I love this phone! I own a mac, and it's so hard to find a Skype phone... a real one.
This is Skype certified, so I knew it'd work. What I didn't expect was the clarity of the voice. When 2 people use Skype, and you listen in with this baby, it's much clearer than a regular phone! Awesome.

Rated 2 Stars"Just too many problems for that price" 2008-05-30
I know the rating looks harsh, but I've just spent $240. At that range, the product had better be darn good. This one just isn't.

For one, it's heavy and bulky... and on my laptop, it's actually making the screen go down if it's already tilted backwards... that's a bad start. Then, the angle of view is kinda weird. It's good sideways, but up and down, it seems like it's more tilted up?

The back stand... these things on the logitech webcams have been driving me crazy. At first, you think they'll be helpful and balance the camera out, but in the end, the slightest thing too close to your laptop screen, and they're falling. They're also god hard to store, which means they easily break, and then, you're out $240, because the webcam can't hook on to anything, or balance.

CPU issues... wow this thing sucks the life of my computer!! Everything slows down incredibly when I start chatting. Yeah, I want to chat, but I don't want to stop living and breathing for it!

The mic - ok so the other person can see every pimple on your forehead (angle tilted up), but they can't hear you if you step 1 foot diagonally. So your kids can wave to granny, but they won't be able to say a word she can hear until all she can see is their lips... that's just weird.

Conclusion: not the bang for the buck.

Rated 5 Stars"Addictive - Co-op careers are awesome too!" 2008-05-30
I'm a newbie to the game, and I find it totally addictive. I also discovered a lot of great songs thanks to it.

As a general comment, the leap between the levels is pretty vast. I was doing pretty good in medium, but when I got to hard, it felt like I had to jump a mountain! There is not true gradation of level between these sections (easy, medium, hard and expert), which is the weak point of the game. The tutorials are pretty cool though, and you can make steady progress if you go in that mode.

In co-op, it's really fun. You can play at different levels, and both players get to participate, which makes the game even more fun. You get to choose a bass and lead player everytime, which also means you can replay your favorite songs and see different musical angles. It's made me listen to rock songs in a very different way, trying to distinguish the bass, the guitars, etc. Cool!

Note: the Helicopter song in the co-op career will kick your behind in the Bass section... even in medium.

Of all issues you could make light or entertainment of, death is no easy task.
This book, in my opinion, succeeded.

It's an easy, fast read that goes through the classic revisiting your life after death story. It's just very well told. It's emotional without being overwhelming or overbearing, it's light and fun, and has a simple lesson, that is to love the little things people do for each other in life. Not depressing. Not heartbreaking. A light lecture on a sunday afternoon.

Did I get on the front page after reading this? Definitely NOT.

Did it give me insight on what an editor may be thinking when I write? Absolutely.

The examples are very to the point on what format to do and not to do. Very down to earth, a lot of examples, pretty well written. It covers a range of examples, from announcements for retirement parties to press releases for products.

Rated 2 Stars"Poor image quality, poor design" 2008-05-28
I know, this is a cheaper camera. We're all trying to save these days. Still... this one is really bad.

The design: cheapy. Sorry, I couldn't come up with another word for it.

When my daughter went up to adjust it on the laptop, the base broke like it was made of sugar.
The video quality is really poor - both pixelized and choppy. So you basically can't use it other than as a talking head, and even then, IF you're not moving your head, your mouth, or breathing, then you *may* get a recognizable image...

For this price range, it's not the worse, but frankly, it's not doing very much for you. For $39.99, you can get an IPEVO POV webcam, that'll have much higher resolution, better frames per seconds (30fps, standard on all chat services), solid design so you aren't afraid it'll fall apart within 1 week, and you can hand it off to your kids to show grandma the dog without fearing for your $30...

Overall, very disappointing, even for that price.

Ok, so you're a business owner. If you're in marketing, skip this. This is too simplified, to general, not a place where you could find new ideas, or that many useful tips.

Ok, small business owner. You want to know more about marketing. This may (or not) be the book for you. It claims at the introduction to be a very practical guide, with how-tos and ideas. To some extent, you'll have some ideas, and some preconceptions chewed up for you (like what NOT to give at a tradeshows, or tips on how to evaluate whether or not a tradeshow is justifiable ROI for your business).

Would I read it at the library? It'd be more like a perusal. I would not read it word for word. I would suggest other alternatives, like a book called 101 marketing tricks (or something of the kind), because what you're looking for is "how tos", exact ideas you can implement, which this book is NOT.

Rated 3 Stars"There are better products out there for the price" 2008-05-27
You have to hand it to Philips - they know how to get good photographers.

When I received the phone, all I saw was a cheap piece of plastic I got overcharged for. Ditto from other reviewers: they went *really* cheap on the USB cable. I thought mine would snap on first try.

Major minus: the installation process. Ok so I'm on Skype, and I want to make a call. Who said I had 1 hour to install a phone before doing so??? After running into customer service issues (and their service is really bad...), I ended up returning it. And I got an IPEVO FRee1 phone. Much, much better voice quality, easier installation, mac compatible.

So yeah, if you're patient think you can waste a lot of time for a piece of plastic, you can go with it. But there are better products out there.

Other tip: do NOT get a wireless with Skype. Skype is really bad with wireless, and all phones will drop calls like no other (at least once every phone call!). So make sure that if you get a Skype phone, that it's wired.

Rated 3 Stars"Road warriors beware" 2008-05-27
You have to hand it to Logitech, the image quality is really, really good on this webcam... but here's my advice for road warriors: don't buy it.

My company bought 27 of these babies Feb 1 for us road warriors. For presentations and video conferencing on the go, as they say.

Verdict: after 20 days, 17 of them were broken. Why? The stupid balancing thing in the back either snapped off or broke in half in briefcases. And once that's gone, your logitech is worthless.
Other minus: the video looks great, but when you use Hotel connections with it, it's very, very choppy. So don't charge $90 to your company for something they'll have to replace quickly and you can't put in a briefcase.

Our company has changed to IPEVO POV webcams - the image quality is enough, works well in hotels, enough lighting conditions for indoor videoconferencing, and, best of all: never breaks.

Linksys CIT200 Cordless Internet Telephony Kit for SkypeLinksys CIT200 Cordless Internet Telephony Kit for Skype
Rated 1 Stars"Dropped calls. More dropped calls. Return." 2008-05-27
Linksys tried, you have to hand it to them. They even made the phone look like a regular phone.

Skype, however, does NOT support wireless phones. Every single wireless phone I've tried for Skype has dropped the calls. EVERY single one of them! Every call, you're mid-sentence, and can't go further. The wireless function is simply not supported by Skype, and Linksys won't be able to support you for that very reason.

Verdict: get a USB phone for Skype, like the FRee1 from IPEVO. They are the #1 in Certified Skype phones for a good reason... mac compatible, great echo cancelation, you can travel with it (reliable and sturdy), and they have great customer service (which Skype won't give you, so you have to make sure the manufacturer does)

Motorola RAZR V3xx Lavender Phone (AT&T)Motorola RAZR V3xx Lavender Phone (AT&T)
Rated 4 Stars"Nice, but disappointing battery life" 2008-03-03
I just got this new phone.
What I like:
- It's purple!
- With the right headset, you can do voice recognition calling. Very useful in the car
- It's fun to take pics, even though it's not the best resolution out there
- Fun size
What I don't like
- You can't charge the battery and use the hands-free at the same time. I'm on the road a lot, so I have to choose between the phone calls and charging the phone. Stupid.
- Everything for that damn phone is custom. You have to buy a *special* hands-free, etc. That sucks.
- The battery life is moderate. Just got it, and after the first 24h (and I only made a couple calls), I have the low battery warning. It makes me wonder what it's going to be like a year from now. And as shown above, it sucks if you're trying to charge it in the car (no phone calls for you!).
