Tales of Destiny 2Tales of Destiny 2
Rated 4 Stars"A Great Addition For Namco's Popular Series." 2002-07-15
Tales of Destiny II, or in Japan's eyes as Tales of Eternia, follows the story of Reid Hershel and Farrah Oersted as they go on a quest to save the world from colliding, all thanks to a mysterious girl who crashes outside Rashean's, their home village.

Without going into major detail about the story of this game, which is better left untold until you play it, I'll give you some background instead.

Tales of Destiny II was changed when it was localized to English from Tales of Eternia.

Tales of Phantasia was released on Super Nintendo and Playstation on Japan, and in my opinion, was the best. Unfortunately, this never made a stateside release and I don't think ever will, although there are rumors of a GameBoy Advance port, and there is a new one coming for GameCube as well, which doesn't follow the story of the first one.

Tales of Destiny, which did come to the US was my second favorite, mainly due to the innovation involved with it. Sentient swords with elements were a cool idea. It wasn't as popular in the US as it was in Japan and had some choppy cuts and such.

Tales of Eternia (or Tales of Destiny II) came out in Japan released as ToE, because no Tales of... game ever has the same name because they are all different stories. It was released as Tales of Destiny II in the US, which was a fatal mistake from Namco, because ToD 1 and ToD 2 are not intertwined at all. And now that Namco has released a sequel to Tales of Destiny named Tales of Destiny II in Japan, there is going to be a really big problem if that is localized.

Tales of Destiny II was my least favorite of the three, I didn't really like the whole plot as much, and the characters sorta bored me. But the graphics, for being sprites, were upgraded rather nicely from the last game, and there is a lot to do in this game. The battle system is the absolute best thing about it, and even though the voices can get irritating, I think Namco knew as such because you can turn them off if necessary.

If you like the other two games, you'll love ToD2, and if you're bored and looking for an RPG, rent or buy Tales of Destiny or Tales of Destiny 2...believe me, you'll get hooked.

The Slayers DVD Collection, Volumes 1-8The Slayers DVD Collection, Volumes 1-8
Rated 5 Stars"Just As Good As Everyone Said It Was:" 2002-06-15
Starting to get bored with my selections of Sailormoon and Gundam Wing DVD collections, I realized it was time to get a new anime. I browsed review after review. It came down to Fushigi Yugi and Slayers.

Despite what the person said about it having a terrible audio glitch, there was none in this. That would be why it is called the "Specil Remastered Edition". The picture on the top of this page are inaccurate. There is a small text imprint on the upper left that says, "Now With Remastered Audio". I don't really care for dubs, especially after Sailormoon, so I'm a sub only guy.

To start out with, the DVD menu's are really nice, no transition from page to page, but colorful. I had no audio problem with it at all, and that was my top concern.

Slayers starts out sort of weird, but progresses quite quickly into a blossoming series. With all the new extra features in the Special Edition (theres nothing else really different in it), its really worth it. I especially liked the Art Gallery and Interviews.

I don't know if they brought these reviews over from the old Slayers set, but the one that says DVD Collection Special Edition is the one you want. It has more to it than the old one, and has redone audio.

And if you look up the company's site, you'll soon learn that if you have a AUDIO DEFECTIVE problem, that they will replace it for free. (minus shipping, you just send in the discs) and they send a new set, so either way you're getting what you want.

If you want a great alternative, and one of the most comedic animes I've ever seen, try Slayers out, you'll love it.

Even though I own all of the current day systems (Gamecube, Xbox, Playstation, Playstation 2, Game Boy Advance), I really wanted this for some reason.

I gave my old PS to my little brother, and went out and bought this exact thing from my [local store].

I was immediately impressed with that I saw (next to the hideous green color of the box). The system and the LCD screen licensed by Sony came already connected, so you don't have to hassle with it to attach it; it already is. Above all, the screen that comes with it is the official one licensed by Sony, which is the only one I'd ever use. I've heard horror stories of how the other screens don't work right and burn out.

The screen (Liquid Crystal Display) is the best I've ever seen. For only about 5", I had absolutely no problem even playing my RPG's like Final Fantasy VII and Tales of Destiny in it. If you're worried about visibility, don't be, because you can adjust the contrast, and the speakers, although small, provide an impressive display of sound.

The headphone jack in the back is nice to plug in a headset and play without disturbing anyone. The LCD screen, shuts snugly and firmly over the lid of the PSone. I didn't believe how small the PSone was, but now that I have one, it really is amazing how tiny it is, yet how strong it is.

The only fault I see in this package is two things: For one, the cord that plugs into the wall is short in my opinion, which limits your mobility substantially unless you have the battery pack, which, too, is sold separately.

The other problem is that the car adaptor, alas, does not come with this package. I have had a hard time finding one up here, but I live in Upper Michigan, so it's hard to find anything up here. The car adaptor would've been a nice extra for this package, but would've boosted it's price up ..., which it retails for.

Overall, if you're not ready to buy a PS2 or GameCube (which also has a screen available), and you're looking for a nice system with power for someone, this is a nice choice. And if you don't want the LCD screen, you can purchase the PSone only for a nice [price], which is a nice buy as well, but I'm very happy with this LCD screen, it works like a charm. (It can be removed by the way)

Dead or Alive 3Dead or Alive 3
Rated 3 Stars"DOA: Dead On Arrival?" 2001-11-16
Well, I bought an Xbox from Walmart when it first came out, and I bought Dead or Alive III and Halo with it. I love the system and both of the games, (don't get me wrong: Ps2 and GC are great too), but as with most fighting games, Dead or Alive can get EXTREMELY boring after you play it over and over. As a matter of fact, I only bought it because it's a good multi-player game, and so is Halo. The Story Mode is extremely short, I'd say about 7 battles per character, and the endings, although some really good, weren't long and weren't that good, leaving you hanging. Except for Christie's, that is. (You'll understand what I mean there when you see it ;)

If you're looking for a game to show off your Xbox's graphics, or to kick a friends butt in a game, this is the game right now, although, if you're looking for more of a long, enveloping story...I wouldn't recommend it. If they'd have made this game a bit longer, and not so tedious, this game definately wouldn't have my title of Dead on Arrival.

Rated 5 Stars"The Line Between Realism and Animation..." 2001-10-12
I was astounded by the beginning. I won't spoil anything, but Mima's japanese voice along with Yukiko and Rei's match perfectly, and the opening song is just awesome. Throughout the show, there is minimal music, which adds suspense for me, as they aren't trying to cover plot holes with music. To put this story basic, the animation is outstanding...I can't even begin to describe it, the color patterns are really good and the quality, like all DVDs, are crisp and clear. The voices are quite good, although I have yet to listen to the english side.

This whole show is just awesome, and although it's not the movie that would keep me on the edge like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer did, this movie definately made me think of certain things. If you liked Akira, the author/creator of this, I believe teamed up with another famous writer, and "anime"-mized this novel to anime dvd. Perfect Blue, in an essance, was Perfect to me. Being 15, I don't mind some of the things I saw in this, but I wouldn't suggest this to younger audiences, but if you're a fan of psychological chillers...get this. Perfect Blue is definately on the top of my shelf from now on.

The Line Between Realism and Animation is cut in this movie...things like this CAN happen to people, and this isn't just some popular mecha/shoujo anime...this dvd will REALLY get you thinking about life as a celebrity facing ruin.

Ok, I'm not much for survival horror games, as I'm a wussie and I tend to freak out if I'm alone playing them, but this is probably that one, next to Silent Hill, that gave me the most chills.

Claire Redfield, after escaping the infection of Raccoon City, continues to look for her lost brother Chris (from the first one). Two months after getting out of R.C., she stumbles apon a lead that says he could be in Umbrella's Paris Lab. She goes to investigate and gets caught. After being knocked out, she wakes up in a dirty jail cell in an unfamiliar area, just to hear a huge explosion and the lights flutter and shut off. Eventually, after someone works her out of the cell, she runs into a certain familiar creature that we all know and love, but I won't go further than that.

This game has a near perfect storyline, and although the first half of the game you constantly struggle to find herbs and handgun bullets, you'll find yourself using the Combat knive more than you'd like. If you missed the Bowgun like I did, you won't have a chance to get it, so I'm warning you ahead of time. The character's in this game are great, although the voice acting is very tedious (especially Alfred...his laugh scares me more than the zombies).

This game is pretty graphic, and at sometimes, shocks you, so this, as you probably know, wasn't recommended for younger kids. This game comes with the demo to Devil May Cry, which looks like a pretty good game. This is definately worth the buy if you like horror survival games.

Gundam Wing the Movie - Endless Waltz (Special Edition)Gundam Wing the Movie - Endless Waltz (Special Edition)
Rated 5 Stars"Five Shiny Stars For This One..." 2001-08-20
Gundam Wing was always my favorite Gundam series, I liked it due to the plot, characters, and design of the mobile suits. The animation in this series was superb. About this DVD:

POSITIVES:

1.) This DVD offers the OAV (or OVA), meaning Original Video Animation in the three separate parts, as shown on Cartoon Network, only with a few uncut scenes added.

2.) You can choose the Japanese voices with english subtitles or English voices with English subtitles (the wording won't be exact in the english language/subtitles, because the Subtitles allow you to see the dialog they said in Japan) Both languages had a good set of voices, but I love Japanese voices Ü...

3.) You can see the "Movie" version of Endless Waltz (MUCH Better in my eyes)which is longer, and shocked me with tons of scenes that were omitted from the OAV/OVA (the dub too) (This is the BEST part of the DVD)

4.)You can acess trailers, mobile suit data, and other things from the main menu....

Get this DVD...The price is steeper, but it's really worth the buy...

Sailor Moon S - Heart Collection I: TV Series, Vols. 1 & 2 (Uncut)Sailor Moon S - Heart Collection I: TV Series, Vols. 1 & 2 (Uncut)
Rated 5 Stars"The Uncut Series Dominates Again!" 2001-03-19
Although I have seen the uncut and dubbed version of the S series, I have not seen this DVD yet, so I don't know if they cut some scenes in the unedited version (I imagine they did)...

Sailor Moon's S (or Super) series is a continued saga from the R (Romance) episodes.

After the Black Moon (or NegaMoon, if you're a dubbie) was destroyed, the girls (Usagi, Rei, Ami, Makoto, and Minako) start to study for their High School Entrance Exams. (If I'm not mistaken, in the Japanese saga, Rei never had to study, she got into HS without the exams, seeing it was a private school, but she still helps the girls study at her place anyhow) While they are studying, a strange woman appears in a red dress after talking to a strange scientist named Professor (or Doctor) Tomoe with a daimon (the monsters from the S series) that she plants in a tree. Rei, meditating, goes to place a piece of paper (a charm) onto the Charm Tree, and the moment she touches it, the Daimon appears and attacks Rei, extracting a small diamond like crystal from her chest. Usagi (Serena) and Luna hear Rei screaming and she transforms. After an attempt at destroying the monster, Sailor Moon is knocked against a tree, and her brooch is bitten from her chest. It appears Usagi and the other Senshi are in trouble! When out of no where, a sphere of blue and orange lights come from a thick forest, destroying the Daimon. Rei, still laying on the ground, has her heart crystal examined by the strange girls that saved the scouts. She puts the crystal back in and Rei is all better :)! It appears it was a close call this time, but without her power, can Sailor Moon depend on the strength of the two new Senshi (scouts) to defend them!? Get this DVD and FIND OUT!!!

Sailor Moon S The Movie - Hearts in IceSailor Moon S The Movie - Hearts in Ice
Rated 3 Stars"Not as Good as the Original...." 2000-12-22
I'm sorry to all of you that really enjoyed this dubbed movie, but I, myself, did not find it that good. I ordered the Japanese (English Subtitled) version and I found it to be very good, however: This was before the English release of the dub.

THE BAD: 1.)The Voice Actors are terrible, with the exception of Pluto, most of the voices are loud, screechy, and obnoxiously annoying. 2.) The Japanese name pronoucing sounds terrible! (Kakaru sounds like Kangaroo when I hear it!) 3.) They dub a few good scenes out and a few lines. 4.) The lyrics to the music change. and 5.) Two words: Mini Moon (instead of Chibi-Moon, which in my opinion, sounds much more appealing.

THE GOOD: The drawings aren't touched much, except for the shadowing of the cleavage shown during the Transformation.

All in all, if you are a fan of Sailor Moon, please don't buy this one yet. I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest buying the Subtitled one first and then renting the dub to see the difference (you'll be VERY surprised)
