| Fiskars 78616984 Axe and Knife Sharpener | ||
![]() | "Good for the Price" | 2009-09-14 |
| If you are looking for a good sharpener in this price range then this is it. It does a good job on my Fiskars Chopping Axe. I am not sure how good it would do on knives. I have only used it on my axe. But for the price this is a good sharpener. | ||
| Original Soundtrack - The Wicker Man | ||
![]() | "A Great CD" | 2006-06-27 |
| Anyone who has seen the movie The Wicker Man knows how great the music is and how important it was in setting the mood of the movie. That great experience is carried over into this CD. If you enjoyed the music in the movie or like folk music this CD is a great addition to your collection. The CD is very nicely packaged, coming in a slip box case with beautiful artwork. The box holds the CD case as well as a little book that provides information about the movie and the music. It is a nice read for any fan. The CD case also contains a fold out of a movie poster on one side as well as a few smaller ones on the backside. The music is beautiful, enjoyable, and diverse. This really is a must have for any one who likes the movie and will make a beautiful addition for anyone who just likes the music. | ||
| Brian Lumley's Freaks | ||
![]() | "Nice Collector's Book for a Lumley Fan" | 2006-06-26 |
| If you are a Brian Lumley fan then this book is a must have. It is numbered and signed by both the author and artist who did the artwork on the cover and throughout the book. The book contains a few interesting short stories with the central theme being freaks, though Lumley will leave you wondering who truly are the freaks. If you are not a big Brian Lumley fan looking for a collector's item then this book is probably not for you. The stories are great in true Lumley fashion, but at 82 pages the price of this book it is probably not worth it for someone just looking for something to read. | ||
| Linux for Non-Geeks | ||
![]() | "Great Place to Start with Linux" | 2006-06-16 |
| If you want to learn to use Linux for your desktop computer but are not intested in indepth technical jargon then this is the book for you. It is written in simple, easy to understand "non-geek" English so that the average computer user can understand what is going on. Anyone should be up and running Linux in a short time. And by running Linux I mean doing all the things you want to do on the computer. This book focuses on teaching the average home user how to do the things you want to do like customizing your desktop and icons, surfing the net, playing your CD's and mp3's, downloading and installing games and software (all for free), and much more. Even after using Linux for a few years I still use this book for reference if I need to look something up. I would like to say one thing. I bought this book right after it was released in 2004. Since then Linux has come a long way. This book comes with Fedora Core 1 and Fedora Core is now up to release 5 (at the time of this writing). Now there is really no reason to feel like you have to have the newest release because there are lots of people still running 1 (or older versions) but if you are running a newer computer with new hardware there might be a chance that Fedora Core 1 will not have drivers for the newest stuff. I say this not to discourage anyone from buying this book, but rather to let people know that if the CD this book comes with does not work with your computer you did not waste your money. Your next best option would be to find the newest release of Fedora by either free download or buying it cheaply somewhere online. This may well solve your problem and if not check out the many forums for Linux as people are always willing to help and are very friendly. This book is still great and I highly recommend it, but it would be really nice if a new updated edition would be released. Edit 2/6/07: I felt the need to edit this review. Everything I have said still stands, but this book along with the software it walks you through is dated. Fedora Core 1 is no longer supported. I said that it would be really nice if a new updated edition would be released and it looks like there has been, though as another book. I have not read this new book but it might be a better place to start since it uses more up to date software. The book is called Ubuntu Linux for Non-Geeks by the same author. I would advice you to look into it before purchasing this book. | ||
| Mantra Girl Presents - An Introduction to Kundalini Yoga and Chanting | ||
![]() | "A Great Yoga DVD" | 2006-06-06 |
| Mantra Girl Presents - An Introduction to Kundalini Yoga and Chanting is a great yoga DVD and has remained my favorite. This DVD is relaxing focusing on breathing with some meditation and chanting whiling giving you a good workout. Set outside the scenery is beautiful and Mantra Girl's music throughout the workout is just amazing. Good instruction is given before each exercise making this a good introduction for someone new to yoga. This will give you a good workout, possibly too much if you are out of shape, but you should be able to take your time and work up to Erin's pace. So this can be a DVD you will use for awhile. I know I have. Afterwards you will feel like you had a good workout and feel very relaxed. I will also add that this is great for the back if you sit at a desk all day like I tend to do for my job. My back would hurt after work but after I started using this DVD it has felt better than it ever has before. The only negative, as others have said, is that the DVD has no menus. All you can do is put this in your DVD player and let it play through. This is not really bad because you probably don't want to skip around anyway as the workout was not made in such a way, but more like attending a class. The only thing I would like to see is an option to play through without all the instruction, as after you have heard it a few times it can be a bit annoying hearing it every time you play the DVD since you already know what to do. Even so this remains my favorite yoga DVD and I highly recommend it. | ||
| Neverwinter Nights: The Shadows of Undrentide - Windows | ||
![]() | "Great Expansion!" | 2006-05-10 |
| The Shadows of Undrentide is the first expansion for Neverwinter Nights. It adds new spells, monsters, tile sets, prestige classes, and skills and feats, all of which enrich the Neverwinter Nights experience. The campaign that comes with this expansion is by far much better than the original Neverwinter Nights. The story has nothing to do with the one in the first game, other than a brief mention of what is going on in Neverwinter. It is still interesting none the less. You have much more flexibility with your character this time around so you can play as good, evil, lawful, or chaotic as you want. You also have more choices on how to handle things. Your character choice also can have more influence on the game, such as Druids and Rangers can actually communicate with animals. This is my favorite expansion. I find the story to be very enjoyable and fun. | ||
| Neverwinter Nights | ||
![]() | "A Good, Fun RPG" | 2006-05-09 |
| The Neverwinter Nights game series is one of my all time favorite, if not favorite, games. It's strength lies in it's diversity. This is not just one single player game nor is it just one multiplayer game. It can be about anything you want it to be. The game comes with one story to play through with many side quests. The game is massive, which is good and bad. Sometimes things seem to drag on, but then they pick up again. Overall it is a good story that will take up a lot of your time and keep you entertained. Once you have completed the main campaign, unlike in most games, things are not over. You still have many choices. Since you get to create your own character and shape it how you want, you can always play through again with a character completely different than the one you just played. One negative to the story the game comes with though is that regardless of your character the story does not change much if at all, only how your character handles things. If you tire of that story you can download countless others that have been created by other creative players or Bioware. These vary in style and quality but there are many good campaigns out there to entertain you, all for free. Though Bioware does have some that you can pay to download, all player created content is free. Think you have a good idea for a campaign? Think you can do better than Bioware or others? Then go for it! Neverwinter Nights comes with a toolset that has everything you need to create your own stories and worlds. Tired of playing single player games by yourself? Then just connect to the internet and look through the many campaigns or persistent worlds that other players have created and are playing 24/7, all for free. Chances are you will find some place that feels right to you. Or create your own and have others enter your world and be at your mercy. Neverwinter Nights is over 4 years old now. This should not put anyone off from buying this game. In fact it is a big plus. It means it is cheaper now than it was when it was new. There is still a good community with plenty of content to find to download. Most if not all the bugs you might have read about have been worked out by now, and work arounds have been made for things that were found limiting originally. Bioware has not left the game alone either as an update was just recently released and they have released new campaigns to download. Being older the graphics may not be top notch for today's standards, but they are still very pleasing with beautiful scenery whether you are walking through a zombie infested city or taking a nice stroll through an autumn woodland. For what you get with Neverwinter Nights it is well worth the price. If you want to get the most out of the game though you really need to buy all the expansions. Buy Neverwinter Nights alone if you want to just take a test drive but if you want to really get the most out of the game spend the few extra dollars and get the bundled packages that include all the games and be sure to check out the Bioware forums. | ||
| Improve Your Vision Without Glasses or Contact Lenses | ||
![]() | "Buy This Book!" | 2006-04-28 |
| I have had this book for awhile now but I have been lazy about actually putting a lot of effort into the practice. I can just be lazy. But even so, with the little effort I have put into doing the exercises I have seen my sight improve. To others it might not be anything miracle worthy but to me it means a lot. When I first started I could not even seen the computer screen clearly without my glasses or contacts. Now I can sit at my desk and productively work without them. And the clarity keeps improving. This book teaches you how to see again the proper way and teaches you about the eyes. I have asked a few eye doctors over the years why eye sight fails and they have been honest enough to admit they honestly don't really know. I appreciate their honesty but is this good science? This book gives answers, which you may be surprised to learn are not new just ignored. For the price this book is definitely worth buying. The information on the eyes and the exercises which will make your eyes feel healthier and not so tired and stressed are well worth it even if your eyesight never improves, which I believe if you even try it will. Don't expect fast results though. Progress may be slow, but if you stick with it you just might be well rewarded. | ||
| The Howling: New Moon Rising | ||
![]() | "No negative stars?" | 2005-09-14 |
| Ok, I enjoy watching the B-est of B flicks. I like cheesy low budget films. This does not even classify as a B flick. This is the worst movie I have ever seen. I could not even watch the entire thing (rare for me), though not from a lack of trying. The entire time in this movie people are just standing around in a bar telling bad jokes that you have heard a million times. Then for no reason they will cut to a scene with people line dancing to country western music in a dark room with light shining in through an open door. When they finally did get around to having a werewolf scene it was not remotely scary, horror like, or even cheesy. It was just sad. I would advise avoiding this movie like the plague, though the plague would probably be more fun. | ||
| A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners | ||
![]() | "Rather Rushed for Beginners" | 2005-08-12 |
| This DVD would be good if you are already experienced with yoga and have a busy schedule in which you want to squeeze in about a 20 minute secession in the morning, evening, or both. On the other hand if you have very little to no yoga experience I would not suggest this one. I don't think this is really for beginners as the title suggests. It moves much too fast for a beginner with little instruction. They do briefly tell you want to do as they are doing it but there is no time for someone new to get use to it as things just keep moving right on most likely faster than someone new would like. This DVD is ok, but I find myself using others more often and I would suggest other DVDs for beginners that take more time such as Mantra Girl Presents - An Introduction to Kundalini Yoga and Chanting. | ||
| The Multi-Orgasmic Man: Sexual Secrets Every Man Should Know | ||
![]() | "A Must Read" | 2002-05-22 |
| This is one of the best books I have ever read. This will definitely change your life and how you view sex and life in general. What this book teaches must be practiced to be effective. But it does not require years to see results. If you are looking for a more meaningful love and sex life then this book will teach you how to find it. The ideas come from the East but the book is written so the average Western mind can understand the concepts. If you are looking for just a quick trick then this book is not for you. But if you are looking for a change then pick this book up, open your mind, and expand your world. You will not be sorry. This book changed my life for the better and I strongly suggest it to anyone. Though it is written towards men, there is a chapter for women. Anyone of either sex will find this book helpful. Couples will find a lot of enjoyment from reading it together. | ||
