I only recently discovered historical-fiction - this was about the 4th book in the subject which I have read. I LOVE this book. Being Irish myself, I can almost picture how these people in the book might be related to myself (not really - of course!) - but the story is told in such a way that it really makes you think about your ancestors and what their lives must have been like and what traits you have that were possibly inherited from them! This book REALLY got me going in this genre of historical fiction. Love it. Can't say enough about it. This writer is really good - the time and effort he put into researching this book really makes you appreciate the story. I look forward to reading more from this guy. PS: It's huge - this is a thick book! Hope you're up to the task! But you won't be sorry. Especially if you're Irish!!!

	Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition [Xbox 360]

This edition of GTA will live up to your expectations for the series. It looks great - buildings, cars, car damage, character motion, etc. It all makes great eye-candy. Sounds - the music is awesome on the radio, voice work by the characters is perfect. Niko's voice is awesome. Playability: It's the same as the previous versions. No learning curve here. It's great - the mini-games are nicely tweaked too: bowling and darts in particular. Plot: Confusing at times. You end up for several people silmutaneously and at times you must make a "choice" about what to do - which helps with the replayability issue. But I can't say I remember why I'm doing something - only that I'm told to and it's fun. Great game. I've just about won it. I'd say it's shorter than the other games but now I can go back and explore the other "options" based on those choices they give you.

Listening to this on pandora dot com right now - what travesty is this? It sounds like they took some decent recordings of a young Frank and added some kinda "background noise" of crowds, clinking glasses, etc, as if to make this sound like you're listening to him live?? This is a travesty. The music is fine - but the fake-background I could do without. Pass on this one, folks.

I love this movie - I won't go on about it - but why is this movie "out of print" on DVD? It's FANTASTIC! It has 2 big stars in it: Helena Bonham Carter and Richard Grant, it's based off a great George Owell book, it's a great little film! WHY is this OUT OF PRINT!? There's no way this DVD should be any more than $12 like everything else out there! Does ANYONE know why this gem is "out of print"???

All I wanted to do was to be able to transfer some old garbage from some video tapes onto my PC. This works great! It has the hookups for either the old-school red-yellow-white connectors, as well as an s-video hookup. The input to your PC is a usb port as well as a microphone/line-in plug. The included software isn't pretty, but it works great. In less than 5 minutes you'll be recording garbage onto your pc! The video quality is EXCELLENT and you have a number of choices for quality, screen size, video format, etc. It's perfect. Great item. Highly recommend it!

Just got this. Works fine - really there's not much to a powered USB drive. I don't even know the make of the drive inside, but for the price at the time I bought it, you couldn't do better. It works fine. Had to format it in NTFS, which took almost 2 hours, but it worked. I can copy over large files (4+ gigs) with no problem. Cons: 1) It's not 320 Gigs. It's 298. Why the industry doesn't tell you actual # of gigs is beyond me. It's a marketing tactic I suppose. But that kind of sucks. Missing 20 gigs is like missing 5 files of DVDs I backed up. Lame. 2) Design. Wow. I don't care if this was "Exclusively designed by the renowned design agency Porsche Design GmbH" - it looks like a silver brick. OOOOO! How long did they take to design this gem? "Hey guys we have do design a hard drive." "I got it - how about a silver block? Genius!!" I don't think the design is anything special. I think it's weak they tout that as a strong point of the device, when in reality it looks like something I put together myself out of spare sheet metal. But, it works. So I'm happy with it.

DVD cases reallllly shouldn't be so expensive. I mean, there isn't much to them - just some pressed plastic to put your copied DVDs into. Whoops did I just say that? Ah well, I mean your BACKUP DVDs will fit into these.... yeah that's it. These have a clear plastic sleeve on the outside for the covers your print out at work on the color printer and take home. Not much else to say. They hold DVDs and the cover you print out for them. Shouldn't be so expensive. Should be like 3 bucks for 10.

Horrible. Simply horrible. Picked this book up at a book fair and struggled to make my way through it. I understand the whole somewhat unique approach the author took to his language in writing this drivel, but it's just painful to read. So many times I'll have to re-read a section, just to make sure I know who's speaking. It's a dumb story, not well told at all, and I found it hard to care about any of the characters at all. I didn't even finish it. Stopped about 15 pages from the end and literally threw this book in the trash just so no one will ever have to set eyes on this piece of garbage ever again.

Are you looking for a drill for someone? Thinking 10 volt, 12 volt, 14 volt, etc? Well whatever you buy, make sure it's a DEWALT. These things rock. I have this 12 volt thing and it's my everyday drill: wood, metal, whatever. Sure a 10 volt cheapo drill would do the job, but DEWALT drills just function SO WELL plus they make that excellent full-stop noise when you release the trigger. It's like a drill from the future! Plus it's a cool yellow/black color, which is the greatest color combination for all manly electrical products. PS: use drill bits.

How can you go wrong? Easy, cheap, it works. Well, that's pretty much it. Got a memory card or 2? Wanna plug that baby into your laptop? This is what you need! It works. What more can you say? There's not much to it. It's an adapter. It doesn't grant wishes or taste like Pop-Tarts so, really there's not much more to say about it.

If you, like myself, live in world where there is "weather", then you'll understand why I hate this product. You see, there are times when the temperature of my car, and everything in it, becomes amazingly cold. We call it "winter". You've never heard of it, you say? Well, apparently neither have the people who dreamed up this stuff. I've had a can of this in my car for over a year now. Went out to my car one FREEZING morning (it gets like that during the "winter" I mentioned before), and saw I had a flat! "No problem" thinks I, "I do believe I have been carrying a solution to this very problem right here in the trunk!". Open the trunk, pull out the "Fix a Flat" (HA!) only to find it FROZEN SOLID. Now, what use does something like this have, whereby you keep it in your car for an emergency only to have it completely useless when you need it most!? Cost me time + $ to put on my spare, haul it to a shop, and have my tire repaired. This stuff was a waste of money. If you live somewhere where there's actual WEATHER, don't kid yourself with this nonsense.

My dad bought me this CD as a gift years ago. I didn't care for Frank at the time, but as I listened to this CD, I grew to love the music of Frank Sinatra. The time period this CD covers is during his years at Capitol Records, which is still my favorite label that he worked under. This CD is great - a lot of Sinatra classics when the man's voice was at his best. Fresh, chipper, and sharp. This is an excellent CD for someone who is new to Frank. I own the 4-CD disc set from his Capitol years as well, but this is a great little disc all on it's own.

I bought this for under $300 from "refurbished mall" (whoever they are) through amazon.com. It arrived very fast, but 2 of the pixels are dead, which is amazingly distracting, making this thing useless. Also the remote had heavy scratches on it. BUYER BEWARE. If you order this TV, and it works, you'll be pretty happy. The TV tuner sets up channels real fast, it's small and light, the kickstand display has a very small footprint, and the unit itself has many functions I've never seen or needed before. For instance, with a button on the remote, you can flip the TV display to be a mirror image, or upside down, or upside-down-mirror-image. Why you'd need to do that I'll never know, but it's there! It has several backlight-brightness settings which are nice. The remote is simple and easy to use. It has some decent hookups in the back (cable, component video/audio, RGB, etc). It has a pretty nice menu with a number of options to customize the screen, including making the image a 16:9 ratio (will look pretty small on this TV), as well as a "stretch" image function. Image quality isn't that great. It's acceptable. Plus this is a 4:3 aspect ratio TV which is outdated by today's standards. Speaker quality is not that good - sounds cheap. I bought this for 1 function only (monitor in gym) and for that it will be just fine. It's a cute little TV. I'd buy it for a kids' room, or for something to hang in the kitchen, but I wouldn't buy this if you plan on using it a lot.

Pros: -Looks cool -Sounds GREAT Cons: -Expensive -No remote? -Wake-to-iPod song does not work. -nightlight WAY too bright I own an 80 gig black iPod video. I got this as a gift because I always wanted to wake up to a specific song on my iPod. Supposedly, this thing is supposed to do it. It doesn't. Please, please do not buy this if you own an iPod video and expect it to wake to a specific song. I have yet to find out if the unit is defective, or if there's something I'm doing wrong, but my guess is that because my iPod is one of the latest generations, that it doesn't work with this thing. The sound is GREAT. And it does look cool. But it's EXPENSIVE - and for such an expensive price you'd expect a remote right? WRONG. Also, the nightlight is WAY too bright and I've had to throw a shirt over it at night otherwise my room is a hazy blue all night. Close but no cigar on this unit. If anyone has gotten this thing to work (wake to specific song) with the new generation of iPods, please let me know.

As a true Japanese ninja, I find I have trouble being able to afford the really high-end swords that all the other ninjas have. Just the other day, I saw Ninja Bob with a Turbo-Blade Deluxe 9000! How am I supposed to compete with that? I don't make much money with my scouting, espionage, sabotage, and assassinations! Being a ninja isn't what it used to be. My shogun doesn't pay too well, but, he does let me use his laptop and the other day I was checking out swords on Amazon and came across this little beauty! It's perfect! It's made from 440 stainless steel, just like Ninja Bob's sword! The black woven cord handle matches my Sanjaku-tenugui quite nicely! It even functions great as just the other day I sliced a man in half, no problem! Now, if I can only find some budget shurikens...

I bought this for around $70 here on amazon after reading the reviews on cnet, etc. It was their highest-rated bluetooth headset. It works, but it could be much much better. First, I think technology still has a long way to go with regards to bluetooth/wireless headsets. Sound quality on this thing, while loud enough, made everyone sound like they were talking through several layers of tshirts. Everyone I've spoken to on this says they can tell I'm "on something" but that I sound "fine." Fine isn't good enough for me. Let's talk design: It absolutely excels in the "Cool" department - it looks slick and isn't some chubby ear thing. But, with that cool looking factor comes a lose and ill-fitting earpiece. Yes, it comes with 3 replacable earpieces, but none fit me quite right. I would like to offer this suggestion to all who own/consider owning this: When you are trying to insert this into your ear, take your hand opposite the side of the ear you are putting this in, grab the top of your earlobe and pull up while twisting this thing into your ear canal. I got it to fit OK but walking around with it - it feels like it's going to fall out any second. The buttons: Yes they are small but we are all aware that as technology shrinks, so are the buttons. Yes, they are difficult to use, but I'm used to it and you should be too. Main problem: Is that you really have to press down for the buttons to click, and this thing is already ready to fall out of your ear, so trying to slam on a button isn't helping. Why someone doesn't put a nice little trackwheel for volume on one of these things is beyond me. You can walk around with this but you'll want to keep your phone nearby - I walked into the next room not more than 10 feet from the phone and it got static, etc. Pretty weak if you ask me. It works OK. It paired up with my Motorolla KRZR just fine and works no problem. I wonder if the Motorolla headsets work better with Motorola phones. The main reason I got it is for when I drive because I don't like being on my cell while driving and everyone seems to want to call me when I'm driving. For that purpose it is acceptable. I guess my expectations are too high for this technology... again.
	Superman Returns

Superman, as a character in a video game, hasn't worked yet for 1 main reason: Superman himself can move in any direction at any time. Getting this to work realistically and properly in a video game whereby the user has full and perfect control is daunting, to say the least. When flying, fighting, etc, it's near-impossible to move around successfully with good control. You just sort of hope for the best that you don't hit all those cars or burn all those people. Also, Superman has a lot of powers, and getting THESE to work intuitively is a diffcult task as well. This game tries a "lock-on" approach which really isn't as helpful as you'd think. Gameplay is weak too, there's no real plot. You just sort of save the city over and over and over again. It's not that much fun. Graphics suffer too, in that because you ARE Superman, you can move with incredible speeds so that when you move from spot to spot, the buildings still better look good when you get there. The graphics in this game are weak to compensate for this very point. Let's review: "Go anywhere in Metropolis right away, exploring the first open-world game that extends from the street all the way into the atmosphere": So what - the graphics are weak because of this very point. Plus, there really isn't much to do in this "open-world" game. It's a pretty boring world. "Non-linear gameplay and innovative flight, rescue, and combat mechanics let you create your own experience" - over and over and over and over again. Non-linear is right, but it's still the same thing repeatedly. "Play through missions inspired by over 6 decades of Superman stories, plus film-inspired events with voiceovers by Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey" - some of these missions are entertaining but quickly become tiresome. Hey, at least we got Spacey's voice in a videogame finally! "Master and upgrade Superman's unique powers" - like Superman normally would, right? Wrong. Upgrading is the only way they could tie-in some sort of achievement into the game. "Superman's success depends on Metropolis' health" - SO TEDIOUS to keep saving the town over and over again. ARG. Rent it. You'll see what I mean.
	Psychonauts

I heard about this game through a magazine - I think this game won an award or something. Anyhow I gave it a shot. It's good. It's certainly fun, and unique. The game has a very skewed look to it, and as I was playing it reminded me of "Day Of the Tentacle". Turns out, it was designed by the same guy/people! So that answers that. With this skewed look comes a bit of a sticky wicket: Sometimes you have trouble telling where to go next, as it's hard to see exactly where to go when the world around you is all steep hills and weird stuff. The characters are good and the plot is good and the gameplay is good. Occasionally you'll die cause the camera will screw up and you'll move in the wrong direction or it's not quite clear exactly how far a jump should be, but you get so much life it's not really a challenge. It's a fun game to rip through, that's about it. One thing that bugged me is after winning it, that's it. You can't go back and wander around the "real" world which would be nice cause there are some small things I didn't accomplish which would have been nice to do. I'm not sure it's worth the price - I won it in a week (I didn't buy it though).
	In Cold Blood

I had no idea what this book was about when I bought it. It was years ago now, and I was given a list of "Good Books" to read as a present: A deck of cards, each card representing a great work in American Literature that everyone should read. This was one of the books. I liked it a lot. At the time, I had no idea who Capote was (I still don't) and it wasn't until recently when movie after movie keeps coming out about this "Capote" character that I realized he was the author of this book. It's a good book, and a well-told story, but I don't see why Capote has recently been thrown up on a pedestal and worshiped by Hollywood. Regardless, this book is worth your time.
	The Kite Runner

At least it was an interesting read. I had trouble caring for the main character - he seemed like sort of a jerk. I mean, his best friend as a kid, and he wouldn't stand up for him etc? Wasn't believable not to mention terribly depressing. Even the "Happy ending" isn't happy at all. Everyone seems miserable. It reads well and it won't take you long to finish, but I had trouble connecting with the people in the story.
	Vangelis - Blade Runner - O.S.T.

Blade Runner is the finest sci-fi movie ever made. Same for the soundtrack. This is it, but they included sound bytes from the movie WITHIN the tracks of music. I love soundtracks which include sound bytes as seperate tracks, but for some reason when they made this, you get sound clips from the movie buried withing the music at different times. It's distracting. Still excellent music of course. And yes this is the disc you're looking for.

You were playing at your Grandmas, and you saw she had this cool version with a rotating turntable, wooden tile holders, nice deep pockets where the letters sit on the board. You decided to buy one yourself here at amazon. You ordered it, excited to have a high quality Scrabble in your own possession. You get it in the mail, you open the box, thrilled to own Scrabble, but then.... the unthinkable!! This ain't your Grandma's Scrabble!! What they have done, is turn a nice idea into the cheapest thing they could come up with and still call it "deluxe Scrabble". PLASTIC. Everything is PLASTIC. The tiles might be wood, I dunno I didn't bite them, but everything else is cheap, thin plastic. Doesn't turn nice like the old version. And the biggest kicker of them all, is the board itself. Gone are the nice deep squares the tiles would sit in - where even if you bumped into the game or table, they would stay put. Now it's shallow grooves, and you have to be careful not to turn the board to quicky or they'll move easy. You're better off buying an old one at a garage sale.

Works excellent. Just got it. Plugged it right into my notebook and BAM it works just fine. Small, I wouldn't recommend it for long use, but it works great, and the trackwheel has a nice click when you rotate it. Can't beat it for the price. The retractable cable is sweet. A++ WOULD BUY AGAIN

It works just fine - pieces snap into place, everything fits into attached case - it works perfect! You can even squeeze an electronic spell checker (cheater) in the folio with everything else. Great version of Scrabble - now you can play on the bus or beach or anywhere!

Uh, it's a power strip so what's to say? It works. You plug things into it, and they work. Actually the best thing about this one is it comes with little stickers that you can attach to the end of plugs on your electrical devices so if you unplug something, you'll know what it is! Though, it should include blank ones so you can name things yourself such as PS2 or ROUTER, things like that. Anyhow this was a great price and this seller ships real quick so you can't lose.
