Rated 4 Stars"Uniden phone system" 2005-09-06
Phone works well. Terrific clarity in sound. Have now installed five phones through the house and the system works very nicely. Would have liked to see some features, such as phone directories, capable of being entered once for the entire system, instead of headset by headset. Still, the phones work well as phones and the quality and clarity is as good as any other phone we've had in the home.

Karan Casey - Distant ShoreKaran Casey - Distant Shore
Rated 5 Stars"Exquisite and haunting" 2004-09-17
Some years ago, upon the recommendation of another, I picked up the Karan Casey album, Songlines. I enjoyed the album immensely, thought her voice beautiful, lyrical. I've long been a fan of British and Irish folk music and Casey's voice is particularly distinctive. Not to sound trite, her music has an innocent, angelic quality.

On a recent trip to a store specializing in Irish music, I looked up "Karan Casey" in their extensive stacks and came upon this CD. I've now been listening to the album for a couple of weeks and I think it even better, more mature, more emotionally evocative than her earlier work.

Among the most haunting tracks is "Song of Lies," which I play again and again, savoring the poetry of its lyrics, the simplicity and beauty of her interpretation.

If you were to buy one and only one CD this year, you'd not go wrong making this one your choice!

Fortuna - MazalFortuna - Mazal
Rated 5 Stars"Fortuna's MAZAL" 2001-08-13
Hauntingly beautiful, hypnotic. The music transports you.

As with many others, I stumbled on Fortuna following the inclusion of a selection of her music on a Putamuyo CD (Jewish Odyssey). Her rendition there of "Shalom Aleichem" was mesmerizing, the melody harkening back to primal roots, and it bid me to search out her work.

Given the title of this work, MAZAL, which translates as 'luck', and its inclusion of "Shalom Aleichem," I took a chance first on this album. And with absolutely no regrets, I'd recommend you do the same.
