 | Matrix Analysis |
 | "Matrix Analysis" | 2009-07-22 |
What an uninteresting book! The content of the book may be good, but the style is very dry and boring. It's really abstract and I don't think the problems in the book are very interesting. I would recommend this book as a reference rather than a textbook.

 | Topology (2nd Edition) |
 | "Topology" | 2009-05-30 |
I used this book as a text recently. I thought the general topology concepts in the book were very good. However, having many of the solutions available on the internet took the challenge away from the course. Everyone got As in that class. Perhaps professors should give different problems for homework assignments and use the problems in the text for quizzes, tests or exams.

 | Abstract Algebra: An Introduction |
 | "Undergraduate Abstract Algebra" | 2008-07-17 |
This is a great introduction to abstract algebra. I really like this book and it goes through examples and proofs enough for you to understand even if you have to go back over them again. I have used this book in my undergraduate studies. I highly recommend it and Hungerford's approach is different from most modern algebra texts because he introduces ring theory before group theory. Even if this book is not your text and I am sure it would be good help as a supplementary one. It even has solutions, answers or hints to some of the odd numbered exercises. This book will really get you to understand modern algebra if you take the time.

 | Introductory Graph Theory |
 | "Topics in Graph Theory" | 2008-07-17 |
This book is great for a course in topics in graph theory. It gives some theory followed by applications. It requires some mathematical maturity since some of the exercises require proofs. I would recommend this book for junior and senior undergraduates, and perhaps some graduate students who need graph theory.

 | Schaum's Outline of Graph Theory: Including Hundreds of Solved Problems |
 | "Wonderful Reference For Graph Theory" | 2008-07-14 |
This book is wonderful in my eyes. However, I do not recommend most Schaum's Outlines as textbooks, but as supplements to texts. They just contain too much. This book is good reference to have if you're doing a course in graph theory or if your work involves graph theory. I highly recommend it for reference use.

 | Linear Algebra (4th Edition) |
 | "Advanced Undergraduate/First Year Graduate Linear Algebra Book" | 2008-07-13 |
I don't know why people are degrading this book. If they don't like it then they need to choose another or use some supplementary material with it. This book is mainly for mathematics majors. It focuses mostly on theory with some applications. Usually your first course in Linear Algebra focuses on methods rather than a lot of theory. However, this book is designed for a second course in Linear Algebra. This book is used for first year Graduate Linear Algebra at U.R.I. and as a mathematics major you do need to know theory as well.

 | Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems |
 | "Differential Equations With Applications" | 2008-07-13 |
This book is a good book to introduce students to differential equations with applications. It also has a solutions manual so that students can check to see if their answers are correct. It may not be the perfect book, but overall it's a good book. I would actually recommend its use.

 | Advanced Modern Algebra |
 | "Graduate Abstract Algebra" | 2008-07-13 |
I can't believe someone actually said the problems in this book are easy! That's outrageous! This book is rigorous and is designed for graduate Abstract Algebra. The first few chapters may seen easy because they are a review of some topics down in undergraduate Abstract Algebra. I think the author did a very good job of reviewing first and then getting into the deep stuff to give all the students a fair chance. Not everyone is brilliant! I highly recommend this book for Graduate Abstract Algebra.

 | For All Practical Purposes: Mathematical Literacy in Today's World |
 | "Topics in Mathematics" | 2008-07-13 |
I saw URI using this book for a course taught there. The book wasn't what I expected when I got it. The topics are ok, but I don't like the style of the book. The book is just verbose in my opinion. However, some people like that kind of style in a book. If you like a wordy book in mathematics then I highly recommend this book to you.

 | Probability and Random Processes |
 | "Graduate Probability" | 2008-07-13 |
I don't think people should degrade this book because they found it to be tough. They have to blame the person or persons who chose to use the book. I think this book should be used for graduate studies in probability. Maybe people don't understand what graduate studies are all about. You are expected to master concepts when you're doing a master's degree and getting a graduate degree is not as easy as getting an undergraduate degree. I think this book challenges its users in the theory of probability and random processes. Anyone who uses this book and understands it well should have a great foundation in the theory of probability and random processes.

 | Measure, Integral and Probability |
 | "Great For Self Study" | 2008-05-17 |
I highly recommend this book as a supplement or for self study. However, I do not recommend it be used as textbook in a course. Solutions are in the back on the text. I really love this book though.

 | Contemporary Abstract Algebra |
 | "Great Introduction to Abstract Algebra" | 2008-05-17 |
Although this book may not be as rigorous as Hungerford, I still like this book. Actually, I prefer it over Hungerford. There are still proofs involved in the exercises. I don't understand why some reviews are bad for this book. I highly recommend it's use in an undergraduate Abstract Algebra class.
|
 | Introductory Real Analysis |
 | "Not A Bad Book" | 2008-05-17 |
I didn't like this book at first because it wasn't what I expected. I think the word "introductory" should be removed from the title. It's actually not an introductory book. I would recommend this book for graduate studies. Most real analysis courses at the graduate level focus on the measure theory and integration. However, I appreciate this book more now.

 | Linear Algebra and Its Applications |
 | "Sort of Confusing At Times But A Good Book" | 2008-05-14 |
I was tired of seeing the theoretical based linear algebra books and so I decided to buy one that focused on applications as well. I got a used copy of the 3rd edition. It's really good on applications. I recommend this book highly for applied mathematicians, scientists and engineers. However, I found some of the applications a bit confusing and some of the problems assigned could be challenging. In my opinion, I think this book has about 35% - 40% theory and the rest applications. Buy this book if you really want to see the applications of linear algebra.
