JVC HRS2902 Hi-Fi Stereo Super VHS VCR with RemoteJVC HRS2902 Hi-Fi Stereo Super VHS VCR with Remote
Rated 5 Stars"JVC still makes the best VCRs!" 2005-10-07
Since the DVD rave, I hadn't bought a VCR in YEARS so I decided to go with a JVC becuase the last few VCRs I had owned previously were all JVCs.
The unit is extremely light at only a few pounds, but that's a good thing considering how most older VCRs from the old days were like WEIGHTS.
A S-VHS Hi-Fi VCR like this would have easily costed HUNDREDS back then, so I ain't complaining.
No problems so far, everything works as it should for a VCR of this price range.
TVB dramas play very well on this VCR.
Everything looks and sounds pretty clear.
Even old porn tapes that I have collected from 10-15 years ago will play fine thanks to the "ACTIVE VIDEO CALIBRATION" and "VIDEO STABILIZER" features in this VCR.
I have not yet tried it with an S-VHS tape, so I don't know how it will perform with those.
Perhaps the only thing I don't like about this VCR is that the remote, due to its ultra-slim design; doesn't use standard AA or AAA batteries.
Instead, it uses lithium watch batteries; which are expensive and can be a bitch to replace.
Another minor weakness of this VCR is that it only comes packaged with an RF cable, and no AV hook-up cables whatsoever.
For choice of cabling, I would suggest the Sonicwave S-video with Stereo Audio Interconnect; as it is relatively inexpensive but gives you great value.

Rated 5 Stars"Better than anything SONY could ever offer!!!" 2005-04-02
Over the years, both the PS1 and PS2 came with the SAME EXACT set of crappy stock AV cables included in the box; and that's mighty tired to say the least.

Being the manufacturer of the TOP-SELLING videogame console, it appears that SONY was never really considerate of their customers by offering them with such cheaply-made cables.

I guess they probaly don't care if you use them or not because its really no loss to them... You bought the system already.

Running demos at the E3 or CES with those cables was just plain stupid, as they do not allow for the TRUE graphical pontential of the PS2 hardware and its games.

The cheap tin-plated contacts, unrefined wiring materials, and almost non-existent sheilding on the SONY cables are strictly run-of-the-mill for the most part.

Blurry-ass graphics, bleeding colors, and muffled sound can only result in a very UNIMPRESSIVE gaming experience at best.

Another thing that I can't believe about those stock cables is that they can cost as much as $20-$25 to replace if broken.

For roughly around that price range, I bet you can get some pretty good 3rd-party cables which are still better than SONY's.

I just hope that by the time PS3 rolls around, they won't hook us up with the same set of crappy stock cables that most gamers have suffered with for so many years...

Besides, who the hell would wanna put up with blurry-ass graphics ever again?

The price of these Monster component cables may be slightly expensive, but it's not totally crazy.

It all really depends on what kinda measures you're willing to take up for your personal gaming pleasure.

For the most part, these cables certainly DO provide a SERIOUS upgrade to the overall picture and sound quality of your PS2 games, and that you'll NEVER wanna go back to the SONY cables ever again after using them.

So if you want the BEST, this is it!

In the age of HDTVs and progessive scan DVD players, I definately would NOT recommend this product to be the ideal type of hook-up for your XBOX.

All of the people in here who are telling you that they're getting a GOOD picture quality from this product are just fooling you left and right... Don't be stupid.
Anybody who knows ANYTHING at all about basic electronics at all can tell you that an RF signal causes radio frequency interference; which means these HUGE red and blue diagonal bars that constantly run all over your screen.
Also, because of the fact that you'll be recieving both video and audio signals through the same channel, you'll be getting lots of noise interference (snow) as well.
If you don't get what I mean, then just have someone run the radio, blowdryer, or vacuum cleaner in the house while you're playing your XBOX with these.
And you can just FORGET about Dolby Digital or DTS; for this device not only degrades your picture quality but it also takes away stereo/surround sound and gives you MONO instead, which of course would sound TERRIBLE for XBOX games.

Is THAT really what you want?

For those of you who have been seriously considering to buy these cables, or are skeptical about their quality; I will try to provide as much information as possible in my review below.

I know that these cables are VERY expensive, but they are definately made of very good materials and build quality.
I understand that alot of people out there are probably avoiding these cables like the plague because of the high price tag on these 'cinema-grade' cables.
However, that really depends on how much you are willing to spend on improving your movie-viewing pleasure at home.
If you're looking for a SERIOUS upgrade to the cheap, crappy stock composite RCA cables that came included with your equipment, then I assure you that these are some of the BEST cables that money can buy.
If a manufacturer's stock cables aren't the most CHEAPEST and CRAPPIEST cables on the planet, then the manufacturer probably wouldn't have even given them to you for FREE in the first place, right?
Maybe 20 or so years ago, stock composite RCA cables might have been acceptable to some people; but nowadays nobody in the know can really put up with them anymore because of the increasing demands in digital video technology.
Let's face it; even if you buy a $1,000 DVD player from a brand-name manufacturer, there's absolutely NO WAY in HELL that they're gonna throw in some $100 cables for you.
99% of the time, that's the main reason why you'll have to buy your own cables if you want better quality.
It doesn't take a VIDEOPHILE to tell you that these cables are signifigantly better.
With all the complicated cable science aside, let's just say that these cables act like high-bandwidth conduits that allow a much better a signal flow from your DVD player to your TV.
Note that you actually DO NOT absolutely need to have state-of-the-art, ultra-high-end equipment or even THX-encoded DVDs in order to enjoy the benefits that these cables have to offer.
But if you DO have some really nice powerful equipment; it couldn't hurt either cuz then more power to you!
These cables were specifically designed to MAXIMIZE picture quality by helping you get the most color and sharpness out of pretty much whatever you watch on any component video-compatible equipment.
With that being said, some of the things that I've noticed when watching my movies with these cables now is that all the skintones on people look bolder, their clothes seem much brighter than before, and their hair looks shinier, plus even their EYES look beadier as well.
As far as objects appear to the discerning eye; bright red things (like stoplights) look alot redder, trees look greener and the sky looks much more realistic with a deeper tone of blue.
Yes, the onscreen colors WILL become sort of EYE-GOUGING, but the picture never bleeds or leaks out.
After a while, you'll get used to this 'THX look'.
For example: you can have like two guys standing right next to each other, with one wearing a blaze-orange jacket while the other wears a neon-green jacket, but the colors will never bleed or mix in with each other; even if you turn the color settings on your TV all the way up.
I mean the sharpness is definately there.
Everything on the screen just looks very bright and very defined.
For VCDs, there will be somewhat less pixelation and artifacting, and although the video resolution problems (due to MPEG compression in most VCDs) won't be totally eliminated; everything will still look a helluva lot cleaner and brighter than ever before.
On DVDs, you will no doubt be able to see things alot more clearly and detailed from up both close and afar; especially if your DVD player supports progressive scan.
The overall increase in color and sharpness is undeniable.
You've really gotta see it to believe it.
And don't forget to get the THX Ultra 1000 Audio Interconnects to match if you're also looking to get really good cinema-quality sound!

I hope this review has been helpful to you.
