I've been a fan of GEG since the days they were known as Sojourn. I fondly remember seeing them at various venues around Philly... the Tin Angel being a favorite, and even the Borders shows! Yes... I love these guys. And this is far and away their best album. I remember looking forward to its release with almost unbearable anticipation. I'd been seeing them live for a long time, and really enjoyed their two self-released CDs. Listening to Eventide/The Passing of the Evening live was the highlight of every concert. But when this album was released, I was a bit surprised. They'd redone some songs from Further On...! And frankly, the new versions weren't as good! (Please get thee a copy of Further On... and listen to the "originals," especially "Something to Live For.") Even so, this was a very welcome album, and one they have yet to match. Yes, Painted Pictures was quite good. A Little Voodoo... well, not as good. Too quirky for me to actually love it, but I do like it. One thing that has always surprised me is the frequent comparison to October Project. I don't see much of a correlation, myself. I think they're closer to Fleetwood Mac than to October Project. But even more to the point: Why make comparisons at all? GEG is GEG. And that's not just a good thing... that's a great thing.
