The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition)The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition)
Rated 5 Stars"Favorite New Classic Disney" 2009-05-26
The circle of life. It's funny how an old African tale taken by Disney and made into this film captures some of life's truths and shows some of the great sadness and joy most people experience as they repeat the steps of those that came before.

Death and loss, love, birth, great friendship, responsibility, loyalty, betrayal, evil, bravery, and more are shown in the transformation of these creature characters as well as the land itself.

Following the birth of Simba, seeing some of his childhood adventures, his self banishment, his upbringing with a wort hog and meercat, going back to face his fears, and the interaction of his family, friends, and subjects is very well done.

The animation is incredible. Still before Pixar and mostly computer animation. Music and score are also incredible with several catchy and fun tunes, a great love song, African flavored beats and chants, and touching instrumentals.

The Lion King is in the group of Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin as what I consider 'Modern Day.' Disney classics where it was still hand animation with artists before Pixar and computers took over.

There still isn't a Pixar film that feels the same as classic Disney or the 4 films listed above.

Rated 3 Stars"Simpsons sure have changed" 2009-05-26
Bought this for a kick of nostalgia. It's funny to look at the first season and see the change in the looks of all the characters and the evolution of the show. A classic TV staple that helped turn Fox into a viable network against what was once the big 3 networks.

This movie has a great cast with a decent story. Wouldn't think Ocean's 12 would be made and once was enough. Entertaining enough to sit through once, but the DVD is a bit of a waste because I don't see myself watching this film again.

This works well for zesting citrus, creating small cheese shreds, or functions of this sort. It is one of those tools that is not often used, especially if you don't use much citrus zest, but you are glad to have it when needed.

The Up In Smoke TourThe Up In Smoke Tour
Rated 4 Stars"Hard Hitting Show" 2009-05-26
Offers a good look into the tour with several great songs from Dre and Snoop with just a small sampling of Cube and Eminem. The sound quality at times is spotty and the camera does jump quite a bit, but it is an enjoyable performance.

Wall StreetWall Street
Rated 4 Stars"Greed is Good?" 2009-05-26
The SEC in this 1980's film is far more effective than the SEC of 2008, but this is a film and the SEC was pretty much worthless back then too. Trust is the basis for business, not greed. When you can't trust financial statements, CEO and executives consistently lie, and you reward incompetence then the system fails.

You look at a movie like WallStreet and realize not much is different from the 80's. The cycles repeat, there is no limit to human greed, it is far easier for a good person to go bad than a bad person to ever go good and it is a bit depressing.

It's funny looking at Wall Street with the green text monitors, brick cell phones, 80's style excess, and everything is dated, but you also realize the movie's story and warnings are the same today in 2009.

Britney Spears - Time Out With Britney SpearsBritney Spears - Time Out With Britney Spears
Rated 4 Stars"When Britney was a young singer and not a nut" 2009-05-26
Britney at this time was a girl, developing into a woman. Her handlers crafted an image of a girl who is discovering her own sex appeal, while singing sugar coated pop songs.

It was a good formula and some of the bubble gum pop of this time period was catchy and fit right in with the other musical of it's type. Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Christina Aguilera, 98 Degrees, and all the other music of this type were from a far more innocent time before 9/11, the dot com bust, and the problems of 2008+.

Great for fans of Britney or for folks who want to remember back and think about how much things have changed in 10 years.

Rated 2 Stars"Get complete collection" 2009-05-26
I paid top dollar for Generation 1 and 3 of Robotech when they first came out on DVD. I'm a big fan and was waiting for years hoping the DVD's would be released. Almost bought the VHS tapes, but held off for these DVD's.

Of course, since that time the series has been released at least 2 more times in different formats. There is one complete collection with all 3 generations in one set for $90 or so. That is the one that fans should buy.

The Living DaylightsThe Living Daylights
Rated 4 Stars"Dalton is under rated as 007" 2009-05-26
Each Bond actor gets to throw their own interpretation at the character. Many people didn't like Timothy Dalton, but I felt he did a credible job and created quite an enjoyable Bond. His toughness and edge were believable, he handled the tongue in cheek humor well, and had a slight vulnerable side that gave his romantic encounters some realism.

Living Daylights has just the right combination of spy thriller, mystery, romance, action, gadgets, and excitement.

The story has several holes and the main villain is a bit of a joke, but then again it's better than the cliche super villain who has to spend 5 minutes patiently explaining his plan of world domination to Bond instead of just shooting him and then putting Bond in restraints while 'sharks with lasers on their heads,' circle the tank below.

This is an entertaining Bond adventure that holds true to Ian Fleming's vision of his character and I really enjoyed the movie and have watched it several times.

OctopussyOctopussy
Rated 4 Stars"Great Movie" 2009-05-26
Roger Moore is the more effeminate, campy, and harder to believe James Bond, but at the same time he has a humor, style, and elegance that Dalton and Craig just don't possess.

Moore's films were far more true to Ian Flemming and the entire spirit of Bond, but Ian Fleming probably never would have imagined his cold war spy/lady killer would evolve into so many movies and even go so far as to have Craig be 007 at the beginning of his career.

So you go from a 1950's viewpoint of spying in the cold war where pen lights and silencers were high tech to Craig's Bond of 2005+ with computers, cell phones, different first loves, and shaken, not stirred is a scorned phrase.

The good thing is if you like Spy films and 007, there should be a Bond that suit's your fancy. I'm sure moving from Sean Connery to Moore was seen as a farce and disaster as well.

You either like music/rap like this or it grates on your nerves. This is an excellent follow-up to The Chronic and delivers raps of the same high quality with catchy beats, interesting lyrics, and dance worthy music.

George Foreman GR10AWHT Champ GrillGeorge Foreman GR10AWHT Champ Grill
Rated 2 Stars"Go Propane" 2009-05-26
The thing with George Foreman, stovetop pan grills, and electric grills in general is they may put what sort of looks like 'grill,' marks on the food, but it isn't real grilling. It is fast, healthy, and you can make some good tasting stuff, but you can do the same with a non-stick pan.

These things are not easy to clean. The flavor isn't there as well, so I threw mine away.

It's a great idea in many ways, made George far more money than even his boxing, but I'd suggest a mini propane grill as the best compromise between electric and charcoal/wood.

Top Gun (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition)Top Gun (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition)
Rated 5 Stars"I Feel the Need, the Need for Speed!" 2009-05-24
Top Gun made so many people want to become fighter pilots. As a movie it was probably one of the best promotional tools the Navy and armed forces ever had and the spike in enrollment for years was measurable. Of course there were very few who became pilots or even RIO's and probably ended up in crap roles and not even on an carrier, but I digress.

It's strange to look at the film now and see the outdated old Ninja motorcycle, know that F-14's are no longer in service, Top Gun itself doesn't exist, Anthony Edwards is bald, and Tom Cruise is a Scientology freak.

People also comment on the 'homo-erotic,' volley ball scene, but I prefer to think that there are many more straight women who enjoyed that one scene in a guy's film vs homosexual males.

Top Gun as a film is out dated, but it is still fun to watch and feel like I'm a little kid again who thinks that one day I could be a fighter pilot. It's a film locked in a period of time in US history that has come and gone, but it still makes me smile.

Aladdin (Special Edition)Aladdin (Special Edition)
Rated 5 Stars"New Classic Disney Era" 2009-05-24
The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast were all part of the Disney revival. Right before Pixar and the huge advances in computer animation these Disney movies have a look, character, and beauty that is hard to beat.

Aladdin follows the classic fairy tale for the most part and like the other 3 movies mentioned above the music and score are also incredible. Voice talent was well matched and the humor from Robin Williams and Gilbery Gottfried gave a spark to the movie.

Taylor Digital Oven Thermometer/TimerTaylor Digital Oven Thermometer/Timer
Rated 4 Stars"Excellent Thermometer" 2009-05-24
I used this as a timer, have used it to track smoker temperature outside, several roasts and such in the oven, and to test internal temp on chicken, pork, turkey, beef roasts etc.

It is very convenient being able to set a target temp and have the alarm go off, so you can just sit back and relax vs., checking every 15 minutes with a stick in thermometer.

Was worried the probe or wire would melt, but they are rated to over 400 degrees and although discolored now, they are not worn through or have any sort of breaks and tears in the wiring.

I also have one of those probe thermometers by Taylor. The battery died in less than a year and when I tried to open it up and change batteries the screw cover snapped a part and would not lock closed.

This Taylor thermometer has been 10x better.

The Princess BrideThe Princess Bride
Rated 4 Stars"Classic Fairy Tale" 2009-05-24
This is one of those movies that surprised me. I really didn't believe this would be a film that would hold my interest, much less turn into a favorite.

Like many 80's films it shows it's age, but the humor still shines through and the jokes, characters, gags, and story still work.

This is an excellent film to share with a child, girlfriend, or as a family.
