| Well...I started off by grabbing the complete set of STEREO REMASTERS the day they went on sale in Sept.....Unfortunately, I was unimpressed with several of the stereo mixes....PLEASE PLEASE ME...WITH THE BEATLES...RUBBER SOUL...REVOLVER....Immediately turned me off...and after a second listen....I found myself unpleased with SGT PEPPER and MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR...
So I ran out and grabbed this selection.....The MONO REMASTERS....and am extremely enthusiastic about my purchase. I actually prefer the MONO versions of everything up to the WHITE ALBUM...I have mixed emotions about the stereo versus the mono WHITE ALBUM....I think I lean more to the stereo tho....It has a much fuller sound in stereo The MONO sound quality is fantastic...very smooth highs...and not harsh like the early cd issues...deeper, more natural bass tones....wider dynamic range....You can actually hear alot of detail in the vocals and music now. The mono mix just has a stronger, fuller sound overall... As far as the Stereo versions....I would grab A HARD DAYS NIGHT....BEATLES FOR SALE....HELP...WHITE ALBUM....PAST MASTERS...and ABBEY ROAD...LET IT BE and LET IT BE NAKED (as they aren't available in mono)...but you might search for used versions to hold the cost down...and you might want to get the complete stereo set...if just to get the booklet and jacket....they're easily worth the price...even without the CD I guess the hard core Beatles fans will do what I did and just go buy the complete sets of both....as both have their own merits.

| If ever there was a person to earn the title of "5th Beatle"....it would surely have been George Martin and Brian Epstein....and NOT New York radio DJ, Murray the K.
Martins invaluable knowledge of musical theory and arrangement, as well as his vast overall familiarity with each of the instruments and vocalizing; plus his willingness to bet on a longshot and take risks. It was Brian Epsteins original interest in the band that convinced them to change their appeance/image and got them in the doors at Parlophone in the first place. When you listen back to 1962 to the Decca Tapes, the Tony Sheridan recordings and the Star Club in Hamburg,Germany.....It doesn't take a genius to figure out that NOBODY transcends from being a barely competent musician to the Beatle level in only 14 or 15 months. Also keep in mind that short of Paul McCartney, no one in the band had any formal musical training. I believe this is where George Martin and Brian Epstein come into the picture....Their guidance and vision took a group of 4 very ambitious young men who were extremely talented; yet raw and and transformed them into the biggest band of the century. In very short order, they became better than any of their peers. The bands appearance took on a new look....as well as their sound.. In the studio....Martin undoubtedly helped them to polish their vocal and musical skills...showing them the tips and secrets only the pros were familiar with. It was Martin who helped them accelerate their prowess of the piano and organ...as well as giving them tips on how to accentuate their playing style on guitar, bass and drums..This is the job of a good producer....to get the most out of the performer and to capture it all on tape. So.....If there ever was ANYBODY who deserved to be referred to as a "5th Beatle"....It would have to be George Martin and Brian Epstein. These 2 men were every much a Beatle as the 4 who you saw on all the records and cd's. When I think back to all the hoopla that was associated with Beatlemania....I am really convinced that it wasn't all hype at all....These guys (with the help of Brian and George) really deserved all that attention and they truly were a phenomenon and destined to be the BAND OF THE CENTURY. If you doubt me....just listen to the music. *************************************** I consider A Hard Days Night to be the pinnacle of The Beatles recorded success...every song a literal masterpiece...The stereo mix is true and not that hokey "left-music, right-vocals" B.S. that basically ruined the listenability of PLEASE PLEASE ME, WITH THE BEATLES and RUBBER SOUL. One suggestion....when you listen to the CD...program your tracks to play YOU CANT DO THAT to follow CANT BUY ME LOVE (as it was the 8th song written and recorded for the movie). DVD owners will note that recent versions of the movie now have them performing YOU CANT DO THAT live in front of the studio audience..along with the other 7 songs. The overall remastering has a slightly cleaner sound and a tad more detail than previous CD's...but also consider that the master acetates it was recently culled from, are now 22 years older then when the original cd's were made in 1987. My biggest criticism of the whole catalogue....They should have included BOTH stereo and mono versions of each album (as they did with the Capitol album box sets).... I see they have released a MONO BOX SET...just some more of Capitols old tricks to get even more money out of our wallets. All in all, they did a nice packaging....I think you may want to invest in plastic sleeves for the CD tho, as sliding them in and out of those hard, scratchy paper cases will eventually scuff the playing surfaces to the point of skipping...if you aren't extremely careful.

Some people have stated they prefer the MONO version of this album.....but unless you are prepared to buy the COMPLETE REMASTERED CD SET in MONO (which is pretty costly)...You better stick with this version.....as you wont find the mono version anywhere else.....until they decide to issue the MONO versions individually. I would say....All in all...it's worth the investment.

All in all....I think Capitol is back to their old tricks...They should have released the PLEASE PLEASE ME...WITH THE BEATLES and RUBBER SOUL in MONO and pitched the hokey stereo mixes. Another point...the remaster of PAST MASTERS has From Me To You and Thank You Girl in that hokey stereo mix...whereas the ooriginal Past masters are in MONO...and sound much better....I went with that...and also found that using my mastering software..I was able to remaster the old mono versions to at least equal or excell over these new stereo remasters..

The playing and singing have improved consistently and their writing is very compteant.....It is difficult to distinguish the cover tunes from Beatle originals....They have the uncanny ability to make any song they play...a Beatles original...Funny that not many bands had the ability to pull that off successfully......The Stones couldn't do it...and The Who came close with a few tracks they did on Live at Leeds. My biggest criticism of this effort is that the hokey STEREO mix is B.S. and they should have stuck with the mono versions..The Past Masters orinal version has She Loves You and I'll Get You in true mon..Besides...The mono mixes have more punch and the singles sound more like you remember them sounding on the radio. The Remaster is in stereo...unfortunately...the only place to find true MONO mixes of This Boy and I Want To Hold Your Hand...are on the MEET THE BEATLES disc in the Capitol Album Box Set Vol 1......and with a slight bit of remastering...you too can achieve dazzling results from your old original mono cd's. All in all....forget the remaster..unless just for the packaging....The MONO mixes are the way to go

If you enjoy the stereo effect of "music on the left, vocals on the right"...then this is right up your alley... This recording lacks the drive The Beatles were known for. I did what many of you did back on Sept 9th....purchased the entire STEREO catalogue of remasters...and then proceeded to listen to them....only to be very disappointed with many of the stereo mixes My solution was to go ahead and purchase the MONO REMASTER BOX....it contains the first 10 Beatle albums (up thru the WHITE ALBUM) in true MONAURAL sound...They sound the way The Beatles intended you to hear them...and they capture all the energy and definition of a real Beatle performance. The benefit of having the STEREO REMASTERS....the enclosed booklet and outer jacket are easily worth the $12.... They should have included BOTH stereo and mono mixes in the remaster package..sort of how they did with the CAPITOL ALBUM BOX SETS

| This album followed the steam they created with the double LIVE of 1977....It single handedly captures the definitive GE sound better than anything short of 1973's MOONTAN...NO PROMISES NO DEBTS and PRISONER OF THE NIGHT follow the trend closely...Pushing the solid basic rock drive (minus the horns that made their appearance on some later albums)that was their live trademark sound. These would be the efforts that any new GE fan would want to goive listen to first. | ||

| This was a major blast from my past....being the longtime Genesis fan from the beginning.... How some of these heartless cd sharks can sleep at night attempting to rape buyers for unreasonably high amounts for a cd like this....$100.00 for a used copy??? is way beyond my comprehensions. I recently scored a brand new sealed import of this selection from another source....NOT AMAZON.....for only $17.99, which is much more realistic for a rare and hard to find cd. You can find a copy as they do exist. I dont like doing record reviews...as I am not a credited reviewer...nor will I even attempt to be....What I am is an avid collector with a very diverse taste in music..centering on the progressive rock bands of the late 1960s and thru the 70's and 80's.. I will also tell you that the sound quality of this selection is flawless..So sweet and the quiet soft passages just melt deeply into your soul...like a fine cognac...If you liked this album on vinyl....you will love the mastering of the import CD...As a bonus..there is an extra track...."Master of Time"...Which fits in very nicely to the sound mix...as it was probably omitted from the final album..A second bonus: Phil collins and Michael Rutherford played on this album..Thus adding that unmistakable signature "Genesis" sound....It has that early fairy tale ambience about it...which hints "what if...just maybe... Ant was still playing in Genesis..." Important note: You need to remember that Ant left the band before Phil came aboard on drums.....So this is almost like..The band that didn't happen..at least...not back then. My biggest unanswered question is....After Peter Gabriel left Genesis...and Steve Hackett exited after Wind and Wuthering..Why didn't Ant return....I guess at this point in time..it really doesn't matter..It would sure have been nice if he had.. I wish you the best of luck in your search for this CD at a decent price..It is worth having and everybody who appreciated Ants contributions to Genesis should own a copy. | ||

| I have been a devoted Moodies fan since 1967...have every LP and every cd ever released..with the exception of the compilations (which are just overkill)..and the new SACD versions (which are just another money pit for you to cast your hard earned loot)... I gave this a fair listen....and my personal opinion is....They took a band who recorded their music in the 60s and early 70s and then take snipets of these classic recordings of yesteryear and then insert and contort athem to fit in with an orchestral soundtrack. What you have are two completely different musical eras in history....I suppose they thought they could recreate the "Days of future Passed" feeling meets the millenium. It just didn't do a thing for me...Not to take away from the Moodies because I love them and everything they've done....but this doesn't match anything they ever did....and certainly not the "Days" effort....The only way I culd see an improvement of that album...would be if they remixed the band portion of that engineers tape to match the sonic fidelity of the orchestra and then remake the master......to date...nobody has attempted that....all the remasering efforts have made the orchestra sound greater and the band is still stuck in a kind of murky garage sound..... As far as this CD...save your money. | ||

![]() | "All in all...a great souvenier for 1969 Moodies fans" | 2006-10-30 |
| I will admit that the sound quality isn't the best...but anybody who was around in 1969 can agree that most all live recordings from this era sound about the same. If you're a long time Moodies fan and never got to see them live....and if you never grabbed the vinyl version when first released in 1977...this would be a bargain for you....and a nice addition to your collection. The recordings acoustics are similar to that of an arena...I believe it was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall...as that is the building pictured on the case. I personally like the audience and background noises....it gives a bit of realism and an audience vantage point to the listener. The 5 bonus tracks were also released on the PRELUDE cd..along with 6 other unreleased tracks from the early days. Something else that all true devoted Moodies fans should be without. | ||

![]() | "It's an ok performance...." | 2006-10-18 |
| The performance is OK....Frampton should have stuck to NEWER material...as he did with the FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE II back in 1995....The current versions of "Do you feel like we do" are weak and he should have done alot less on the talk box...it was cheesy...
As I pointed out in the review I did for COMES ALIVE II...Frampton himself always stated that his material was best suited for the stage....He should have used this media to introduce all new songs that were omitted on the last 3 live album sets from 1975..1976 and 1995. Should he decide to do a COMES ALIVE III...that might be an idea.

![]() | "Regardless what other reviewers said...I like it" | 2006-08-26 |
| I found the later copy that has all 17 tracks on a single cd...was a British Import. The sound quality is far better than the other recordings I have encountered from that era....as well as the boots of the 1982 Mapleleaf Gardens Concert on Dec 17, 1982. What you're getting here is basically a smorgasbord of tracks from that 1982 Farewell Tour...from a varied venue. I still found the recording quality to be fairly consistent....taking in consideration different stages and different acoustics....all the technical variables that contribute to the sound of a recording. All in all..I consider it to be a valued assett to any fans Who collection. Many of the purests thumb their nose at these recordings, as they prefer the band in the Keith Moon days. Kenny Jones gave the band the opportunity to keep going thru 2 more excellent studio albums and he also supplied a rock steady percussive foundation...something Keith frequently lacked in. Keith was a dramatic showman and percussive whirlwind....but much of the time...his performance got in the way of his ability to lock down a solid groove with John. Kenny permitted the band that foundation to cut loose with. Johns bass rips thru like a razor and locks in tightly with Kennys drumming. I have the complete Toronto show on CD....and attended 2 shows from that tour....this CD brings back those memories nicely. | ||

![]() | "Excellent representation of rock in 1973" | 2006-05-04 |
| This is a fantastic album....not just the fact it contains the bands biggest hit "Radar Love"....but also because it contains several numbers that were live masterpieces. "Big Tree, Blue Sea" should be noted that it is different from the version on the Dutch cd and this is the only place you will find this version.
I have been a longtime fan and have every cd they ever made...altho I consider this an excellent album....I wouldn't sell their other cd's short....Check them out while they're still available. Some I recommend are: Live 1977...Grab it for a second...Prisoner of the night...No promises no debts...Contraband...To the hilt....Switch..Moontan (Dutch version).these would represent the band in the 1973-80 stage of their career.
| Renaissance - In the Land of the Rising Sun: Live in Japan 2001 | ||
![]() | "This would be more like Annie Haslam Live in Japan" | 2006-01-25 |
| One thing that all you true Renaissance fans should make note of....this is only a PARTIAL reunion of the band.
Annie Haslam : vocals Michael Dunford : acoustic guitars, vocals Terence Sullivan : drums, percussion Missing is John Tout : Keyboards extraordinaire (he made the Band sound like a symphony and appeared on the first 9 albums) Jon Camp : Bass and vocals..He appeared on the first 11 albums and sang lead on several songs. Altho the songs are competantly performed....the bass and keys were an integral part of the Renaissance sound....and that's the part that any TRUE fan will immediately notice is missing....Close but no cigar. Altho I am a longtime Renaissance fan....without the inclusion of John Tout and Jon Camp...this cannot be considered a TRUE reunion tour..or album Am sorry....but 3/5th of a great band isn't a reunion.

![]() | "EXCELLENT RECORDING QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE" | 2005-08-06 |
| This was recorded at the height of Pats fame...her first 2 albums were kicking ass all over the charts...there were a whole legion of Pat clones starting to surface everywhere....none were anywhere near the real deal tho.
The tracks on this reveal what a fantastic band they were....including Pat...the musicianship is awesome...My clone sleeps alone ....is incredible in an extended version. You might think these guys couldn't recreate their studio sound live???? well..this CD puts that idea to rest...every track is a killer....they surpassed any expectations...The energy and power crammed onto this disc will prove, without a doubt.....these guys can rock. Just go buy the CD...ok????

| Look....I am not gonna waste your time by reviewing each song....if you are considering this album....you are already familiar with the studio versions....
What I will tell you is.....forget the EARTHBOUND live album...probably the worst sounding official album I ever heard..and to think...they said it was HDCD.....what a joke...I feel totally ripped off for buying that Earthbound piece of crap...but THIS album.....WOW!!!! It has everything you'd expect from a KING CRIMSON performance.....very transparent...and well balanced....tight drums and bass....and the musicianship...well.....that's what a KC performance or studio album is really all about......it's all here....and you have a front row seat......to experience over and over and over.... Just go order the CD...you wont be disappointed...I promise.

![]() | "Dont waste your money....sound quality is crap" | 2005-07-27 |
| You'd be a fool to waste your money on this.....regardless of the fact it is a HDCD....it was obviously a poor quality soundboard tape......the vocals are so overdriven....they actually burp.......the music isnt all that bad......for recorded quality......but if you really must buy it....just get a cheap used copy......I spent $5.99 for mine used...and that was even too much. | ||

![]() | "The quality of the songs is excellent...but a waste of money if you already have the collection of CD's" | 2005-07-22 |
| Look....dont be just another fool parted with their hard earned money.....if you already have the cd's....of all the music THE BEATLES released.....you're either a chump...or your bankroll exceeds your common sense.... I love THE BEATLES...but am sick of all the same material being duplicated to death....just anoth marketing hoax to keep the bucks flowing in | ||

![]() | "I WISH THE RECORD COMPANY WOULD REISSUE THIS!!!" | 2005-06-11 |
| I have been waiting patiently to see a rerelease of this excellent testiment of early Steppenwolf...LIVE in action...but I refuse to pay an assinine amount of cash for a cd. For all the insignificant garbage that sees its way into being released and rereleased....this is definitely one that DESERVES to be reissued. GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND DO IT!!!! | ||

![]() | "This album blows away the original CD" | 2005-05-02 |
| Now this is a CD you will definitely want to grab up while they last.
The bonus tracks should have been included the first go round...but, oh well. The sound is much stronger and louder than the original CD....it matches the other masters well. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RELEASE THE "BIG GENERATOR" ALBUM IN THIS FORMAT???????
