![]() | "Good Replacement For Crossbow" | 2006-11-29 |
| Although the Big Bad Bow (known in the Nerf Internet Community [N.I.C.] as the BBB or 3B) is a re-release of the discontinued original, nothing has changed. The BBB is still a decent high powered single shot spring blaster. Though not as famed or as powerful as the also discontinued Crossbow, the BBB makes a suitable replacement. The gun is quite useless for someone who is not prepared to mod it properly, with only six foam arrows, which should never be used in a serious war, and a meager range of 40 feet, the stock BBB is a bit of a joke. The actual bow parts don't really do anything, they are just for show, and add nothing to the gun. When properly modded, however, the BBB is an excellent weapon. Firstly, the barrel must be replaced. With a good brass, crayola, or PETG barrel replacement, the gun can often fire mini stefan darts 90-100 feet. It's not a bad idea to re-lube the gun as well. A simple restrictor removal can also benefit the gun's range. There are even more advanced mods that can clip-mod the gun to make it have a Rate of Fire similar to that of the new N-Strike Longshot. Overall, the gun is a good choice for a modder or someone just looking for some quick fun. But don't buy this gun if you are planning to participate in a nerf war and are not prepared to mod it. | ||
| Xenocide : Volume Three of the Ender Quartet | ||
![]() | "Incredible, Card Still Has It" | 2006-07-04 |
| I cannot understand why people bash the Ender sequels. If they were expecting another Ender's Game in every new book, they should learn to like something else. Xenocide has some really interesting Metaphysical and Philosophical topics. The plot may not be as interesting as Speaker for the Dead, but the book is every bit as enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading Children of the Mind because it is obvious that Card still knows how to make a good book. | ||
| Pink Floyd - Pulse (Non-Blinking) | ||
![]() | "Excellent, Worth Every Penny" | 2006-03-11 |
| Pulse is Pink Floyd's 1995 tour for The Division Bell. And what a tour it is. If you've ever seen photos of the tour, it's absolutely amazing. If you've ever heard the music, then you know why this is one of the greatest tours ever. Pulse starts out with some of the Floyd's greatest songs. Astronomy Domine is great, and is reminiscent of the song when it was preformed in 1969 on Ummagumma. Learning to Fly is a classic, and is preformed well. Hey You is simply amazing. The backup singers certainly add to the spectacular performance, which is better then the versions on The Wall and A Delicate Sound of Thunder. Gilmour proves that he is every bit as good of a vocalist as Waters. High Hopes is a favorite of mine, and proves every bit as good as the studio version. Another Brick In The Wall (Part II) leaves a little to be desired, but then again I can never recall a live performance of the song living up to it's studio counterpart. Disk 2 begins with the intro to 'Breathe.' Some people don't like the sound of cheering fans, but it adds to the effect as Pink Floyd's first performance of The Dark Side of the Moon in 20 years begins. Though some of the tracks are lacking, the performance of DSM is great. At the end of DSM, the band begins 'Wish You Were Here', perhaps their most recognizable song. The entire audience sings along with the band, and instead of being annoying, the sound of tens of thousands of people singing the same song is wonderful. The edition of Pulse I purchased came in a sturdy cardboard slip cover that contains a small hardcover booklet featuring pictures of the tour. This booklet is far better then the one found in 'A Momentary Lapse' and contains some great new artwork by the infamous Storm Thorgerson. All in all, Pulse is a great album, probably Floyd's greatest live performance. The lack of Roger Waters does not take away from the music at all, and goes to show what a great leader Gilmour was. I would have like to see some songs from Animals, and it would have been great to have heard Echoes one more time, but the overall song selection is appropriate. The album is certainly better then 'Lapse' and makes a great addition to any Floydigan's collection. | ||
| Wearing of This Garment Does Not Enable You to Fly : 101 Real Dumb Warning Labels | ||
![]() | "Short, Cute" | 2005-12-20 |
| This book offers a few laughs and memorable Warning Labels, but is too short to really be enjoyable. Some of the Labels are cute, and you can spend time wondering who actaully did some of the ridiculous stuff in there, but the book ends far too soon. You get about 30 good lables out of the 101, that's about it. I read through it in about 20 minutes, then gave it as a gift the next day. | ||
| Apple iPod Dock Kit | ||
![]() | "Unnecessary, but nice to have" | 2005-11-28 |
| The dock is probably the most useless iPod accessory I've seen. All it does is keep your iPod off whatever its sitting on. Still, its cool to have. The best thing the dock has done for me is help to organize all my wires and keep my iPod off of my nightstand. Its pretty cool to go from listening to your iPod with headphones, snap the iPod into the dock, and have music playing right away. I managed to get it for $12, and that's about what its worth. The dock is DEFINITLY not worth $30 or $40. I'm so serious about that I'll say it again. The dock is DEFINITLY not worth $30 or $40. Period. The dock is cool to have if you can find it cheap, but not really necessary. I enjoy having it, but only because I got a deal for it. | ||
| Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell | ||
![]() | "Must Have for Splinter Cells" | 2005-11-28 |
| Although not written by Tom Clancy (it clearly states so on the cover, so I only an idiot would think it was written by Clancy) Splinter Cell is a good read. Even though it made sense without playing, I wouldn't reccomend it to those who haven't played the game. I read it as because I loved the game, and the book simply isn't good enough to stand alone. The writing has an unproffesional feel to it, but is still okay. Sam Fisher is potrayed well, but there are a small amount of slip-ups. Sam Fisher seems to curse a lot, which is something I certainly wouldn't expect from such a diciplined guy. The writing sometimes seems immature, like when Fisher describes a detailed fight scene where he knocks out a group of thugs. He follows the description with, "And I did all of it in 4.6 seconds". But the book has many plus sides, you get some insight into Fisher's personal side, such as where he lives and his relationship with his daughter. I wouldn't reccomend the book to those who aren't interested in the game. I also would not reccomend the book to children and preteens, as it contains a graphic sexual scene and severe language. The book is an accessory to the game, and should be treated as such. That being said, the book is a good read. | ||
