Rated 1 Stars" AllAbout Electronics = Wall Street Photo = Overpriced" 2009-03-26
3/31/09 UPdate. When I reviewed this offering below, the seller was named Wall Street Photo. They have apparently morphed into AllAbout Electronics, at least for now. Neither of these seller names have any history posted on [...]. If the seller had been doing business under these names for any length of time I would expect that a history of customer reviews would be available. Draw your own conclusions...

I have 3 of these flashes. They work great. However, this model has been discontinued by most resellers in favor of the new SB-900. Nikon will quit manufacturing it soon if they haven't already. When brand new, around 3 years ago, the SB-800 sold in the $350-400 range. The new, more capable, SB-900 that is replacing it is $452 from Amazon today.

Wall Street Photo is also trying to sell other discontinued Nikon gear through Amazon. What's amazing is that they are asking a higher price than the original manufacturers suggested retail price when the product was new. See their offering of a long sine discontinued Nikon D2HS body.

When sold by Amazon this was an excellent flash. But unless you have money to burn, I can't see why anyone would pay what Wall Street Photo is asking. Perhaps they're hoping someone who hasn't done much shopping will stumble across the good reviews and whip out their credit card. Buyer beware!

Black Max FootballBlack Max Football
Rated 5 Stars"The Black Bomb is back!" 2008-12-05
Like another reviewer I've been looking for another "Black Bomb" for years since my old ones have worn out. This appears to be the same product, but with a different name. The only difference I can see is that the mold release agent used in manufacturing the Black Max has the feel of silicone spray and is a bit slippery. I don't seem to remember that feature in the original but it's no big deal as it will probably transfer off the ball during use.

This ball is a fantastic outdoor toy for the 8 - 14 year old kid and the adults who care for them. It is smaller than an "official NFL" football but who cares? It fits better in smaller hands and is a pleasure to throw and catch. It's soft (but not nerf ball soft) material is easier on the hands and other body parts that it might impact by accident. Kids that shy away from leather footballs warm up to this one and have a lot of fun with it. It can be thrown a long distance and is easy to throw a nice spiral.

The downside is that it will degrade over time and with use. It's best not to bounce it off of bricks and driveways as the abrasion that results will cause the dense foam material to wear away more quickly than play in a grass yard. But, hey, it's only $10 so buy a few and put them in a closet for later. Best $10 I've ever spent on a yard toy.

Kinetic Power Computer for Kurt Kinetic TrainersKinetic Power Computer for Kurt Kinetic Trainers
Rated 2 Stars"Works, but flimsy construction." 2008-12-05
I bought this unit despite the mixed reviews because it's the only reasonably priced device that I could find that can actually measure my power output (in watts) with my Kinetic Pro trainer. And it does work as advertised.

However... like others have stated, Kurt used the cheapest components they could find to build this thing. The spoke magnet on mine worked loose after the second workout and had to be retightened. You'll have to supply your own cable ties. The ones that come with it are junk and will break if you tighten them enough to hold the sensor to the bike frame. The worse part is the battery compartment. I had to fiddle around for 20 minutes to get the battery to stay put in the battery well long enough to snap the cover back on. It took four attempts and the use of a dental probe to re-position 3 the flimsy metal contacts that surround the battery. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that you can insert the battery successfully without breaking something. And this review is from someone who is pretty adept at working with mechanical/electrical devices.

If you can put up with having to finisse this thing while you install it, it does work. And I didn't find it particularly challenging to use. The buttons are of low quality and have a loose feeling but, on my unit they work as described in the manual. No real problem. If you can operate any other bike computer, you shouldn't have any problem operating this one.

Mag Instrument ASXD036 D Cell Plain Leather Belt HolderMag Instrument ASXD036 D Cell Plain Leather Belt Holder
Rated 2 Stars"It works, but not well." 2002-09-02
I have owned a variety of high-end flashlights over the years and at one time worked as a Sheriff's Sergeant in a major metropolitan area. In that line of work a bright flashlight is a tool of the trade, and is carried at all times, even during the day.

A belt holder for a flashlight should keep the flashlight securely attached to the belt and allow the user to rapidly deploy and replace the flashlight with a minimum of fuss. It should allow the flashlight the freedom to swing and swivel to accommodate sitting in a vehicle and/or riding a snomobile, ATV or similar conveyance. This belt holder only accomplishes the first objective. While it does hold the flashlight securely, it tends to bind if one attempts to remove the flashlight without using a second hand to hold the ring perpendicular to the flashlight body and a second hand is required to hold the ring perpendicular to the flashlight body to return the flashlight to it's holstered position. The ring also has only limited freedom to allow the flashlight to swing forwards and backwards to clear obstacles and vehicle steats and saddles.

For casual use this product is OK. But for professional use, the product's single-axis swinging ring design detracts from it's usefullness. If you're serious about a flashlight holster, buy one of the all-leather products that has a ring that is soft and compliant and hold itself at 90 degrees to the belt ring. These can be obtained at a Police equipment supply.
