV3, Pimsleur German I, II and III (Comprehensive) with Audiofy USB Reader (Audiofy Digital Audiobook Chips), Mostly Martha (and other movies in German), this Berlitz Rush Hour, and others, and I'm really enjoying this as one of the best for beginners. There's a story going on between the characters, so in a way, you're motivated to keep listening to find out what will happen and how the story ends. It covers the basics to say at home, at work, when travelling, eating out, etc. It's for beginners so there will be some English dialogue that makes it easier to learn the German sentences. The German sentences are also put into songs, which makes me remember them easier. I like this and I'm looking for something Intermediate since I'm close to memorizing/learning every word and phrases on this one. | ||

| Interesting story, the plot line isn't the usual build up and then kapow! this one has lots of twists and turns. If you like The Outlaw Josey Wales you'll probably like this one. I wish you can choose different languages though (I'm learning French, German, Spanish and Italian at the moment and would love to watch this in another language as well) and subtitles to choose from would be wonderful! | ||

![]() | "A Must See, A Must Have" | 2009-03-25 |
| Oh, so that's what they meant about swimming with the fishies. This movie is so embedded in our culture that you find references and allusions to it every where. It's a must see, or go through life not knowing what going to the mattresses mean or the importance of "keep your friends close and your enemies closer," Marlon Brando's talent, Coppola's, Al Paccino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, James Caan, etc. Also, I liked the DVD, looked clear and finely remastered to me. But sure, if they can do better, why not :) | ||

![]() | "A Must See, A Must Have..." | 2009-03-25 |
| If you saw The Godfather Part II - The Coppola Restoration and The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration, you have to see this Godfather III. I was reading some of the reviews and some didn't feel this lived up to I and II. What helps me like this movie is the fact that I watched them one after the other and didn't wait almost 2 decades to watch this third installment. So, no expectations, I watched it and loved it. I do understand about the Sophia Coppola's character though, not meeting expectations. If her character was more likeable, more sympathetic (she seemed like a rich, spoiled kid who enjoyed seducing relatives and having sex with her cousin in her parent's house while her father's only a few doors down the hallway!) the ending could have been more powerful. | ||

| The Genie Within: Your Subconcious Mind--How It Works and How to Use It | ||
![]() | "Terrific Book!" | 2009-03-21 |
| The explanations are easy to understand, easy to grasp. This is very helpful in harnessing the power of the subconscious.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the misspelled words in page xi and the very few times the story sounded jagged. I have recently finished editing my novel so I'm sensitive to these editing mistakes at the moment. On the next edition, they can fix this. (In case the author ever reads this review, what I did with my novel was to read it to a tape recorder as if I'm telling the story to someone and you'll hear if the sentences flow or not). Anyway, thanks for this helpful book!
| Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Poetry | ||
![]() | "Covers All the Basics And More!" | 2009-03-04 |
| Very good book in understanding, reading and writing poetry. I say it helps with understanding and reading poetry because this explains, for instance, why different poems are structured differently. Some rhyme, others do not. It explains what a good poem contains: imagery, metaphor...
It teaches you about different poems out there: an aubade, a sonnet, a haiku, etc There are also many exercises. Good book, very good purchase. I also like The Everything Writing Poetry Book: A Practical Guide To Style, Structure, Form, And Expression (Everything: Language and Literature)

| It's a good material, parts of it that I have checked though, I have already read in other books such as Folk Medicine: A New England Almanac of Natural Health Care From A Noted Vermont Country Doctor. I wish it has other info on healing the eyes that aren't pretty much quoted from other books. | ||
