![]() | "I really didn't think this would be so good." | 2008-11-03 |
| Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr.) is an arms manufacturer dealing with the military. During an ambush in Afghanistan, he is injured by taking shrapnel to the chest and taken hostage. While he is imprisoned, he creates an iron suit to escape. He then perfects his suit and tries to repair the damage his weapons have created. The biggest problem with the Iron Man character always has been finding the right villian. A superhero can only truly excel when he has a charasmatic enemy. Unfortunately, Ironman never really had that in my view and it carried to this. Sure he had a few interesting villians but none were as captivating to me as Magneto, Green Goblin, or even Venom. Still, Ironman was a great translation to film and wasn't only about mindless violence. The action scenes are the bread and butter without a doubt. Excellent special effects and very entertaining. The acting was excellent and I don't really think anyone else could have played Tony Stark better. And I never really thought Jeff Bridges could have pulled off The Iron Monger. But he did a very good job at it. There is also a nice blend of comedy and a pretty good soundtrack. It's hard to believe fans of the comic would be disappointed with this one. If you were a Marvel fanboy back in the day. Then do yourself a favor and pick this up. Also, watch the movie past the credits for a little cameo surprise. This single edition contains previews, a short preview of the Ironman animated series, deleted scenes, and extended scenes. I recommend picking up the two disk edition if you really care for extras. | ||

![]() | "Not as hellacious as I remember but still somewhat decent" | 2008-09-11 |
| Linda Blair stars as a college student Marti. Together with three other friends she has to spend the night in a house with a brutal history for an initiation. What started as a mere gag turned into a night of fighting for survival.br /br /Hell Night is an 80's slasher that could mostly appeal to Linda Blair fans. This is one of the reasons I keep it around but it doesn't add to the rating or my overall enjoyment. This to me is a movie that could have been a little better.br /br /I give it some credit for actually trying to give the characters some personality and the setting was fair. I also liked the fact the characters reactions were pretty realistic. Once they realized things were serious. They ACTUALLY tried to get out the house. br /br /Now I don't find this movie scary in the slightest and I never did, even as a kid. The death scenes weren't really good and the gore was very limited as well. I'm also not ok with the non existent nudity. If you're going to have hot chicks with skimpy outfits. Atleast go that route.br /br /Hell Night is a slightly decent slasher and nothing more to me. I recommend this to the easily pleased and Linda Blair fans.br /br / | ||

![]() | "A rare gem from way back then" | 2008-09-05 |
| James Farantino stars as a sherrif named Dan Gillis who is investigating some brutal murders. The victims are out of towners passing through Potter's Bluff. Things take a turn for the weird, when new faces begin to appear resembling the victims. Dead & Buried doesn't waste a bit of time revealing who the killers are. You learn who they are very quick. One may think to themselves, "well there goes the suspense." Despite this very quick give away. The suspense was still the best feature for me. I was mostly gripped dying to know what the killers motives are. To include the purpose of the wild events taking place. Dead & Buried does a very good job keeping the viewer in the dark until its wild conclusion. The film had some minor creepy moments but nothing scary at all. Others may experiance something different. The special effects were very well done and the gore was decent at best. I didn't find the acting stellar but it was passable to me. I found Dead & Buried to be a very entertaining film and I mostly recommend this to die hard horror buffs. The bonus disc was a nice addition as well. It contains featurettes with Robert Englund and Dan O' Bannon. I mostly got into the featurette by Stan Winston going into detail on the special effects. I found this to be the most enjoyable of the entire disc. The two disc set is definitly the way to go. | ||
| Let Sleeping Corpses Lie | ||
![]() | "One of the best zombie films ever made." | 2008-09-02 |
| The main characters George and Edna meet each other through a very minor traffic accident. They make a deal to help each other out by traveling together to their destinations. They then find themselves facing the law when they become suspects in a murder due to a zombie attack. From there things begin to take off. I really have to admit that true horror films like this spoil me. It's the reason why I'm so picky about my horror. And it's easy for me to brush off these mindless "fun" gorefest that just makes the brain soggy by the second. Night of the Living Dead and Let Sleeping Corpses Lie should be the blueprint for anyone trying to put together an outstanding zombie film. The film is very slow getting started. It utilizes its atmosphere setting the tone for the grim encounters with the undead. The creepiness brings out the absolute best in the horror scenes. The build up to most of the zombie encounters are very well done. The film also does a very good job with its believeable subplots. This adds to the overall story being told and they do come together by the end. I also loved the detailed gore scenes. When I look for a zombie film, I want to see some zombie terror and Corpses certainly delivers on that end. The scenes aren't overdone which is a plus as well. This is a zombie film that is very high on my favorite list, number two to be exact. And one of my favorite horror films ever. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy well thought out horror. Don't come into this expecting anything fast paced. You will leave disappointed. | ||

![]() | "Typical mindless killfest with no soul whatsoever" | 2008-09-01 |
| A group of girls are staying in their sorority house for X-mas. Later, they start disappearing one at a time. After realizing something is wrong, they then come to believe they are being stalked by the killer who once lived in the house. These days I give mostly all remakes a chance. I don't come into them with intentions to compare it to the original and torch it. I was willing to give this a fair chance. Even if this remake didn't carry the name of the original. It's still a very bad horror movie to me and one of the worst as well. Black X-Mas does a horrendous job using the atmosphere and mood to instill fear on the most basic level. Cheap scares are present of course and come off more annoying than anything else. There is very little reason to care for any of the characters. And what's a horror movie these days without background via flashbacks on the killer? The gore is the biggest attraction but it comes off so cheesy at times. And I'm not sure but it seems ever since Hostel. Writers are just obsessed with the eyeball. I just don't get it. I can give very detailed reasons to express my dislike for this movie. But that will require very big spoilers. Something I'm not big on at all. I recommend this to those who love bad horror movies, gore, and just find fun in practically everything. Anyone who despises remakes right off the back, shouldn't even waste their time or money. | ||
| Cutey Honey, Vol. 1 | ||
![]() | "Mindless fun and that's about it" | 2008-08-24 |
| In a city plagued by crime. Honey Kisaragi works as a secretary for the mayor who is fighting against the criminals. A man by the name of Dolmek seeks to control the city. During a scuffle with Dolmek's men, Honey awakens her dormant power as Cutey Honey to fight off Dolmeks minions. She then vows to protect the city and fight evil. I will admit right this instant that I'm not a fan of Go Nagai. And I will never consider him to be a genuis or an anime icon. But I did enjoy Cutey Honey and I feel this is the best of his titles. Despite the name "Cutey" Honey. This title isn't completely cute. There is lots of violence and foul language. Fan service is by the barrel loads. The main character Cutey is very interesting. She has the ability to morph her appearance and take on the attributes of the form she becomes. For example, a robot fighter for close combat, a military soldier for arms battle, or even a nurse to fight with syringes. The possibilities are endless. The supporting characters are ok and the villians are interesting and pretty dark. The first half is by far the best. The first volume has the best action, stories, development, and ending. There really isn't a bad thing I can say about the first half. The second on the other hand loses all momentum by the middle. It becomes formulaic and most of the new villians are forgettable. It completely overplays its comedy and fan service. Plus the action scenes aren't as imaginative anymore. The artwork is ok at best and the animation doesn't seem dated to me. The pop music soundtrack is very good and fits with the personality of the show. Throughout the episodes, the soundtrack continues to get better. Cutey Honey is not a series that will appeal to everyone. If you love superheroine style anime. With lots of fan service but mindless fun. Then Cutey Honey will definitly be for you. There is nothing deep about this. If you enjoy this, then I also recommend Fight! Iczer One and Iczer Reborn. Those are OVAs with a female lead as well but darker than this. The DVD is also loaded with many extras that can keep you entertained. | ||
| Basket Case | ||
![]() | "Pretty much a guilty pleasure for me" | 2008-08-21 |
| The movie opens up with a man being stalked in his own home. After dieing a somewhat gruesome death. We are introduced to Duane Bradley(Kevin VanHentenryck)who is carrying a basket and renting a hotel room. The basket has a wild surprise inside. The Basket Case is a pretty good horror comedy with a revenge theme. If you take it a little bit serious, the revenge theme actually works out. I enjoyed the movie most when it revealed some background to the main characters. It gave the movie some life and made the plot a lot more reasonable. I will admit that I didn't care too much for the death scenes. Honestly, I think they sucked. No real imagination whatsoever but I loved the comedy. I found myself laughing way too many times to even come close to disliking this movie. Despite the fact it's not scary in the slightest and the suspense factor is very low. Too many laugh out loud moments for me plus the ending was good too. Even though I did enjoy this. I haven't watched the sequels and I never will. This movie did it for me but it didn't truely capture me. I don't care to ever see what happens next. I think this movie will mostly appeal to those who live and die by horror comedy. Don't even bother with this if your horror must be serious all the time. | ||

![]() | "Alot deeper than the average slasher." | 2008-08-21 |
| Joe Spinell plays Frank Zito. A very disturbed man with murder on his mind. He spends his day dealing with his demons. Then later takes strolls that end with the very brutal demise of single women and couples. Maniac to me sets itself apart from the average slasher. There's alot more to this film than the killer who murders for the sake of it. I feel Maniac makes a successful attempt to uncover the motives of a serial killer. Spinell's performance isn't groundbreaking by any stretch. But what little he does accomplish paints a very disturbing and terrifying picture. Like it or not, there are people who fit this description among us. And this for me is Maniac's biggest strength, making it a very effective horror movie. Maniac is weak on plot. But this is one of those rare cases where it doesn't hurt the film to me at all. We're dealing with a deranged individual. His random acts of violence fits perfectly with the very name of the film. The atmosphere at times creates a very chilling mood. The stalking scene especially, concerning the location. Stands out the most for me. Most of the death scenes are pretty brutal and the gore is well done. One scene in particular instantly became one of my top favorite death scenes in a horror film ever. I feel all fans of horror should give this movie a shot. Is it brutal and disturbing? Of course it is, it wouldn't be a real horror movie if it wasn't. Now, I'm not saying this is exactly what makes a horror movie good. But given the nature of the movie. It could've never worked out if it hadn't went too far a little bit. If you have a weak stomach for violence against women. Then I recommend skipping this or reading the low rated reviews before bothering with this. | ||

![]() | "A visual work of art plus incredible music score." | 2008-08-18 |
| A woman stumbles on a diary written by an alchemist telling a tale about The Three Mothers. They happen to be three evil witches with incredible power. She unknowingly unleashes their evil. First of all, I will go through this review without making any comparisons to Suspiria. Simply because that can effect my overall judgment of this film. Dario Argento is without a doubt an excellent director with a vision. There are very few films that I can think of with an atmosphere so imaginative yet so eerie that it has burned an image in my mind forever. The lighting and the set ups are done so well I can feel the evil. This is also supported by a very well orchestrated music score. That continues to get better as it goes along. Together they form a masterpiece of style. Although a very good film concerning style Inferno does lack substance. Character development and plot are very shaky. I will admit that I didn't care about any of the characters. As a result the death scenes(even though brutal at times) lacked all emotional effect. I just found myself thinking,"wow, sucks to go out like that". Now excluding what is already given to you in the base narrative. Inferno is very lacking on plot. There seems to be a number of things happening just for the sake of it. There are murders happening in which they appear to be without a motive. I kind of feel this is done intentionally to leave it up to the viewer(I do have my thoughts though). But this is not exactly my kind of storytelling. I need a reason to care if the characters die. I need more plot development. And Inferno didn't provide this in a way that completely satisfied me. I really wish that a 3.5 rating was available. I don't quite feel a 4 and definitly not a solid 3 because I liked the film. I enjoyed the outstanding atmosphere, excellent music score, and gore. Like all Argento films Inferno is not for everyone. It's pretty slow paced and aimed towards a more patient audience. If you're into that fast paced stuff with lots of cheap scares. This may not be for you. | ||

![]() | "A low budget zombie flick that doesn't fail.." | 2008-08-04 |
| There's a reason why I kept this around for so long. Even though it's a poorly acted and unintentional hilarious zombie flick at times. It's still a zombie flick with some bite. A group of teens take a trip into the woods for a hangout session. Their fun eventually turns into hell when a zombie is set loose from his grave. He then begins to attack anyone within arms reach and of course this begins the zombie plague. The movie does start out pretty well and presents a creepy atmosphere at first. But several events take away the fright in this movie. And to me it just felt like another zombie movie. In which it is. I will admit the gore is pretty well done. And things pick up fast and are well paced. There is more than enough zombie mayhem to go around. I also liked alot of the make up. Also brace yourself for some long mindless make out scenes. There really isn't too much to say about this movie. If you're a diehard zombie fan looking for a gory munchfest. This movie will certainly deliver but don't look for anything special. | ||
| WWE No Way Out 2004 | ||
![]() | "A very good event from 04." | 2008-08-04 |
| This ppv will mostly be remembered for the incredible main event that probably surpassed expectations. Without a doubt match of the night, it wasn't the only good match on the card. Two more definitly lived up to the hype. WWE Tag Team Championship 3 on 2 handicapp Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty vs. The Bashams & Shaniqua A nice opener that did its job getting the crowd into the event. Shaniqua was actually used well here and her presence wasn't a waste at all. A couple of funny spots with a pretty good ending. 3/5 Jamie Noble vs. Nidia I'm not crazy about intergender matches at all. But this one was interesting and had enough funny moments to watch atleast once. Noble was forced to wrestle Nidia blind folded. I normally don't care for wrestlecrap much less on ppv. But atleast the match did its job breaking these two up. 2/5 World's Greatest Tag Team; Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin vs. APA Haas & Benjamin were a very interesting team. And I think this match does a fairly good job showing how much of a talent they were. This match was definitly better than what it should have been. Lots of hard hits and slams. Bradshaw sold his injury pretty well and this worked out. Very good tag match. 4/5 Around here, there's a pretty good segment that takes place between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. It does a good job adding some suspense to the ppv. Hardcore Holly vs. Rhyno Not as bad as people say. But nothing memorable to it or any reason for fans to care. 2/5 Cruiserweight Championship Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero These two rarely disappoint and this match is one of the good reasons to see this event. This match had alot. Interference, high flying, mat base wrestling, lots of near falls. My only small complaint would be the ending. 4.25/5 Triple Threat Match for #1 contender to WWE Championship at Mania Kurt Angle vs. John Cena vs. The Big Show All three men worked a very good match. TBS dominated for awhile and actually looked unstoppable. Cena & Angle got some one on one time as well. I really can't think of any reason not to like this match. The ending also worked out very well. 4.5/5 WWE Championship Match Brock Lesnar vs. Eddie Guerrero An excellent title match and worthy of being called Match of the Night. The build up and storyline coming into this match added to the drama. These two delivered some solid matbase and high impact wrestling. To include the ending continued a storyline that ended at Mania. Too bad the match at mania didn't deliver at all. 5/5 On a side note, I really do miss seeing Brock in the ring. Matches like this proves to me that he was the best young wrestler. WWE build from the ground up in a very long time. I still haven't seen a young face more deserving to carry that belt and headline ppvs. The extras are worth mentioning because of the bonus match. For some reason this match was on Sunday Night Heat. 6 man tag team match Akio, Tajiri, & Sakoda vs. Billy Kidman, Ultimo Dragon, & Paul London Why this match wasn't added to the ppv is beyond me. It blows away most of the card and it didn't get alot of time. A very quick paced match with the cruiserweights doing what they do best. Look out for that sick three way drop kick. 4.25/5 To me, this ppv is worth a little more than a rental. If you have some spare cash around I recommend checking this out. | ||

| This film definitly delivers on its claim to be gory. Now goriest of all time? I wouldn't know that but it's the goriest I seen and has its funny moments too. Dead Alive to me, seems like a spoof of the zombie genre. Even though incredibly stupid at times. I was still entertained for the most part. I didn't find the story to be good at all. But it was definitly pulled off in a hilarious way. There is a creature called a rat monkey that was taken out of its environment and displayed at the zoo. After a funny incident involving the main characters mother. She's bitten by the creature and comes down with a disease. This disease kills and turns her into a zombie. The film definitly has alot of funny moments but I don't want to add these spoilers. The complete unpredictability of this film is one of its strengths. I would go so far to say the gore is second in order of rank here. I take my horror very serious at times. And it's hard for me to get into films like this. But the turning of some of these over the top events won me over. I also get to see exactly what I wanted to see. And that's zombie mayhem. People are getting ripped apart and I love that. So I guess the flick did its job. There's lots of gore here for gores sake. This is one sick flick. Fans of zombies or zombie spoofs should definitly give this a shot. Horror fans that must witness, 100% pure horror at all times should skip this. This film is not scary in the slightest and it never tries to be. | ||

| Jackie Chan returns in top form with his drunken art. Without a doubt the highlight of this film is seeing Jackie in action. But I found the film stale in some areas. Most notably with the characters. Outside of Jackie, I really didn't care for any of them. The action scenes are very good and they're plenty. But this time around the characters were very uninteresting to me. The lead villian in this one could never match Thunderfoot from the original. If only more screen time was given to the lead villian. I would appreciate this movie more. In anycase, this is a good film to check out if you're a fan of Jackie. But personally I watch this one the least and I haven't seen it for years until today. I would give it a 3.5. | ||

![]() | "Possibly the worst zombie movie I ever seen." | 2008-07-28 |
| Honestly, I don't know what I consider to be the worst zombie movie I seen. But if I was asked next week what I consider to be the worst. It will definitly be this one. I hate this movie. And I hate it for one reason. The zombies... and thats all there is to it. I have a lot to get off my chest with this abomination. Now the zombies. I do not live and die by the traditional zombie. I don't mind a bit of change. But somethings should never be lifted. And a zombies crave for flesh should always remain intact. This drinking blood deal is out of line. But the part I find overly stupid is the zombies using weapons to get the blood. Such as guns and knives. I mean, these are some resourceful and highly skilled zombies. And talk about highly skilled... damn, one scene has a group of zombies draw out a soldier. And they jump him by strangling him with rope. What happened to the animalistic behavior consisting of football tackles, biting, clawing, ripping, and tearing? And yes, it gets sillier. Another zombie threw the meanest right hook knockin a dude out cold. Atleast one scene was cool though. Some chick fell from the helicopter over the amusement park. And hit all the bars from the rollercoaster on her way down. I will admit, that part had me on the floor. The gore wasn't all that great. If you seen one stabbing or gunshot to the head. You seen them all. But one scene does stand out above them all concerning an eyeball. That was sick. This movie just wasn't for me. It was not fun and I was getting angrier by the minute. This is for those who find enjoyment in many things and are far more openminded than me. If you're a diehard zombie fan like I am. And must see everything zombie related. Then you'll most likely watch this anyway. | ||

| I won't sit here, lie and say that Drunken Master is one of my favorite fu flicks or the best ever just to please the masses. I see several that I find alot better. But it is a very entertaining watch and I encourage anyone who considers themselves fans of Jackie to check this out. Drunken Master combines a nice blend of action and comedy. The film is blessed with some pretty good, well choreographed fights. And the writing is alot better than people give it credit for. This isn't just a mindless action fest. The fights happen for a reason and everything lead to something. Jackie gave a very good performace but what brings me back to this film is his opponent Thunderfoot. This guy works his legs like a magician. The very few fights he's in are spectacular. The thing I like about this film the most is the final battle. Even though Jackie learned a very dangerous style. The final battle wasn't one sided at all. This could have easily ruined the whole film for me. The biggest problem that I have with this film is that Jackie never matures. He stays the same hothead that doesn't take much seriously. A little character development never hurt anything. Still this is a pretty good fu flick that I'm glad to keep around. | ||

![]() | "Far better than what I expected" | 2008-07-27 |
| After seeing From Beyond for the very first time recently. I was encouraged by a few amazon friends to give this a watch. Some even claimed it was better. Well I agree with every word and I'm glad to add this into my horror collection. Re Animator is packed with over the top gore and dark comedy. Jeffrey Combs stars as Herbert West. A mad scientist hell bent on bringing back the dead with a formula he created. His formula causes the subjects to go off in a berserker rage. His subjects also include animals, this wild attempt gave birth to one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen in horror. This film is over the top fun even though I felt my intelligence was insulted at times. The acting was pretty solid and I enjoyed every single minute. The only gripe that I have which is minor, is the film isn't scary at all. I found it to barely be creepy. However, this is definitly a film I'm glad to have and horror buffs should definitly check this out. If you're very serious about your horror and can't tolerate dark comedy at all. I recommend a rental at most. | ||

| I will admit that my expectations were high coming into this one. I enjoyed the first two alot and I was looking forward to see how the outbreak in a prison would turn out. I have to say that I'm disappointed. Herbert West(Jeffrey Combs) returns to once again wreak havoc with his reanimation formula. This time he has a new assistant and they lose control in a prison. Everything the first two did right, this one missed the mark to a certain degree. With the exception of Combs performance, the acting was pretty bad. I also lost interest in the plot and only looked forward to the gore. Which it does deliver on at times. Overall I didn't find this to be a horrible movie. It had its moments but I doubt this will ever get frequent watches from me. The first two are classics that I know I can see at anytime. This one will most likely get lost in my collection somewhere. I feel fans of the first two should give this a try anyway. | ||

![]() | "Very good sequel" | 2008-07-27 |
| Bride of Re Animator took everything from the original that worked and added to it. Even though it began with a familiar feel. The added twist kept it fresh and hilarious. Jeffrey Combs returns as Herbert West and his agenda is still the same kind of. Now he's trying to create new life by merging together body parts. This sequel has a few subplots taking place that comes together by the end. The acting is very good and I found this one to be creepier than the original. I enjoyed this sequel much more than the original. So many things were done better and I laughed a whole lot more. If you enjoyed the first give this a look. | ||
