This is my first foray into camcorders. I've been waiting at least 10 years for just the right camcorder to come along. This is the first one that had many of the criteria I was looking for: HD, small size, high quality image, OIS, photo taking, built in memory, etc.

I have to say that I'm satisfied with it considering the price you're paying for such a little marvel. The only things I think that can stand to improve are the sharpness of the photos, the low light performance, the capacity of the 809 battery, a wheel for manual focusing and perhaps a larger touch screen instead of the manual controls. Other than those things I can't think of anything else that would enhance this little gem.

It works wonderfully with iMovie '09. Just plug it in and you're ready to go. No hunting the internet or CDs for drivers.

The PQ of the videos are extremely good in good light, decent with moderate light. I think most people would be very satisfied with it.

I use these with my RS-1. I'm a very picky listener. These do not change/degrade the sound whatsoever.

They sound OK. The real problem is the stupid extension cord. Why have one??? It makes no sense to stick a huge connector in teh middle of a headphone cord. It only adds extra weight to the cord and it's ugly.

They could have made the first segment longer so that most people won't need to use the extension.

Rated 4 Stars"Fantastic image!" 2008-04-25
This camera has the best image quality in a compact body out of all the compact cameras in the market today. Yes, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other small cameras but for people who are serious about photography, image quality comes first.

Would I like it to be faster, have face recognition, better button layout, higher resolution screen, etc? Sure, but I sure wouldn't be willing to sacrifice image quality in order to get it. I know many point & shoot users would. This is NOT a camera for those folks.

This is a thinking person's camera. You have to use your brain to figure out what aperture, speed, ISO, DOF, etc. to get professional photos out of it. Of course the camera can also help but it's not the quickest in focusing. Hopefully, future updates to the firmware will address some of the shortcomings.

For those of you who want to learn about photography, this is the perfect camera for you also. It's the perfect camera to learn since it gets you to think about the settings before you take the shot.

One other comment I would like to make is on the Foveon sensor. It does have a unique image signature that's very different from the Bayer sensor cameras. Just as Leicas had a different film signature in the old days with film. The DP1 has a 3 dimensional accurate color reproduction that's hard to describe. You'll have to see the samples for yourself.

Rated 5 Stars"This is a cool unit" 2008-01-17
I replaced my 60CSx with this. I have to say that it's a good replacement. I haven't spent too much time with it yet but the display is definately sharper. The 3D map view is awesome.

I will be putting it through its paces in the next few weeks. No time now!

Update: After using this unit for a few weeks I have to say that it still has a lot of bugs in the firmware that needs to be worked out. Garmin support has been good as well as forums in helping to answer question about these shortcomings. In terms of the hardware I would say that it's definately a step up from the 60CSx; however, the firmware leaves a lot to be desired. I would say that it will probably take another 6-9 months before it gets to the level of the 60 Series in terms of stability.

I think most people will be happy to have the black rather than the white models here in the U.S.

I haven't had a chance to gauge whether or not the weak hinge problem is still present with these new units, only time will tell.

Obviously, the black won't show dirt as much as the white units. Other than that, there shouldn't be any difference between the two models.

Rated 5 Stars"Let's get some things straight..." 2005-10-14
First of all, I don't know why people say that it's wider when it isn't. As far as I can tell from the spec page, the new iPods are the SAME height and width as the old 20 GB ones that it replaced. Both of the new models are actually THINNER and hold more capacity. What's not to like?

I think the confusion lies in that the screen has increased in size from 2" to 2.5" WITHOUT changing the actual width and height of the 4th Gen 20GB iPods. That's why you see the screen covering almost the entire top from edge to edge. Because of the increase size of the screen they no longer could fit the original dial on the front. So the new models have a smaller dial. Not as small as the Nano but definitely smaller than the older iPods. The effect of these two modifications gives the ILLUSION that the new iPods are wider or taller but it's NOT.

The other thing I hear people complaining about is how it's not good for video. Let's get something straight. This is a REPLACEMENT for the older iPods, not an additional model introduced for the sole purpose to playing videos. Like Jobs said, the video is just an ADDITIONAL benefit of the new models. You're actually paying the same prices as the old AND you're getting more capacity and video functions to boot! Again, what's not to like?

As they become more successful with video, they will introduce models that will showcase more of the video but what's the point of introducing one at this juncture with no real programs for you to watch??? Remember boys and girls, Apple is a business and as such they want you to replace your iPods over and over as technology improves. The current product cycle for Apple seems to be every 12 months. That means you should expect a really cool video iPod by the same time next years IF they are successful with this video experiment. Let's hope that Jobs will be successful in getting more studios to sign up!

That brings me to the other complaint I always hear: that the iPod/Nano scratches too easily. Come on folks! This is not a device you're about to keep for many years, do you really care if it gets scratched up if you're going to replace it every few years??? Instead, just enjoy using it and then replace it as newer and better ones will continue to be introduced. Enjoy life!

There's a problem with the design of this headset. The jack used is too short. It's EXTREMELY sensitive to movement. If you don't have it plugged in ALL THE WAY and keep it still, you'll loose the connection. I don't know why they designed it that way...

Rated 1 Stars"This book stinks!" 2005-03-12
Let me make a simple observation, people by these type of books for the pictures. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words right? But flipping through this book gave me the impression that the authors wanted to explain in words rather than with pictures. It was "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah" when a few more photos would have been much better. Why describe with words???

I liked "Prefab Modern" by Jill Herbers better because it has more designs. It actually had many of the same designers in Prefab but with more pictures, less words, and a floor plan which really helps you to conceptualize the designs. Not only that but the book by Jill Herbers is cheaper too...

The Hunting of the PresidentThe Hunting of the President
Rated 5 Stars"Duh?" 2004-09-30
I think some of you are missing the point. Let me explain it to you. First of all, do we have ANY business snooping into someone's sex lives? I mean, how would you like it if you go into work one day and your boss/employer starts asking you all sorts of questions about YOUR sexual history, preferences, etc and based on your answers fires you because he/she's hired a private investigator to look into your sexual history and claims that you lied to him/her about it? I know what you would do. You would sue the heck out of the company.

Well, why can't we give the President the same courtesy? After all he's the leader of the most powerful nation in the world, don't you think he deserve that much privacy? The Republicans had some decency back in JFK's days when Kennedy had a virtual revolving door at the white house. Why can't that be said about the Republicans now?

The second question is which lie hurt the nation more, a lie about whether or not you had sexual relations with someone other than your wife or lies about going to war? The Republican's hero Bush told outright lies to Congress and the American people which sent Americans overseas to die. This is much more an impeachable offense than lying about receiving oral pleasures. But you know what? Democrats are not sleazy because they have not asked for an independent council and a grand jury to go after Bush. At least they still have some respect for the office of the Presidency.

This is one sweet unit. I owned the Vista previously and was getting a bit tired of the slowness at which it refreshes the map screen when moving the pointer to scroll. The new 60cs is much more powerful. The screen is also very easy to read. Sound feedback is much appreciated as well as the ability to customize the page order. The unit also locks to satellites very quickly. I haven't had time to hike under heavy foliage yet to see how it compares to the Vista but I'm sure it can't be any worse since the Vista requires that the unit face up all the time. I only wish that they have a neoprene case for the 60cs like the one they have for the Vista. That has kept my Vista looking brand new after many years of use which is great now that I'm ebaying the unit.

I've since had the chance to try this unit in dense foliage and it performs great! The Vista wasn't nearly as sensitive with it's patch antenna as the 60CS with the quad helix. I use to lose signals under certain frequented trails that's full of trees with the Vista but now the 60CS, I don't lose a crumb. Previously with the Vista, I had to check on it every few minutes to make sure that the patch antenna was facing up if I wanted to record a crumb trail. Now, It's great just letting the 60CS dangle on the included clip on my backpack with not a worry.

I also find the display much easier to read on the trail. The color really helps. The beeps also notifies you of different issues which is great. All in all, I'd say I've made the right choice to upgrade to a 60CS.

I love this movie but what's with the lousy transfer? Hello?! McFly?!? Haven't they heard of "16 X 9"? I wish the studio clowns would remaster this thing and do the movie justice. Hey, they did it correctly with the rest of the movies in this series, the least they can do is to remaster this classic.

Man, What's up with Universal and their dumb packaging? First it's the dumb Cylons on BattleStar and now a "Parka" NE? Why can't they just release it normally like all the other studios and skip the gimmicks. I didn't buy Battlestar because of the dumb packaging and now this....how about releasing a "regular" version for the normal people please...

Rated 5 Stars"Great product but..." 2001-10-22
I just purchased this unit 2 weeks ago and have been trying it out all over the place. I even took it down to Orlando this past week during my vaction and used it on the plane to track our flight position (since GPS is a receiver only, it won't interfere with the cockpit instruments and radio). Anyway, one thing I've noticed about these units is the high incidents of defects. The first unit I received had a bad compass that spung out of control. The second unit I received had a joystick that is not centered so that i would accidently select and click at the same time. Although this second problem is not as cronic. However, you would think that they have better quality control for something that costs $350. Well, i'm going to return this second unit and hope that the third will be the charm.

Also, this unit does take some time for it to lock on to satellites. If you are under almost anything thicker than a pane of glass forget about it. I haven't used it extensively under foliage but so far it's a no go. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's just the coolest toy (it's a tracking computer in the palm of your hand!), but it's only 4 stars if you count the before mentioned problems.
