![]() | Promises in Death (In Death) | |
![]() | "Finally..." | 2009-05-14 |
| I see some breaking of the mold! I have read all of the "in Death' books, and they all have one thing in common...three of four 'sex scenes between Dallas and her main man Roarke. I will say, the scenes are well written for the most part (you can tell Roberts also does romance novels) and there is something more than just casual sex, but it gets to a point where as a read you go..."Ok, we get it! They are both hot and they love each other, let's move on.." Promises in Death finally does that. Sure the sex is there, but it isn't page after page of glorifying it, and the writing is actually good! I even got a little teary at one point, which I like in a story like this. I want to feel invested, to feel something for the characters, and "Robb" finally is pulling some of her stronger writing skills to this series. I like that Eve was pushed out of her comfort zone, and had to go where she didn't want to-comforting a friend, hosting a bridal shower. The later offered some comic relief, the former served to make Eve seem like she has actually learned something from her husband and her partner. Great addition, and I hope to see the series continue on this path. | ||
| Sony PSP 2000 Console (Piano Black) | ||
![]() | "Portable gaming device that needs more games" | 2009-03-26 |
| Sony has delivered a great product. However, the game developers need to get busy. There are very few must have titles even though the promises and rumors continue to claim each year will be THE year. In any event, the hardware is well thought out and the software continues to be improved - although the fun and exciting features are typically scattered. The screen is large and bright and makes movies a joy to watch while traveling or sitting on public transit. The built-in wireless adapter and the software makes network connectivity simple. And the recent addition of access to the Playstation Store is a wonderful treat. The battery life has never been a problem for my usage. It would be great if the PSP had built-in storage space, but memory sticks are cheap enough these days to ignore such an oversight. | ||
| BlackBerry 8310 Curve Red Smartphone (AT&T) | ||
![]() | "Great phone and more" | 2009-03-26 |
| The BlackBerry Curve 8310 from AT&T has served us very well. Its feature-set and quality are superb. The keys are a bit small, but that is easy to live with. The screen is bright and colorful. The rollerball takes a little getting used to and should be cleaned at certain intervals, but we like it better than the side dial. The red is a great shade and makes the phone a little more attractive for those who care. There are plenty of applications for the BlackBerry, and for what it is meant to do, it does it with ease. Call quality is great. Push e-mail is what BlackBerry does best. Text messaging is simple. BB chat is nice if you know others with BlackBerries. We are not huge fans of the media player, but that is just a matter of taste. Make sure you get memory chip for extra storage. | ||
| Remanufactured Dyson DC 14 Full-Kit Upright Bagless Vacuum | ||
![]() | "Light and powerful" | 2009-03-26 |
| We saw the commercials. We looked at our carpets. We bought the Dyson. The primarily reason was its claims of being a good solution for pet hair and its ability to not get clogged. We were certainly tired of taking apart our previous vacuum to clear out clogs, so we were sold. We have two dogs who love to shed. And the Dyson does a wonderful job of cleaning up behind them - with very little hassle. It's super quiet, and its suction power is amazing. It's very quiet and the hose is plenty long for the stairway and strong enough to avoid tears. And it is certainly the lightest upright vacuum we've owned. It's easy to clean seeing as it is a bagless unit, and it's filter mechanism keeps dust from spraying everywhere when you clean up finer dirt or powders. We only dock it a star (we'd prefer a half star) because some of its components are a little weak and have broken on our unit - e.g., the power cord hook. Overall, it is an awesome vacuum and well worth the investment. | ||
| Little Tikes Climb & Slide Castle | ||
![]() | "Small and shaky, but fun!" | 2009-03-26 |
| We purchased this for our 1 year old and 4 year old sons. We thought it would be wonderful to have a small climbing and sliding contraption for them to play on in and out of the house. The boys love to climb on the unit and act as if they are kings of the world. As for sliding, it's a pretty short ride. So they don't get much out of the sliding. Even the 1yo reaches the end of the slide in a millisecond. And it's a rather sudden stop at the end. Our real worry stems from our 1yo climbing up on the unit and grabbing one of the sides. He will then start shaking it back and forth like he is King Kong or some terror. The manufacturer could have added more braces to the unit to make it more sturdy. Instead, it is held together by a few large plastic screws. And the slide just snaps into place. So, unlike the advertising picture with the kids playing on and under the unit, we ensure our children do not climb under when another is on top or sliding. While it stirs up a bit of concern, and we ensure a keen eye on them while playing, it has stood up to their vigorous activity on it. And they do love it being in the house. So we can't complain! | ||

| but I just didn't like this movie. I am a fan of Soderburgh..Traffic was a great movie, Erin Brokovich, Out of Sight, etc...but this movie just didn't do a whole lot for me. Honestly the best thing about this movie was the always wonderful Terrence Stamp. Peter Fonda was a joke, and the very underrated Luis Guzman wasn't given enough to do. I wanted to like this film, but I couldn't. My husband rented this from Netflix after reading an article stating this was one of the top ten movies for guys...my husband is a man's man...and he didn't like this movie either. Nope, I think it tried to be too much, it wanted to be an action movie, why through in the convoluted storytelling. It wanted to be a film noir, why through in the cheesy actions sequences. Lots of fine actors, but this film is overrated..period. Watch Momento for a better story, better directing, and better acting. | ||

| We have five boys, and we are always looking for movies that the whole family can enjoy. Our oldest is 14, we then have a 12, 9 and 4 year old, the baby can't enjoy a great movie yet, but in time I predict this will be a favorite. There were some very sophisticated jokes in this film, but there was enough slapstick to keep our younger boys entertained. The story moved along with enough momentum to keep us all interested, but not so slow that the younger boys lose interest. My older boys got a kick out of the premise, but the idea that we can be whatever we desire was not lost on them either, and isn't that a fine lesson for anyone to learn/and or remember? This was a great family movie, and I certainly think it lives up to Pixar's reputation, we are waiting with bated breath for Wall*E. Check this movie out...you won't be disappointed. | ||
| Knuffle Bunny : A Cautionary Tale | ||
![]() | "Our favorite!" | 2008-06-10 |
| LOVE this book. I can curl up day after day with my four year old and my five month old and giggle over this book. Sometimes, my four year old sits quietly while I read to him, other times he tells me what is going on complete with voices and lots of giggling. I like the way this book is illustrated as well, cartoon characters set against photographs of actual streets. Anyone with young children know they will often seize on a book and fall in love, wanting us to read it over and over again...I like that this book is simple enough for them to 'read along,' but the message is a sweet one....Daddy will do whatever he has to do to make his little one happy, and what child doesn't like to see Dad as the 'hero?' Without a doubt our favorite 'kids' book. | ||

![]() | "Well, really three and a half stars!" | 2005-07-31 |
| I have read all of Sue Margolis' books, and while I enjoyed this one, it just wasn't as engaging as her other novels. In this book we find our heroine Cynthia Fishbein attending therapy because she just isn't able to stand up for herself. Along the way, we meet her two best friends, Hugh and Harmony, we meet her many colorful work colleagues (as well as a frisky, foul-mouthed myna bird) and her loving family. Interspaced between this, she falls in love has a crisis at work, then a crisis with her new love, then another crisis at work, and then....all is well. Many people, myself included, want a happy ending with a romance novel, but I must say I just had a hard time getting into this book. However, the characters were engaging, and I laughed out loud more than once. Give this book a go-round, but look at Margolis' other books as well, especially Apocolipstick. Very funny! | ||
