I love this book but wish Penguin would put a bit more effort into a decent binding job. Charging $9.00 for a slim paperback that will often not survive a single reading in the hands of one of my students seems excessively high.

 | De Noche Vienes, Esmeralda |
 | "sexy and sweet, with whimsical humor" | 2007-04-23 |
Have never seen a Maria Rojo film before but bought this film on impulse. It is subtitled which is fine with me, I like foreign films, but has no chapters or special features. The film itself is very sweet; Rojo has great charm. She is also quite sexy and several of her husbands are bound to set some pulses racing as well. It does have some fairly frank nudity which isn't made clear on the DVD case. The story has charm and provided many smiles as well as a few outloud laughts. I will definitely be looking for more of Rojo's films.

 | "Capucine fans, alert" | 2004-02-15 |
The other reviews for this film have listed most of it's major flaws. It is indeed improbable that this group of people would become such close friends, and George Hamilton as a Frenchman strains credibility as much because of his public image as for any other reason. The thing that sets this movie apart for me is that it features a really good perfomance from Sam Wanamaker and the last good role (that I am aware of) for Capucine. I realize she is an actress of limited range, but I was always fond of her and enjoyed many of her movies. Most of her later career work amounts to cameo roles in productions not worthy of any name actress let alone one with her style and class. Her character has style, grace, compassion and courage, as I would like to believe the lady did herself. If you are a Capucine fan, I recommend this movie highly.

 | On Mexican Time : A New Life in San Miguel |
 | "Makes you feel at home." | 2003-09-13 |
I bought my copy of this book in San Miguel de Allende. I was on a two week trip, working with a mission group in a nearby village, but staying in a bed and breakfast in San Miguel and attending church services in a small neighborhood church. I loved the place, and the people and wondered what it would feel like to actually live in the region full time. With great humor, as well as love for the place and the those who inhabit it, Mr. Cohan let me know. This book is marvelously full of color, both in the descriptions of places, and in the feelings it gives. He captures much of what I felt as a urbanite suddenly finding himself in a much more peaceful much less hurried place. San Miguel de Allende is a magical place. Mr. Cohan's writings capture at least a portion of that and allowed me bring it home.
