 | Guns of the Old West: An Illustrated History |
 | "Excellent photos book." | 2008-06-29 |
This is a great book for anyone who does not already own a collection of books on guns of the Old West. For the money it is SPECTACULAR! The book is color throughout. The only black and white material is actually from the 19th century and includes fine period photos of people with the guns being discussed as well as old drawings and correspondence. The text is brief and works as companion to the photos. I would recommend this to anyone with a new interest in this topic.

 | Desperate Trail |
 | "A Real Stinker" | 2008-01-31 |
I should have paid more attention to the first reviewer. This is a VERY BAD movie. Not only does Sam Elliot (my reason for buying the dvd) play a totally unlikeable character, but there are no redeeming features to this film. This is a very low low budget film. Basically, just two people (who kill without a second thought) running from another group of people (who kill without a second thought). The sound track (no one could call this music) is dreadful and distracting. The person who made it must have had only 5 instrument samples with which to do the "score." Revolting, actually. Don't buy this film if you like other Sam Elliot movies. I do recommend Conager and The Quick and the Dead.

 | The Tarot |
 | "A delight for lovers of Tarot, art, and scholarship." | 2005-10-02 |
I am an avid student of the Tarot as well as an art historian and college professor. Robert Place's book is scholarly without being pedantic. His understanding of the way images influence their times and are, in turn, influenced by their times is admirable. His clear writing and jargon-free analysis (currently rare in academia)will delight all who love art and Tarot. I have enjoyed every page.

 | Bellydance! Magical Motion |
 | "Great For Beginners!" | 2004-05-22 |
This was one of the first belly dance videos that I bought. I still love it (even after two years of serious study). I now recommend it to anyone who wants to begin bellydance! Atea's choice of dancers and costumes; her clear instructions; the repetition of each move so that you can follow along (dance with her - as if you were at a lesson) are all excellent. The quality of everything -lighting, sound, music, introductory material - are all high. This is an inspirational as well as practical video.

 | Bellydance! Fast Moves |
 | "Great for Beginners and Real Time Review/Practice" | 2004-05-22 |
I have studied belly dance seriously for several years. I got this video (and Atea's Belly Dance Slow Moves) over a year ago. I often use this one when I want to practice, exercise, and concentrate on the basic structure of my moves. It's nice to have someone set the pace and remind me of the proper forms. She breaks the moves down and does them slowly. Doing any move slowly is an excellent way to concentrate on doing it cleanly. Atea's style is very clear. Her moves are distinct and precise. This makes learning from her much easier than from other dancers whose moves are not so clear. I totally diasagree with some critics who find her too stiff. This is a teaching video, and she has her own style. The dances by other dancers (at the beginning and end of the tape) are all excellent and give the viewer a chance to see differnt styles and approaches - as well as a variety of costumes. This video combined with her Slow Moves video make a good set for a beginning student or anyone who likes to practice with a video.

 | Portraits (Contemporary Artists.) |
 | "The Eyes Have It" | 2001-09-14 |
This is an interesting approach to a portrait book. It's small and dense. Every right hand page contains a color photo which bleeds to the page edge. I am very fond of portraits - painted, sculpted and photographed. While I found far too many staring, wide-eyed, children (looking ever so much like baby harp seals), there are enough portraits revealing the complexity of personality to make the book worthwhile.
