I've owned the unit now for a few hours, and it works almost perfectly. I'm using an Onkyo Receiver, Toshiba DVD player, Sanyo T.V. and a Panasonic LCD Projector for films. Not a single conflict has occurred with the unit! I was a little worried about its compatiblity with so many different brands, especially the Projector, which has a special remote all its own. I was happy to see that the Harmony picked it up without a flinch, and now when i want to watch my DVD's on the really big screen, one button is all i need. BAM, everything comes on. It was suprising, especially since many of the devices I have, have a few years on them, some as old as 10 years, so I was worried the device listing may not even be around, but it wasn't a problem, thus far, everything turns on!

I've gone through many remotes, and almost settled on the idea that it was always going to take 3 to 4 remotes to watch a film. Thank goodness someone got it right. The computer interface isn't all that difficult either. I was a little timid at first, but then, after spending some time programming, it is very easy to use. Especially if you have XP, there are no problems at all.
The website has got a HUGE listing of devices, i think it would be rare to NOT find yours on there. I daresay, impossible. The computer downloading your operations is much easier, then facing two remotes together, lining them up, and hoping the "learning" remote gets it right. I've done that, and well, it sucks.

This was all configured on the website, your settings are saved, you can add or delete or customize, and just download it on the remote. It's like a hard drive with an infared on the end. It's great.

I'm no teckie, just a person who wanted one remote, not four. I would recommmend this device definately. We'll see how it "ages", that's for sure, so that is why I gave it 4 stars. I want to see what kind of abuse it can take, and how it runs in the long haul (i've got two toddlers running around. . . it's just asking for it!) I went ahead and purchased the 2 year plan at Best Buy to cover it, i usually never go for such things, but, i've seen my kids in action. Geeze.

Try it! It works!

This is one of those other little gems that slipped under the radar when I was growing up. Once again, I remember the movie, but never knew that it had come from a book first. I must have seen the film a hundred times (thanks to USA network, TNT and the like). However, it wasn't until a few weeks ago, that I actually seeked it out in its true form, almost 15 years later.

What I was amazed with, was the faithfulness of the film to the text. They were almost dead on, with all the scenes, and especially the dialogue. Some things, as normal, were altered a bit or changed, but for the most part, what you see in the film (minus extra exposition and some character development) is what you read in the book.

It is a good read, filled with great dialogue and wittiness. Yet at the same time, some of the authors "intrusion" into the text can be a little distracting at times. And at others, it is neat to hear him talk about how certain ideas came about, that directly affected the "film" version. Now that i've read it, when I view the film, I can honestly say they were dead-on with the casting. The personalities they picked, were excellent.

If you are interested in going a bit beyond the movie, and seeing some extra info about Buttercup and Wesley, its a great little read (depending on what edition you get). And you can really see, just how honest/faithful they were, and careful, when bringing it to the big sreen. . .years ago.

Alright. I'm 30 years old, have two kids, bought this game recently for my computer so I could play with my youngest son, and have something that wasn't ultra violent and could have a good time with.

Well, this game rocks. I think it has been underrated on a few game sites thus far (even though it still got high ratings), but generally the reviews are very good for this game. And i think the developers did a great job with the depth of the game (considering it is a "kids" game), and making a Star Wars game simply fun again. My wife and I play it almost every night, just having fun being jedi and unlocking the secrets in the game. Yes. . .my wife and I play it. This game does appeal to the adults and the kids, so that is the mark of a well developed game.

The graphics, and gameplay make it addicting. I have hardly any gripes about it. I only wish they would have released it for the GameCube. I would suggest also, getting a gamepad, or controller of some kind. I havn't shared the other problems people are having (simlpy not working, or not having the right "specs"), though from what I've read, everything they've mentioned is "on the box". So, I dont think it's fair to curse the game for it. This game is good, top of the line, so older computers will not run it as well.

It has great replay value, its crisp, lots of fun characters (you can be over 30, so its just nuts) and its just addicting. Try the demo if your not sure. But this is one of the best star wars games I've played in a long time. Just fun.

I really like season 2 part 2. The episodes got a lot more creative and had a lot more variety than the earlier ones. The "key to vector sigma", (the concept that explains how Transformers are created) are key episodes to the series and seeing female Tfs, as well as going to space to new found planets are very exciting and innovative. I personally think the new sound effects are cool. I really like season 3 a lot because it is so sci fi and epic, but season 2 has very entertaining interesting personalities. Possibly the most entertaining ones so far. More lighthearted than season 3 but with lots of cool storylines (I think child's play is brilliant). It's nice to also have characters introduced one at at time which the first half of season 2 part 2 does nicely. Transformers usually likes to introduce a 100 characters at once and one of the reasons that the characters are so much fun and more developed I think is because they're introduced on a slower basis. (that goes for the second half of season 2 part 1-if you follow me). Hoist, tracks, warpath, powerglide, seaspray, smokescreen and more each get their own episodes starring only them, with possibly another transformer. They have extreme and fun personalities. The smokescreen episode introduces Defcon a runaway autobot who fled cybertron only to end up on another planet other than earth. (defcon looks like a cross between kup and blurr, but maybe that's me). This is the best season to buy before the movie. It's the most developed and interesting.
I thought tf was animated in america. Any thoughts? what on earth happened to these characters from season 2 part 2 during the movie I have no idea. Some of them you never see again.

It's been taking the Henson company a long time to get these titles pumped to DVD, and it's nice to see The Storyteller fill the gaps in the shelves. I am still waiting for Fraggle Rock, but hopefully that is on the horizon.

I remember these as part of the Jim Henson Hour (another series I would like to see again) and they were as enjoyable to watch as they are now.

I gave the DVD 3 stars, simply because it's just that. . . a DVD. No extra's no behind the scenes, nothing added to it, just the stories, one after another in a digital format. The content and movies are great, its just that, well, there wasn't anything else. Kind of disappointing, but I'm sure back then, they didn't have a lot of cameras on the set filming behind the scenes, it wasn't the fad or desire back then.

This is a dvd though, that's not for kids. Young kids that is. Some pretty spooky moments, and the creatures can be a bit scarey. It's a fairly dark, gritty form of story telling, but fun and amusing at times.

To wrap up, its great. If your a fan of Jim, it belongs in your DVD library. No extras though, just the 9 episodes and that's it. The sound is good, picture great, just as I remember them. My only desire for some of the recent releases of Henson DVD's is to actually have more of Henson on them. He was a great man, and to hear him speak about his films and what he was doing is always a rare treat. I just wish they had more film footage of him.

The NeverEnding StoryThe NeverEnding Story
Rated 4 Stars"The Neverending Nostalgia" 2004-04-22
I would agree with a lot of the reviewers thus far about this movie. If you didn't see it when it first came out (and if you weren't between the ages of 5-10) then the magic will be difficult to grasp. Which is the irony of the movie. It's about imagination disappearing, and people forgetting to dream and remember what it was like to be a kid.

Nevertheless, it is a good movie. The wolf might scare the kids, I remember it being rather spooky when I saw it at the age of 8. And of course, the effects are. . . ohhh, slightly dated, but they hold up. The only thing that simply STINKS about this DVD release is the lack of extras, (I guess we could call it the Nothing). Because it has none. Big disappointment. Where is the cast and crew? Why didn't the director put in some time with this movie and give us a commentary, or behind the scenes, or even cut scenes? Wasn't this a classic. . . ? As far as I know the director hasn't been up to too much lately. It's a shame, it's a classic for those who grew up in the 80's, it did leave it's mark culturally, and I'm surpised nobody from the cast/crew decided to do anything for it when it released. It may have DVD quality, but not the quantity. I only paid 10 bucks for it, so, in the long run it was worth it.

In the meantime, if you want just a movie purely for imagination, then buy it for your kids. It sure beats all the slop the movie industry has kicked out recently for "childrens entertainment".

I am still amazed at how many movies flashed by when I was a kid, that were books first. 20 years later I find this book, just by mere chance, and buy it. I remember the movie, and loved it.

If you have seen the movie first, the initial shocker is that the entire movie is found within the first 1/4 of the book. I couldn't believe it. Things kept moving along, and as I flipped pages, you could easily tell there was MUCH more to come, yet everything that happened in the movie seemed to wrap up within the first 100 pages or so. And I have to admit, the movie was pretty faithful to the book. I can see why some characters were changed, due to lack of good technology or time, but for the most part, everything is there. The rest of the story is a fun read, and good fantasy. I would recommend the book for those who were raised on the films, and for younger kids. Not too young, there are some pretty creepy moments, but it nevertheless is a book about imagination. It's money well spent. Get it, if you want to see what really happend to Bastian, and Fantastica.

Rated 2 Stars"Nice, but no Tolkien" 2004-04-14
I remember watching the movie, the original by Rankin/Bass many many years ago, and fell in love with it. Here I am, 28 years old, and just read the book. This is one case where I think the movie was better.

A lot of people compare this particular story to Tolkien. But I have to be honest and say, it is far from his works. Granted it is an interesting story, original. But I found it to be a little boring. It has interesting fantasy, and a great villan (love the bull). But I couldn't help but be slightly bored with the slow travel, and encounters, and very few climactic scenes (or battles). It has it's moments, surely, but it isn't all it's cracked up to be. People make this book sound like it's the next gospel. But I found it to be creative, yet simple, and even though it's fairly small book (which was surprising) it took a while to get through it. And I found some areas difficult to understand, and had to re-read a few paragraphs to understand exactly what was happening.

Nevertheless I'm glad I read it. It isn't horrible, it's just been glamourized a little too much. Check out the movie, I think it's actually better.

Ok, first off, its a collection worth having. All the originals are here, and everything you remembered about them is present. I've broken down my review into quick snibits to make it short and sweet.

SOUND: I don't know why Rhino decided to put 5.1 audio on a cartoon that was barely suitable for stereo. The sound is good, however the decision to replace sounds with new snd fx was a horrible idea. Why? Why!! Also, because of this "forced" 5.1 audio, it is painfully obvious and straining to the ear to hear the audio switch back and forth between your center spkr and your surrounds. It was a nice try, but really doesn't snd too good.

IMAGE: The restoration is good, and I don't think can get any better. Crisp and clean. Though, I don't understand why Rhino decided to keep the commercial tag lines in. It seems those should have been taken out.

EXTRAS: Horrible. They are actually pretty boring, and having almost nothing to do with the old series. These are guys who are doing the new Armada series, and you don't get anything, zippo, from hardly anyone who did anything on the original broadcast. They are not well done either, and did I say they were rather boring?? No concept designs, sketches, storyboards, commentaries. . . nothing.

That's it. Besides all that, it is worth having to simply relive the nostalgia of it. But I think Rhino has made some pretty wierd and poor decisions on the quality. It's as if no one really tested the product. Or, these are people who didn't even grow up with the series, and are simply pumping out another DVD to put on the market. who knows.

I am a Graphic Design student in Kansas City. Finding anyone to teach you marker rendering is impossible, yet the field demands you have this talent. This book is a great start. I've looked all over for good books on this subject and they are rare. The book is in FULL color, with plenty of exercises. He also tells you the exact marker he used in each drawing, to keep u on track. And works through all perspective problems. It's inspiring just flipping through the pages. However, it still demands practice and discipline, but with this book it will help. If you've been scared of marker rendering, start with this book, it will get u on your feet.
