We are Geotrax fanatics here. I buy mostly used off an auction site, but Santa sprung for this new because he thought it looked so great. It is great, but my 4yr old & 3yr old find it dull. You press a green button & the plane zooms in one direction. Red button it stops. Ok...now what? Hmm...press the green button again? How about just walk away from it & leave a 3 foot tall structure completely abandoned in the family room for weeks until mom puts it up on the auction site to get something more fun.
so..
Pros- excellent quality like all Geotrax. Built for hard play.
Cons- if your kids have lots of tracks, trains & other destinations this will get dull fast & you can't store it anywhere. It's just huge.

Rated 5 Stars"Shocked by toddler's interest" 2008-11-08
I watched this with my 3 yr old & 2 yr old sons. It is technical enough to interest an adult, yet they were just glued to the TV the entire time! They would watch it all day if I allowed it.
The video has multiple narrators, both children, males & females. I think that keeps their interest. It also bounces quickly from one topic to the next. It discusses space camp, astronaut training, experiments in space & much more. It seems a tad dated to the adult, but kids don't pick that up. It gives all kinds of facts that you will assume are rolling right over your toddler's head until he looks up into the night sky & states "maybe we can see the shuttle...it's 180 miles up from the ground" Then they will put their toy logs together & "drop their booster rockets when the fuel is used up" & send their toy boats to save them from the ocean depths. Amazing.
Highly recommend. I only wish there were more quality children's videos like this available.

I am surprised by the positive reviews of this toy by those who purchased it for a 3-5 year old. I bought it for my 3 year old (a very large boy & normal strength) He is unable to fit the pieces together. I have trouble with many. They fit VERY tight. He has broken several pieces by trying to shove them in or pull them apart. Other pieces fit much too loose.
What it has come down to is this...."mom can you please build me something with the Tinkertoys?"
Um....I have a better idea son, let's go buy a toy you can actually play with yourself. This is not the toy I remember from my youth.

Rated 5 Stars"Fantastic book!" 2008-03-03
This is the book for you if you have a child interested in space. My oldest son is 3 & loves this book. My youngest child is 1.5 & can already say "rocket!" & "astronauts", pronounced "ternuts & ockets"
The illustrations in this book are wonderful. They are actual photo type images of the Earth & moon with cartoon images imposed over them. The text is short, simple & perfect for early readers. It just catches their little imaginations.
This book also encourages imaginative play related to space. We have looked for moon rocks & taken many pretend space flights since buying this book. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Rated 3 Stars"Not for kids who have used a PC" 2008-02-26
I started my son on my home PC at age 2. At 36 months he is now proficient with a mouse & he can independently navigate a website such as PBS Kids. This product was given to us as a Xmas gift. Out of the box it was broken, so I had to do a return.
I liked the idea of getting him off my $1500 laptop. However, he lost interest in this product in 2 days. I purchased the additional Thomas software, but that failed to get him interested.
The problem is that the music, voice & graphics are all very 1980's. At $20 bucks a pop it's hard to believe the games are so lame. Yes, the format is educational, but you can not teach a toddler who has completely lost interest in the subject. You can buy Disney software for your PC for that price that is fantastic. My son has also gotten spoiled with the free game websites such as Noggin where characters are 3 dimensional & there are great audio effects.
However, I believe this would be fantastic for a child who does not have a home PC. The picture is clear. The voice is clear. It will teach them to use a mouse & locate keys on a keyboard. That is why I gave it a few stars. However, due to lack of interest ours is going on an auction site soon :)

Rated 2 Stars"Not great for big kids" 2008-01-13
I bought this because of the excellent reviews, so I felt it necessary to add my review that is not as positive.
My son is 3'3" & 30 pounds. (he is almost 3 yr old) He does fit on this potty, but it leaves horrible red marks in his inner thighs after only sitting on it a few minutes. It hurt his bottom so badly that he cried & said "oh mommy my legs!" It's not great to start potty training with a painful experience. He is now afraid of it.
I don't know if my son just has very sensitive skin or if it's because he is too big for the chair, but I switched to a soft seat that goes on the big toilet & we are trying that now. I wouldn't recommend this potty for larger children.

Rated 2 Stars"Cranky lost his head" 2007-11-17
Mom of 2 boys here. I'd say we could have put a down payment on a nice little bungalow for them in exchange for what we have spent on Thomas products, but hey....we need to relive our childhood.
The concept of Cranky is good. Design is bad
2 cranks, 1 for up, 1 for rotation
magnet will lift train cars & hotwheels cars if you kids are into that
Boys like it. Good for fine motor. Amuses them for a few minutes.
The problem is Cranky's head falls of if it is knocked over. I have glued his head back on 3 times with super glue (each time scrapping off the old glue to get the best hold) Head still falls off
My 3 year old calls the toy "headless cranky" because I have said he can't play with him until his head dries, that he is headless
I am not sure why they designed it for his head to break off. It could be made differently without effecting use.

The Three Little PigsThe Three Little Pigs
Rated 5 Stars"3 yr old loves this book" 2007-11-17
I will agree with the reviewer that states it is odd that the first page shows mom waving the pigs away with a hanky. However, I don't have a reader, so I made up my own version. I tell my son the pigs packed a lunch for a long day out playing. They got cold & decided to build some houses.
I really don't want to get into the possibility that they were accepted in college & mommy pig was sad because she was facing an empty nest. Perhaps she was worried about picking up her career where she left off.....
Summary: This book does a great job of telling a classic tale in a way that is fun & not scary for small children. The wolf looks silly. Illustrations are very nice. It is my son's current fav

Rated 3 Stars"Good, but not great" 2007-07-13
I bought this toy after reading fantastic reviews on another website. It's a lot of money for a trike, so I bought it with some worries.
We are not impressed after 6mo of ownership.
It was simple to put together if you read the instructions. I did it myself with the tools provided in the box in 30 minutes. It is sturdy once put together & I believe it will hold up well.
The problem is with function.

I loved the idea of being able to push my 2yr old guy around before he learned the pedals. What I did not consider is that he obviously doesn't know how to steer & because of that we are always driving off the sidewalk, spinning in tight circles or almost tipping over when he yanks the wheel to the side. The product doesn't imply you can steer it with the handle, so it's really no fault of the manufacturer.
I am not sure at all what the break would be used for. It seems pointless & only gets in the way of getting on/off the trike. The seat belt is nice, but it won't help in a tipping accident. The on/off wheel function does work very nicely. He can instantly start to pedal at any time.

At 2.5 yr he is now able to turn the wheels a bit more with instruction, but we still need a wide birth (like the driveway) to practice. He gets frustrated with it quickly & wants to get off. I guess that would be the case when any trike, but I certainly didn't need to spend this much to find that out! LOL

We also have another basic Kettler purchased from a yard sale & to be honest he prefers that one to this one.
Bottom line.....I didn't think this one out clearly. Wish I would have passed on it

Rated 5 Stars"Wonderful, fun & educational" 2007-07-13
My son was given this at age 1 for Xmas. By 2 years old he was able to sing the alphabet song & recognize every letter. I was shocked at 18 mo when he announced we were next to a "UPS" truck on the road!
I read to him , but had not worked with him on his alphabet. He learned it from this toy.
Each little figure plays a different verse of the Wheels on the Bus song when placed in the socket. It can also be switched so they speak or play an instrument. He just loves this toy.
This is a wonderful toy that has held his attention for countless hours over the last year. It is now being handed down to his brother & after many droppings & bangings....looks & works like new. The batteries also last a very long time.
Great toy......

Find-Me Tent & Tunnel CombinationFind-Me Tent & Tunnel Combination
Rated 5 Stars"Great pretend play house" 2007-07-10
My husband & I are huge fans of toys that blow up, pop up or can be put up/taken down. Toddlers seem to get bored with a toy after 5 minutes, so having the option of stashing toys away under beds etc....allows toy rotation & keeps the house picked up.
I purchased this off Ebay for much less then the retail price. The tunnel is played with daily by my 1yr old & 2.5 yr old. I put up the tent on rainy days.
The tunnel is very durable. I don't see it wearing out. I put it under my sofa each night & pop it up during the day.
The tent is also very durable, but the poles have a potential for short life. They are made to collapse (a good thing) but I am sure they could still snap easily if a child fell onto the tent. I monitor my children when they play with this because I have a 1yr old & I fear suffocation if it were to collapse on him.
The tent has many areas that velcro & an area that zips. Both situations severely frustrate my 2 yr old who can not operate either option. I put the tent away for a week & then tied up the zipper section & put extra velro over the latches so they will not fasten. He has forgotten about those things now & all is well again.
My boys sit in it at night & play with flashlights. They look at books in it & have "tea parties" or as my husband prefers..."camp outs" :)
I believe this tent would be an excellent outdoor option. The venting at the top allows for airflow. You could just put a tarp over it if it rained.

A good toy.

I feel sorry for the child's mother who won't listen to this CD because she doesn't like it.
I took the vow of motherhood before getting pregnant....I will watch Oobie & enjoy it....I will play in mud puddles & enjoy it....you get the idea
Is this CD a replacement for my adult music? Ugh, no.
Does my 2 yr old son say "school bus song!!" excitedly every time we head for the car? Yes.....
My kids LOVE this CD. They relate to the silly, (& as complained about) sometimes off key singing. They also love the true toddler voices that are mushy sounding just like their own newly developing vocabulary.
My son listens so intently that he could recite all the songs in the first week. Adorable.

Rated 2 Stars"Great promise, does not deliver" 2007-03-14
I bought this after reading these reviews hoping for a fun new game for my 2 year old. He has already mastered the mouse, colors, numbers, alphabet & has several other preschool games.
This game is absolutely dull. The graphics are great, but it only holds his attention for a few minutes. The problem is that each section takes too long to load. Once loaded you have to listen to a VERY long discussion on each area. BORING! He looked at me & asked "play Elmo instead?"
He enjoys the free Sesame Street & Noggin websites much better then this game. Learning should be fun. I am very sorry I purchased this CD

Thankfully I bought this on clearance. You get what you pay for!
The format & information on the disk is wonderful. My 2 yr old son loves the voices, bright colors & games. The problem is the disk program is terrible. It jams, skips & now the audio has quit! How sad for my son because it was his favorite. Shame on Disney for putting out such a piece of junk

I bought this toy on an auction site well below retail prices. I really don't see what the fuss is about. I think it's a waist of plastic & paper.
The books have very limited value from an educational stand point.

If you want a sound effects box (electronic babysitter) that your child can mindlessly play with then this is the toy for you.
I normally love Leapfrog, but I really believe they missed the mark with this toy. I will be putting our toy immediately back up for auction.

Rated 4 Stars"Not for grass" 2006-04-13
My son was so excited when I pulled this out of the box at age 15 months. He proceeded to "mow" the driveway for an hour. Then he decided to head for the grass.
Problem- this mower is obviously not intented for grass. It just stops dead & won't push in even the shortest of grass (the wheels are just too small & it's too low to the ground) I would put him back on the drive & he would run it to the grass & cry that it would not go across it like daddy with his mower. He did this about a zillion times.
It's now been cleaned up & made an inside only (basement) toy (to spare mommies nerves) He really loves it inside (now that he has gotten over the emotional trauma of not being able to mow real grass with it :)

Cross Country Carrier with Canopy in Light BrownCross Country Carrier with Canopy in Light Brown
Rated 3 Stars"Not good for heavy kids- little moms" 2005-10-29
I bought this due to the fab reviews found here. I was very disappointed with the product. I took it on a difficult hike with lots of inclines. My son is 25 pounds& 32". I am 5'6" & 110 pounds. I consider myself in very good shape. I have carried heavy packs on my back many times.

My son loved riding in the thing. He never fussed. However, I had to stop several times & take him off me! I had terrible pain in my shoulders & neck. (pain that lasted days after the hike) I felt no support from the waist belt at all. I tried various adjustments without help. (there are 3 waist height adjustments yet the shoulder belts just did not sit right on my small frame)

I suppose if you were taking a gentle stroll through an airport or shopping mall- this may work, but for the serious hiker & those that are small like myself- I do not recommend it. I also found it difficult to put on/ take off as a solo hiker.
I gave it 3 stars due to the fact my 6 foot tall husky hubby found it very comfortable.

I will be selling this on EBay & buying a Kelty.

Snoogle Total Body PillowSnoogle Total Body Pillow
Rated 2 Stars"Not fit for everyone" 2004-08-16
I am so much trouble getting into a restful sleep position at 6 months...I loved the idea of this pillow & the good reviews. I am 5'6" & 130 pounds. I have a large belly, yet I am small in size. I am normally a side sleeper.
The shape of this pillow did not fit my body correctly(because of the pre-shaped curves) If you put the head curve under your head your arm will fall asleep & I normally sleep with my arm under my head, so I don't get it. My belly was not supported & I still woke up with back pain.
It takes up way too much room in a queen size bed, pushing dad 2 be almost to the floor! I still found myself wanting to flip & could not do so without constantly waking my husband.
I think this pillow may work for some, yet not for me. I will just stick with multi-pillow props.
