Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9)Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9)
Rated 5 Stars"Finally; something to sink your teeth into!" 2009-10-13
I can't believe all of the negative reviews for this book. I've read them all, too, folks, and I just have to say that the darkness of the plot in this book was refreshing after the same-old-same-old over the last few. This was a pivotal book in the series; it wrapped up the mystery behind the fairies, got rid of a few nasties and left us puzzled over Sookie's "new" relationship with Eric and unfinished business with Bill. It actually got me excited about the series again after all of the "Tru Blood" hype. I would continue reading no matter what, but I am really looking forward to the next one...Sookie will bounce back, for sure, but I think that Charlaine Harris is planning some new roads for her to travel, which I am all for!

Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye: A Psychic Eye MysteryAbby Cooper: Psychic Eye: A Psychic Eye Mystery
Rated 3 Stars"I'm adding this series to my reading list" 2009-07-08
Abby Cooper is a gifted psychic who listens to a team of voices that instructs her regarding a given situation or question. She does this for a living and she is very good at it. She gets in trouble, however, when a client is murdered and she becomes a suspect; it's hard for the police to overlook someone with a lot of "inside" information!

This book is delightful. Yes, it's a little (okay a lot) on the fluff side and you must suspend disbelief to read it, which I read in another review as a criticism. The woman is a PSYCHIC, people, HELLO? THERE IS NO HANDBOOK OF RULES. She's funny and loveable and if you want believable and plausible, choose another genre. Abby is a bit emotionally inconsistent as a character, (hence 3 stars instead of 4) but I'm betting the author works this out in later books.

I'm putting the 2nd in this series on my list right now and am looking forward to it!

Rated 3 Stars"Dead Boring" 2008-12-05
After reading the first 2 novels in this series I guess I was expecting more. First of all, this is not a stand-alone book by any means. I didn't expect it to be, but if someone were to pick this up as a first introduction, I doubt they would waste their time on the far better- crafted others to date. I agree with some of the reviews mentioning the character development with Chap and insight into Magiere's past, but in general I felt like questions weren't really answered; they were just addressed and left hanging without any meaningful resolution. I don't typically skim through passages, but I found myself doing that frequently. I felt there were only a couple of really good action scenes.

Having said that, I am looking forward to the next installment and have already purchased it, in fact. I just hope there is more to sink my fangs into than there was in this one. Sorry, fans!

Rated 4 Stars"Entertaining urban fantasy" 2007-05-27
I've had this book on my reading list for quite some time. I just finished it and was so glad I read it. Christine Starlight is a young woman living in Germany with her artist boyfriend. Her life has been full of tragedy, having lost her parents as a child in a horrible accident; the same accident has left Christine in chronic pain. Her parents were famous and left her enormously wealthy, but Christine refuses to touch the money until she is married.

As a child, Christine was best friends with May, the girl next door. They pricked their fingers and became blood-sisters. Shortly thereafter, May is taken from her house in the night, never to be seen again. That is, until one day when Christine takes a fall and wakes up in a beautiful otherworld only to find that her childhood friend is Queen Mayfridh, who rules a faery kingdom. The kingdom is only accessible to Christine because the two worlds are aligned for a short time.

When Christine is pulled back to her world, Mayfridh decides to journey to the Real World to find here again. She then becomes entangled in a plot of romance, betrayal and magic, beautifully woven together. Kim Wilkins keeps a close eye on the rules of the magic, and it never gets out of hand, even for a fantasy novel.

My only criticism is the ending. I predicted it about halfway through the story. Still, it is very much worth reading, and for fantasy lovers, it won't disappoint.
