![]() | Microsoft Office 2008 Standard for Mac
![]() | "Finally, an Update! WooHoo!" | 2009-09-24 |
| I have been waiting for the new update of the Mac version of Office. I have tried other alternatives, and they just don't work the way I would expect them to. Having used Microsoft Office for the PC in the past for all of my office needs, I could not find anything that worked quite the same on my Mac. Printing would be off, or text would not look right, and just a lot of small things that made me feel that I needed to keep looking for the right program to edit spreadsheets and documents on my Mac.
Behold: Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac! This is the newest version of Office for the mac! The settings and options I am used to having are all there! Commands have the same name I am familiar with! Documents and text look the way I would expect them to when I create/edit them and even when I print them! I felt at home! The menu system does take a bit of getting used to. Instead of being a traditional Menu Bar like Office 2003 (what I am familiar with) it has a style more like Office 2007 - but with the menus detached from the main document window. This takes a little getting used to, but actually is much better with my wide screen monitor. I still prefer the old Office 2003 style menus, but I would say these are a bit more useful then the ones present in Office 2007. Also, the update system can be annoying if you set it to always check for updates. I get a pop-up window every time, but would have preferred if it checked in the background and then just let me know when new updates were available. Installation took a bit. Not too terribly slow, but it was a bit time consuming. All of this was well worth it though, as any Office program I run starts up very fast! I was impressed with the loading speeds. I expected fairly fast loading due to the major efforts put into the new Microsoft products to decrease loading times, but I still expected it to take a bit longer. Word or Excel load about as fast as Firefox or any other lean program! MUCH faster than an alternative I had been using previously. After using alternatives, and having become accustomed to the PC version - I found Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac to be a wonderful and necessary software suite for all of my document needs. I would definitely recommend this program if you want a solid and fully featured Office program for your Mac!

| I myself feel that this is the best version of Windows for the home. (Excluding all of the business/server oriented versions) This is about as rock solid as it gets, and it is the standard amongst computers today. I had to run out and grab a copy before Microsoft stops selling it. They keep saying they are going to make it go away. I really love the compatibility with drivers, and everything out there. I will be running it on some of my machines for a long time. | ||

![]() | "Totally Awesome!" | 2008-08-31 |
| I know what most people are thinking, "This is too small, and is not very powerful." ... Well, frankly, for most things one does on a computer, it is powerful enough, and it is small enough to go anywhere you can take a book, and is really jsut totally convenient! I ended up installing Windows XP using nLite to trim it down. It started as a test to show everyone at work and my friends how well it can run WinXP, but it turned out to be very useful, and I ended up just leaving it on there, and have been using Windows XP on it since! This little guy can play video full screen with no issues, has great sound (it goes pretty loud!) and has all the cool features you would need! Ca not upgrade the RAM on this particular model, but that isn;t a problem. The keyboard is a bit small, but the only real issue I have is I keep hitting the right-arrow instead of the shift key because of the positioning. Otherwise, it is really remarkably easy to use for the small size! Oh, and the wireless in this thing is AWESOME! It gets the best and strongest signal I have seen with any 802.11 b/g wireless device! It connects flawlessly where my other laptops can barely get enough signal to find the networks! I use it extensively for everyday things. I would really recommend it for mobile and normal use, however, bring your adapter, It only gets about 2 hours of life on the battery, which is about the only real downside. | ||

| This is the traditional waffle maker I am accustomed to! We sued to have one of these when I was a kid, and I loved waffles! Not sure what happenned to it, but I have one again, and am loving it! I have not used the grill/griddle side of the plates, but that is a great feature to have! The unit will actually fully open up, so both grills are available, but you do have a gap between them. Swapping the plates out is easy too! There is a metal clip you press to release the plate, and it can pop right out. Just make sure it is cool! I worried that the clip would allow the plates to pop out unintentionally, but they hold in tight! This waffle maker makes the traditional style waffles, kind of akin to those you can buy frozen at the store. They are great! Nothing like fresh waffles! I am really happy with my Black & Decker Waffle Maker, and if you want to make waffles, you should give it a try! | ||

| I was looking for a cheap, but not too cheap pair of earphones, and stumbled across this gem! These are AWESOME earphones for a small price! I was amazed at the great sound, and they have a super handy volume control on the chord too! Comes in great handy when someone starts talking to me, as my MP3 player tends to be tucked away and locked. I would definitely recommend these earphones to anyone looking for some good quality sound without emptying the bank! These are great! | ||

![]() | Ebtech Hum X Voltage Hum Filter
![]() | "Works great on the computer!" | 2008-08-31 |
| My brother built a computer, and was getting a horrible hum and noise on his computer speakers, or anything that produced audio and was somehow connected to his machine! Even the TV would get the hum when the computer was feeding it video. I figured I would give this filter a try, and boy howdy did it work great! My brother can not actually hear the sounds on his machine, and not have a loud hum in the background! Also, he can output video to the TV without that awful noise! We also afterwards plugged this filter into the wall, and plugged a surge protector into it, and connected the computer to it. Not usre if it has power limitations, but it seems to work with over 200 watts draw on it for me. I definitely found it to be a worthy purchase! Glad I was able to find it! | ||

![]() | "Great Waffle Maker! Deep Grooves!" | 2008-08-31 |
| I slapped together a generic Waffle recipe found in an older cookbook to give this waffle-maker a try. I enjoyed it! At first, it was a little odd, because the grooves are very deep. I am used to the flatter waffles, so I was not filling the grooves in enough. Otherwise, the waffles came out great! Nice and crispy, and evenly cooked.br /br /The only thing I think could be improved, would be a bigged ridge or edge around the waffle mold, for over-spill. You have to fill the unit up almost until spilling to get enough batter in there to fill the top half of the mold. Or, maybe my mix was not quite right, and did not rise enough.br /br /I really enjoyed waffles from this Krups Waffle Maker. If you like to put fruits, and lots of toppings on your waffles, I would recommend this one for you, because it has deep pockets to hold lots of flavor and toppings! | ||
| 6-Ft. Null Modem Cable | ||
![]() | "Awesome Deal!" | 2008-08-31 |
| This is a great price for a 6-foot Null Modem Serial cable! I really needed this when serialing into another machine, and it really comes in handy! Many high end rackable switches also need these to console in and administer them directly! If you are in need of one, this is the one to get! | ||
| ARISTA 18-002 Y Adapter - 2 RCA Male to 1 RCA Female | ||
![]() | "Awesome Splitter!" | 2008-02-16 |
| This is a simple RCA splitter. I got these to split off the RCA ports from my video switcher to the TV, so add a set of outputs to the computer, for recording video game output. These things work great, however, we found out that the computer sends horrible noise interference to anything touching it. The cables had nothing to do with it. The cables are a little thin, but given the length, it does not cause issues, unless you have it next to your jacob's ladder or testla coil. I have to say, these things are great! Very useful when you need them! | ||
| PE1 INFRARED THERMOMETER TEMP GUN | ||
![]() | "Very Useful!" | 2008-02-16 |
| This tool is very useful. Although it won't check the proper temperature at a good distance, it is great for taking the temperature of liquids, or other items close by, that a normal thermometer would not be practical to use, or not fast enough. I find it quite useful, and a nice little gadget to have around! | ||
