The Game of Life: SpongeBob SquarePants EditionThe Game of Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition
Rated 4 Stars"Good for younger kids as well." 2007-07-29
I got this game for my 5 year old twin girls. I thought it might be a bit too much as it is recommend for 7+, but they seem to really like playing this game. With a little help reading some of the cards, they very quickly picked up on the games concepts, and have gotten good at counting money! - and understanding the value of money. It also presents basic strategy skills and life decisions (job decisions, pets, homes, etc.), though there is no marriage/kids option in this version.
Overall, the board, layout, parts, etc. are attractive and well designed.

Rated 1 Stars"Gave up on this after 3 tracks" 2007-07-29
My girls, who are 5 now, have listend to Robin Speilberg's Beautiful Dreamer since birth (along with some classical selections), which they really like. I was looking for something else to try and thought what better choice than classic Beatles songs set as instrumentals. These are poor renditions of beetles songs. I'm not a musical expert, but it sounds as if the musicians themselves are falling asleep. Any bedtime music for kids should be interesting while relaxing, and this just sounds boring. Makes Beautiful Dreamer sound even better after hearing this. Unfortunately for those trying to find it, it's not currently sold on Amazon.

Rated 4 Stars"Good 70's Thriller" 2007-03-08
For me, the best thing about this movie is that it was filmed at actual amusement parks - one which no longer exists, and the climatic sequence at Kings Dominion. For those who went to the park back in the 1970's, they'll appreciate what the park was like back then - which was a fun amusement park that had all the characters kids loved back then...Scooby, Flinstones, Yogi, Huckleberry Hound, Jetsons, Quick Draw, and just a very big Hana Barbara theme. Though there are more "thrill" rides there today, there is less magic. Scooby Doo is the only carryover.

Aside form this, it's a decent film. Actually the best of all the 70's disaster films, but will seem dated for younger viewers. But definitely worth viewing if you went to the Parks back then, or are interested in seeing what the parks use to be like.

Billy Preston - Ultimate CollectionBilly Preston - Ultimate Collection
Rated 4 Stars"Great Songs, Great Afro!" 2002-01-04
This is the only CD you need in your collection for Billy Preston. It has all his best work. Of course, "will it go 'round in circles" and "nothing from nothing" are two fabulous hits which don't seem nearly as dated as other music from the early 70's. The CD also presents some other intersting numbers from Preston that sound like some sort of "techno-funk" if there is such a thing.

Baby Minds : Brain-Building Games Your Baby Will LoveBaby Minds : Brain-Building Games Your Baby Will Love
Rated 4 Stars"Good book for developing baby's mind" 2002-01-04
This book recommends what types of stimulus help to promote optimal mental and emotional development. It's laid out fairly well and it a quick read. Use this book as a supplement to other baby mind books you'll get. What I like best about this book is at the end, it summarizes (in chart form) all the things you should be doing with the baby and at what age (such as what type of stimulus you should be giving the baby and what areas of cognitive or emotional development it stimulates). Again, get this in conjunction with other books, such as my favorite, "What's Going On In There?".

Rated 4 Stars"Great Little Book for the Price" 2001-03-03
This is a short, quick read. Not by any means in-depth, but it touchs on all the highlights and keys points of leadership. Good for inexperienced leaders as well as seasoned leaders (to remind us of all those things we know but tend to forget sometimes).

Ruth Brown - A Good Day For The Blues *Ruth Brown - A Good Day For The Blues *
Rated 3 Stars"Good, But Not Her Best" 2001-03-03
This CD is okay, but Ruth doesn't shine on this CD as much as others. There are some really good tracks on this CD, but a few silly ones. However, I've listened to quite a bit of Ruth's music, so my opinion may be colored by my experience with other albums. Better CDs include "Live in London", "Fine & Mellow", and maybe even "Blues on Broadway". Ruth is one of the greatest female vocalists ever.

Ruth Brown - Live in LondonRuth Brown - Live in London
Rated 5 Stars"Superb" 2001-03-03
Ruth Brown at her best. Excellent rendition of "I've Got the World on A String" with nice sax solo. Her best version of "5-10-15 Hours" that I've heard. And her vocals on "Since I Fell For You" are stunning. Some songs may take a few listens to grow on you, but it won't be long before the whole album connects beautifully. Fabulous CD for setting just the right "mood" with that special someone. I've had a lot of success with this one. :-)

The O'Reilly Factor: The Good, the Bad, and the Completely Ridiculous in American LifeThe O'Reilly Factor: The Good, the Bad, and the Completely Ridiculous in American Life
Rated 3 Stars"Entertaining" 2001-03-03
Some of O'Reilly's points are very well-made, and his point of view is interesting on some topics. The verbiage and writing style throughout the book are a bit simple (which may appeal to some). Overall, I enjoyed the book. The book seems to be a autobiography as much as anything else. Take out all the anecdotes and O'Reilly's "I had it so tough" life stories, and the book would be much shorter. Perhaps, however, this gives perspective to his ideas. I enjoyed Larry Elder's book more-"Ten Things You Can't Say in America" (though it's a bit more scholary).

Joe Williams - That Holiday Feelin'Joe Williams - That Holiday Feelin'

Excellent renditions of some holiday classics and some seldom heard gems as only Joe could do. Truly music that will enhance your holidays.

Mr. Elder is right on target, offering common sense, logical analysis. However, if you're a die hard liberal, this book may raise your blood pressure. Common sense and truth often do.

Rated 2 Stars"Did I get the wrong CD?" 2001-02-25
Everyone loves this CD. All ratings were positive, which is why I bought it. "Conjures up images of Hawaii" said many. Well, I thought I went to Hawaii, but maybe I was somewhere else. The music I heard in Hawaii was much more hula, waves, palm trees, pineapples, bury the pig in the sand kind of music. Perhaps the people who reviewed this know a lot more about real hawaiian music, and maybe this really is some good stuff. I jumped all over 3 major islands in Hawaii, and never heard anything like this. The Felix Mendholson CD [...] is more like what I heard in Hawaii.

Joe Williams - Jazz Round MidnightJoe Williams - Jazz Round Midnight
Rated 4 Stars"Jazz Round Midnight-Joe Williams" 2000-11-02
I first saw Joe Williams at Blues Alley in DC in 1991, then twice later at the Kennedy Center. He was not only a great singer, but a wonderful entertainer. To see him live was truly a memorable experience. He had great wit and sincerity. This CD is excellent for, as the title states, listening to jazz in the late evenings - particularly with that "someone special" Very good tracks with "You Showed Me The Way" and "Hundred Years..." being my favorite. I have some of Joe's Count Basie CDs (which are good), but this is more low key. Great with a glass of chardonay after a long day.

Ruth Brown - Fine And MellowRuth Brown - Fine And Mellow
Rated 5 Stars"Ruth Brown - Fine & Mellow" 2000-11-02
I had never heard of Ruth Brown until I stumbled upon her fortuitously one night back in 1993 at Blues Alley in Washington, DC. - I was very impressed, and moved by her amazing voice. You don't just hear her sing, you feel her passion. This CD has some very good tracks: #6, "Knock me a Kiss"; #8, Don't get around much anymore; #9, "Nothing Takes the Place of You" - her vocals on this track are spectactular; and, #10, "I'll be Satisfied" - incredible Hammond B-3 organ. If you like good quality jazz/blues vocals, this will "satisfy".
