![]() | "Great album, BUT the only improvement is a flashy new cover. NOT REMASTERED as stated!" | 2009-02-04 |
| Sanatana's 18th release is chock full of great rock songs. It is THE LAST great "rock" record by them, and stands beside Santana 1,2, and 3, as the ONLY Santana "rock records." I don't know what you call the rest of them, but they are NOT ROCK records. This is one of the few items you gotta watch out for on Amazon, They say it's re-mastered, but i ordered it and swear i cannot hear the difference from the original 81' analog release, and it is not labeled as "re-mastered" anywhere on the cd or within the liner notes or outer covers. The only improvement of this product is that the cover art goes from the original "pink" to a flashy new "fire engine red". Now you decide if it's worth the extra bucks over the $3.00 original. Come to think about it, i kinda prefer the original pink myself. | ||

| Amazon is still listing this item as REMASTERED. If you read the fine print under product description on the 2nd page, it says it is re-mastered. IT IS NOT. No where does it say so on the cd itself nor within the inner liner notes or outer covers. It sounds no better than the original 86' release. The ONLY truly REMASTERED Seger CD's are "Night Moves", "Against the Wind", and "Stranger in Town". | ||

| Great record, but there is no way this is re-mastered! (AS STATED!) Listen to the E. C. 20th Century Millinieum REMASTRS and when you put it's "Cocaine" and "Wonderful Tonight" next to this one and play them back to back, now that "20th Century" is a real re-master. It's like night and day! I cannot believe i am the only one on here that has complained about this, but i'll double check. Anyone hearing what i'm hearing? Amazon you need to delete ANY reference to "REMASTERED" on this one! | ||

![]() | "5 STAR! (If a Frampton fan!)" | 2008-04-11 |
| If a Frampton fan, this is as good as it gets! Stellar sound and visual production at a great out-door venue. Frampton has long been regarded as one of the very most under-rated guitarists of all time. Here he shows exactly why. Sound wise this DVD helps set the standard of DTS 5:1 sound, not quite up to a "Hell Freezes Over", but close. BUY IT! | ||

| Kansas - Device, Voice, Drum | ||
![]() | "Could have been a lot better! If not a fan, pass it up!" | 2008-04-09 |
| This is one you might wanna pass on unless you are a die-hard Kansas fan! The show is almost un-watchable due to being intentionally filmed in a "grainy, fuzzy" picture format, according to the producers who were interviewed in the credits section. Steve Walsh has lost about half of his vocal ability. But the main problem with his voice is one that could have been easily fixed, that being "You can't hear him most of the time!" "TURN IT UP, soundman!" Very badly produced! And what was that all about with all those people sitting right behind the band on their butts the whole show? That really did not help matters in the production value of this show. Some solid song ommissions include "Hold On" and "Chasing Shadows". They did do one song from the "Elefante Brothers" era, that being "Fight Fire With Fire", but they destroyed it by playing it way too fast! Save your money for the next Kansas live concert. I've seen them, and I remember them to be much better than this DVD. | ||

![]() | "Not a bad show! (Just too many horns and blues numbers for me!)" | 2008-03-03 |
| Sound-wise, this is about as good as it gets. BUT, for me, i don't re-call the Doobies with a horn-section. They didn't need it then and they don't need it now. (Way too many blues numbers for me too). It just seems some of the old magic is missing for me. I missed those "smoke bombs" on "Without You." Oh well, guess i'm just getting old. It's hard to go back, I guess.
On a positive note, highlights include "Another Park, Another Sunday", "Spirit", "South City Midnight Lady" "Nobody", and a killer 3 song encore, with their best ever song, "Without You." I also loved Patrick Fitzsimmons on a great instrumental called "Steamer Lane." The band is super tight, and I really enjoyed seeing Keith Knudsen, didn't think i'd see him play again after his motorcycle accident. Enjoyed the interviews with the band members too. I say buy it!
| Concert for George (DVD) | ||
![]() | "Amazing Show! (Could have done without the Monty Python Circus though!)" | 2008-02-27 |
| I know I'm in the minority here, with over 300 5-stars, but this DVD could have been a lot better. I gotta give it just 4 stars. I rate a DVD concert on how many times you have to use your re-mote, and this one forces you to use it quite a bit. Also, absolutely NO NEED for 2 discs, do not understand this concept, nothing new on the 2nd disc!
AWARD for most noticeable ommission: Bob Dylan---THANK YOU AWARD for not showing up, goes to: Bob Dylan First, the good: Amazing production, sound quality is inferior to NONE! With only three weeks of re-hearsal, this "mind-boggling" project that Clapton pulled off, puts him in a category totally alone. Who better than to finalize this brilliant piece of work than EC himself! For the most part, the set list is great, except for nothing from "Cloud Nine." Not a whole lot of "audience shots." (Who wants to see rich snobs rattling their jewelry anyway?) EC is in his very highest form, doing his best friends's songs the finest justice. TP and the Heartbreakers gave a "dazzling" performance, singing a "blistering" "Taxman", a "hauntingly beautiful" "I Need You", and a "mesmerizing" closing "Handle With Care." More good: I thought one of the highlights of the show was Billy Preston doing "Isn't It A Pity" and "My Sweet Lord", (although never a huge fan of either song), not only with his awesome vocals, but with his brilliant organ/piano on both songs! Very few can touch him on "sheer talent." Just ask Ringo and Paul, who hired him as what would become the "5th Beatle." MORE GOOD: Who in the hell was that tall blonde chick back-up singer, she was virtually the ONLY good looking one on the stage! The build up slowly moves towards the introduction of Ringo and Paul. (More about Ringo later). Paul did a superb job opening with "For You Blue", then goin' into a "terrific" "All Things Must Pass.", to close his portion of the show "banging out" an "electrifying" "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the piano, sharing vocals with EC and the rest. A SHOW HIGHLIGHT!: Paul on "Something" on the ukelei, leaves you wondering at first "What the hell is he doing?" Then the band and orchestra blast full speed ahead into the way the song was meant to be heard. That moment will knock you over!! Also, let's face it, where else are ya gonna see Paul and Ringo performing on stage together???? Hell that alone is worth the purchase price of $17.99 on here! The show also has a very nice addition with GH's son "Dhani" playing back up guitar/backing vocals. (More later on Dhani). The massive production closes with the GH rocker "Wah-Wah", with Petty and the whole GH ensemble on stage. MORE GOOD: EC made the show, but he didn't "hog" the show, like he could have, he's just so awesome, THE GREATEST! NOW THE BAD: WHERE"S JULIAN LENNON??? ALSO---KEEP YOUR REMOTE HANDY! If you want "THE GOOD STUFF" fast-forward to track 9, where EC and the boys open up with "I Want To Tell You" and "If I Needed Someone." The first 8 tracks are taken up with GH's friends from India, playing all kinds Eastern "sitar dominated music" which I kinda liked, but got real tired of real quick. (Ya gotta admire their talent level though!) The good news is, it's worth at least watching Ravi Shankar's daughter play ONE of her solos and GH's "The Inner Light." BUT, after that find that remote. UNLESS you love the "Monty Python Circus." I thought they would never get done. I know GH loved them, but that does not mean we have to sit through them. (REMOTE?) Hell, we could have heard EC and Paul do 7-9 more great GH songs in place of the "Monty Circus" and the "New Dehli Symphony Orchestra" (who should have done one song and returned to a "back-up" role.) Hell, there was plenty of time to do the entire "CLOUD NINE" album, (his best effort by far!) Not one song from this masterpiece! MORE BAD: I still don't know who that old dude was who did "Here Comes The Sun." (Think his name was Joe Brown, or something). Those guys looked and sounded like they needed 7 coffins made for them, ready when they left the stage. (Never in my life would I have thought I would have fast forwarded "Here Comes the Sun"). Damn, they could have let EC do it justice. Also, is it me or does Jeff Lynne's voice leave me sick to the stomach. I just can't wait for him to shut up. Very "average" vocals, but not just on here, but anything that he sings. Hell EC is not the best singer, but he gets by! Also, they should have taken the mic away from Jeff Lynne and brought Heartbreaker Scott Thurston out to do Roy Orbison's part on "Handle With Care." MORE BAD: Is it me or was there way too many people on the stage. Hell, there must have been 40 musicians up there! (Not counting the Indians and the other orchestra.) They couldn't even turn around up there, without bumping into each other. MORE BAD: They really should have got GH's son Dhanni to sing "lead" on at least one song. Hell you could not even hear his guitar or his back up vocals. Although, it looked like he was a "deer in the head-lights" up there with all those "legends", so i don't think he was ready to step out front this time, anyway. MORE BAD: That "Jules Holland" or whoever she was did not do much for me. MORE GOOD: I liked the 3 drummers up there, (or maybe it was 6) inc. Ringo. More BAD: Ringo did not get up there soon enough, after doing his "Photograph" (which wasn't too bad, and the Carl Perkins' Honey Don't". (where's that remote???) IDEA that would have energized the whole show!!!:: EC and the boys play BADGE!!!!!!!!!!(after all GH and EC wrote it together, probably the only thing they wrote together). SUMMARY!: BUY THE DVD!!! MORE GOOD THAN BAD!! A great tribute that GH would have loved!! Stealing from a prior reviewer, i think GH would have used his remote and skipped the whole show EXCEPT for the parts i hated, like Monty and Tom Hanks, and the "way-long" eastern music stuff. The whole thing is a little long, you'll have to keep that remote nearby, (like GH), but well worth a look, over and over!! ENJOY!!!
| The BoDeans - Blend | ||
![]() | "The Bodeans! "On the edge of stardom" for 20 years now! Just like 10 others I could name!" | 2008-02-27 |
| Amazingly, well crafted CD! Brilliant musicianship and beautiful harmonies generally will take you far. However, that might have been true during the height of the "rock era", but it is not now, it's not about the talent anymore. (Listen to "The Last DJ" by TP/Heartbreakers.) This wonderful band has been around a while with quite a few releases. They are just another example of how a super-talented group can get a small taste of "possibly" making it big, to just have their dreams shattered and become "just another struggling band." (i.e. just like Storyville, The Why Store, and Freddy Jones Band.) You gotta hand it to them, they are still around, (unlike the 3 bands just mentioned), and in fact will be releasing their brand new CD on 3/4/2008. If you love beautiful harmonies, and tender ballads that make you shed a few tears, you will love the Bodeans. If you are a brand new "fan" start with "Blend." Not heavy on any "rockers" but just straight-forward inspiring songs! The song "The Understanding" is perhaps one of the "top 5" rock power ballads of all time. Now that statement in itself makes this CD worth 18 cents! BUY IT NOW!! | ||

![]() | "Not a bad show! Hot and Cold!" | 2008-02-10 |
| NY delivers a so-so production here. A lot of people on here are griping about the lighting, but i thought it was fine. The lighting was the least of the problems. Red-Rocks is an amazing back-drop for any show. Un-fortunately we don't get to see much of the scenery. NY brings on his family and friends for more of a "good time" than anything else, I think. To me, the sound production is less than stellar in most spots. At times the band seems lifeless and bland. But, on a positive note, NY's rendition on "Cowgirl" is the best I have ever heard him do "live." When Jimmy Keltner's drums break into the opening riffs of "Cowgirl" (with the rain clouds opening up up and drenching everyone on stage), it doesn't get any better than this! I also especially liked "Winterlong", "Buffalo Springfield Again", and "Un-known Legend." I say buy it! | ||

![]() | "Great DVD! Well Done!" | 2008-02-10 |
| Just a very well done production! It gives you a great deal of insight into the greatest rock record of all time, taking you from the "original idea" all the way through the production/recording phases and trials and tribulations that followed. The acoustic guitar songs performed by Pete are worth the price of admission, as well as the soundboard demonstration on how "Baba O'Reily" gave birth. Has some great interviews. I think every WHO fan will leave with something they did not know already. BUY IT!! | ||
| Marshall Crenshaw - I've Suffered For My Art...Now It's Your Turn | ||
![]() | "Very Interesting! Not Bad, but Could Have Been Better" | 2008-02-08 |
| Marshall Crenshaw has to be one of the most under-rated singer/songwriters ever. His "catchy" 50's/60's tunes are every bit as good as anything Buddy Holly did. (and that is quite a statement in itself.) He has several "acoustic" CD's, this being the best of the lot. It's really nice to hear these wonderful songs broken down to their very basics, acoustically.
This effort could have been a lot better. You really need to be a Crenshaw fanatic to enjoy it, most likely. You can tell he's a little nervous, and his guitar playing is "sloppy" in spots, as if he is trying to add too many "licks" where they don't need to be added. His voice cracks in spots, but hell, he still sounds good enough! I liked the CD, i didn't like the choice of all the songs, but what the hell. He has 2 very good back up musicians behind him. He does a really good cover of the 60's classic "Walk Away Renee", and a new great lead-off song named "Television Lights." (As good or better than any of his huge hits.) I say buy it! Not bad at all!

![]() | "Great DVD Gone Bad!! 5 Stars for the Music, 1 Star for the Visual Effects!" | 2008-01-22 |
| Caution! Almost un-watchable without your remote! BUT, great if you can fast-forward. If you want a real "migraine" watch this one all the way through, without your remote. I counted 97 camera shot cutaways during "Baby I'm Amazed", and that's about average per song, back and forth from the audience to the band, back to the band, back to the audience, over and over and over. No music (as great as it is) can save this DVD! I've never seen anything like it in my life. For some odd reason, most of the reviewers on here don't seem to mind it. Yeah, the shots of Red Square are very beautiful, and the show is quite a spectacle....BUT. From what i see on Amazon, ALL of Paul's concerts follow the same format, "The Audience" (with Paul McCartney)
Another problem I have with it is, way too much dialogue on how the Beatles were responsible for the fall of communism. They could have talked about that for 5-10 minutes, and got it over with. All the boring dialog and shots of Paul at various kid's schools around town, riding his bike (illegally) with "golddigger Heather" through Red Square, got old real quick. I don't remember where he played two songs back to back without breaking away to some boring piece of re-hashed theory of the "fall of communism" factor. It's intersting to watch one time, but that's it. (Again, leave that remote in hand.) On a positive note, 2 concerts for the price of one. The song selections are great, being mostly Beatle songs! (unlike most of the rest of his concerts). Awesome songs not on most of his shows, include "Let Me Roll It" and "I Got a Feeling." The sound production is pretty awesome in most spots. Paul's voice is pretty damn good too. Paul's drummer is a "wildman"!. Thought he was gonna have a heart attack up there! Watch for the amazing rendition of part of "Foxey Lady", after "Let Me Roll It!" Second concert from St. Petersburg closes with a "hammering" "Helter Skelter"! The 2nd show from St. Petersburg just doesn't sound as good as the 1st show from Red Square for some reason. (maybe just hearing things, or could be that it's a daylight show?) I don't see how Paul could be happy with the overall production of this one.

| A masterpiece!!! Incredible footage, even more incredible transformation of awful visual/sound into sheer amazing picture and sound quality! Not really a concert, not really a documentary (somewhere in-between). The "live" Woodstock" footage is worth the "price of admission" in itself. The extended solo of "See Me Feel Me" will send shivers down your spine! (Don't remember it being that long in the original movie, but I guess it was.)
Opens with the Smother's Brothers Comedy Hour, where Keith Moon pays a "stage hand" $300 to overload his bass drum with 5 times the explosion force originally planned to blow up the whole stage set. It's incredible! Have not seen that TV moment in a long time! Traces the band's incredible rise to fame, through the death of "Moonie", through Woodstock and the "Who are You" video. Tons of great songs, most played all the way through. Second DVD has a great one on one interview with Roger, and the highlight of the whole shebang, i think is a stripped down solo bass notes (minus rest of the music) by "The OX" himself--Entwhitsle doing Baba O-Reily---amazing!! Amazing!!!
