Dio: Sacred Heart - The VideoDio: Sacred Heart - The Video
Rated 4 Stars"Goldie is no Vivian!" 2007-03-17
I missed the Sacred Heart show at the Cow Palace in '85(San Francisco) but remember a live recording on the local rock station w/ VIVIAN CAMPBELL which included Like the Beat of a Heart, Last in Line/Holy Diver, and Don't Talk to Strangers which was magical. Why Dio didn't release a video with Vivian is beyond me. Nothing against Craig but the original lineup which was a wondrous thing should have been on this video(now DVD) Dio prancing around with a sword slaying the dragon with lasers coming out of the eyes is downright hilarious nowadays but that Lord of the Rings style cheese was the bomb back then. For the kids I would recommend the Last in Line video from the Spectrum if it's available on DVD. Old middle aged metalheads I'll see you at HEAVEN AND HELL '07! How old is Dio now, 70?! And he'll be on stage pointing the devil horns at you! LOL!!! ON AND ON, ON AND ON! HEAVEN AND HELL! YEAH!!

One look at the cover and you know it's not going to be the usual
bland witty poetry you're accustomed to. A torrent of anger and despair unleashed ever so gracefully yet as blunt as a blow to the head. Loved Mortificare were your average poets are villified for producing soulless vanilla nonsense in their comfortable expensive homes using rhyming dictionaries.
Ironically her publisher Mr. Rollins also hates anyone referring to themselves as poets as it conjures up a beret wearing, stripped shirt hack who sips cappuccino and hangs out in coffeehouses. Coincidentally I was never comfortable calling myself a poet for the same reasons so I refer to myself as an "aspiring writer".

Rated 4 Stars"Must have for fans" 2004-06-03
After discovering this wonderful band only a few years ago and finally hearing their entire body of work it's nice to now have a live image when getting lost in their music.
Especially rewarding to see the original band at it's peak. I believe it's the Angel and the Dark River tour. After the following album the violin/keyboard player and one guitarist quit and the drummer(remarkable) had to leave for health reasons.
This timeless magical era in doom metal is indeed a feast for the senses and will invigorate your psyche and soothe your soul.

COME TO AMERICA LADS!!!

Rated 5 Stars"Bliss and despair combined" 2004-05-20
This was my first MDB experience. On a drive home late at night a few years ago my friend popped this CD in and I will never forget what transpired. I was simply in awe and dumbfounded that
something so beautiful, so haunting, so exquisite, so magical, was caressing my soul and overwhelming me to the point of musical revelation and orgasmic delight.
Every day for at least a month I listened to this on the way to work and as soon as the rainfall flowed lovingly through my speakers the California sun above me turned into a cold, dreary, Yorkshire winter and the utter darkness of despair overtook me while sipping my coffee and I loved and cherished every second of it.
This comes close to being MDB's masterpiece but it doesn't quite rival Turn Loose the Swans which is still their best work in my opinion.

This is not just the best gothic/doom metal album ever...it's one of the greatest metal albums ever. Right up there with Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood. After a slow start the sweeping intensity and gothic gloom never lets up. By the time the immortal words "TURN LOOSE THE SWANS!!!!!" are uttered you are overcome with emotion and bliss and bewildered by the sheer greatness of this work of art. Guitars, drums, keys, violin, vocals, all perfect.
I can't believe this album is 10 years old and I'm just hearing it for the first time. Why they never tour in America is beyond me.

Rated 2 Stars"Too artsy and boring" 2003-04-22
After his masterpiece "Leaving Las Vegas" I was looking forward to the next film from the talented Figgis but this is one of the most boring films ever made. I love slow, art-house films and having more music than dialogue was intriguing but this one just put me to sleep. A cure for insomnia. How could the twins at the airport not talk to each other? Maybe I missed something.

Typical "Skinemax" fare. Have plenty of Kleenex on hand when things finally start to heat up.

Playing Roulette As a Business: A Professional's Guide to Beating the WheelPlaying Roulette As a Business: A Professional's Guide to Beating the Wheel
Rated 3 Stars"Not bad but too good to be true" 2002-03-31
I was very excited at the prospect of this innovative system and
did very well at first. I had around a dozen winning sessions that averaged a $50-100 profit. The only downside was it took
FOREVER to make $$$. At least one hour to make $50 and 2+ to make
$100. A few times the wheel wasn't going my way and I got out
after breaking even. No losing sessions! I thought I had struck
gold and had crazy ideas about quitting my job, moving to Vegas,
and becoming a professional. A dream come true.

A few months later I went back to Vegas with a substantial bankroll to see if playing roulette full time would actually work. Total disaster. I should have known it was too good to be
true. No winning sessions, my numbers and the 0/00 were far and
in between. Either I was getting hammered or it took a few hours
just to break even. Many times I would check the electronic counter before playing, the numbers were hitting fairly often but as soon as I sit down- 8 losses in a row. It seemed like there was something funny going on but the luck I had
early on just disappeared. It could also be that every dealer has
a unique method of spinning the ball and it tends to land in certain areas more than others. Some dealers claim the ability to
have the ball land in an area of their choosing. Perhaps a good reason to be courteous and tip them.

And this system is NOT a relaxing way to gamble. Losing 7 in a row, pressing it up to $300, hoping the dreaded 8th loss doesn't
happen is very stressfull indeed. Fortunately, there was never 9
losses in a row but I'm never going through that hell again. Not
to mention the pitboss eyeballing you and the cocktail waitresses
ignoring you because you're spending ALOT more time at the table
than your average player who gets knocked out in no time.
