Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Four Way StreetCrosby Stills Nash & Young - Four Way Street
Rated 4 Stars"A beautiful recording from start to finish" 2009-09-29
The acoustic set - disk 1 - is a real pleasure to listen to. Really heartfelt. I couldn't ask for anything better. I don't think I've ever heard Neil sound this good. And on key to boot. I love his 'The Loner/Cinnamon Girl/Down By The River' medley. Crosby, Stills and Nash were stellar, as well. Simply beautiful. This is the kind of recording that requires being listened to on a good sound system. A portable mp3 player with earbuds will not allow you to appreciate the beauty of this music. And I love the between song chit chat also. It's comical. They seemed to be enjoying each others company during these shows.

The electric set on disk 2 is a bit more problematic. The vocals seem kind of muddy to me. I would love to see this remastered again with the latest technology. That's not to say that it's bad, just that it doesn't have the clarity of the acoustic set. And their instrumentation wasn't as tight as one would hope for.

The standout track on disk 2 is 'Carry On' - all 14 minutes of it. Excellent guitar work. Amazing.

This is a timeless recording. It doesn't matter if you're 16 or 60, it's as beautiful today as it was 40 years ago. Look past the politics of the time and just enjoy the music. It's worth it.

Looking back, these guys were such kids at the time, relatively speaking. Hooray for youthful enthusiasm. I am simply in awe of these guys.

Rated 5 Stars"A really great concert" 2009-04-01
I enjoyed it alot. It's consistently good from start to finish.

I have no problem with the fact that the Stones are still performing at their age. It's their job, how they make a living. I certainly don't fault them for that. It's great to see seasoned professionals demonstrating the virtuosity of their craft, and still enjoying it. They genuinely seemed to be having a good time.

I do have a couple of concerns with this film, though. Is there anyone in the audience over the age of 25? It doesn't appear so. There wasn't a biker, shiny head or grandma anywhere to be found.

Did they pay these pretty young things to attend this concert?

With that said, these kids did seem to be having a great time. They were very receptive and appeared to be in awe of these elder statesmen. That's a good thing.

I just don't particularly appreciate this kind of marketing strategy. It seems to diminish the validity of the Stones greatness in some way. I would have preferred to have seen a more representative demographic of their fan base. This just tells me that they are first and foremost business men, and not the rebels they once appeared to be. It just seems a shame that everything is profit driven. I guess the 60's are indeed dead, even if some of the icons of that time period are still around.

This film is genius. Definitely a one of a kind experience. Every scene with Edith Massey is riotious. She really was a natural. I can't imagine any trained actors being able to perform so convincingly as the untrained talent in this film. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Waters and his entourage. Now be off with you, heathens, before I banish you to Mortville to be sentenced before Queen Carlotta.

Just plain boring. After having read the other reviews here, I was anticipating a film of the caliber of 'Welcome To The Dollhouse'. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. The film was painfully slow and tedious, with no real character development. I don't recall having laughed OR cringed, not even once. Waste, waste, waste. It may appeal to artsy fartsy types, but for us common peasant stock it holds no appeal. If you want funny and sick, get an early John Waters film such as Polyester or Pink Flamingos. There's enough dysfunction in each of these films to satify most peoples neurosis.
