Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR CamerasCanon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras
Rated 4 Stars"Enter the Flasher!" 2009-11-05
I've been lusting for Canon's top-of-the-heap speedlight flash and am very happy to have waiting for the best. The 580EXII puts out a massive amount of light and recovers in the blink of an eye. The instruction manual is only so-so but you can search the internet for more details.

I'd give it another star if the Amazon price hadn't gone up so much in the last few months (in this tough economy). Still the flash is built to last and even the case is rugged enough to last a long, long, time.

Wow TiVo, where have you been all my life? Actually, I've never been one to watch much TV (hate senseless commercials, etc), but the user friendly interface on TiVo is *REALLY* well thought out and easy to master. Perhaps I'm a bit of a techie, but I didn't have any problems getting the unit setup complete with the wireless WiFi, additional 500GB MyDVR, etc. Oh, I did make the mistake of picking up two M-Cards from Comcast when I only needed to install one (only two S-Cards are needed if you go that route); at any rate the first M-Card went belly-up after 12 hours (typical Motorola infant mortality) so I popped in the second one and had Comcast re-register it to the new serial number.

I had no idea of the TiVo's functionality, like downloading podcasts/videocasts, ability to download tens of thousands of movies from Amazon Unbox, etc. Still, after reading the litany of possible technical problems loading TiVo desktop software on my Personal Computer (you'll see the myarid list of possible snafus when you try to install it), I decided not to install it at this time - besides the TiVo desktop has a 5GB footprint and many more for each movie (especially if it's HD). But I can't see that much of a benefit watching videocasts on my big High-Def TV at this time - perhaps after TiVo gets all the kinks out of the Desktop application, I'll eventually download it (hate to be on the bleeding edge). Otherwise, this is one slick puppy everyone should enjoy!

Happy Trails, Michael

Okay, you've got to be a techie to be looking at this type of high-end device, right? Well, you won't be disappointed no matter where you fit on scale - this unit is a beautiful, high-tech machine that lives up to its reputation. I love the feature/functionality, ease of setup and use, performance, and engineering that should meet my needs for years to come.

Sony SA-W2500 Performance Line 150 Watt Subwoofer - BlackSony SA-W2500 Performance Line 150 Watt Subwoofer - Black

This baby performs very well and sports a myriad of audio input connectors. Since I'm only using it for a second sub-woofer, I've split the pre-amp input out of my receiver to this and another subwoofer. But there's also a wide assortment of input-output connectors, showing that Sony engineers gave some serious design consideration here. IMHO, the case isn't particularly attractive but since most of us won't be displaying our subwoofer as a piece of furniture, that's okay by me. At any rate, this bad boy has an excellent price-performance ratio.

Great speakers for the price. True, these speakers aren't going to shake-up your intestines nor break your window glass, but they do provide a sweet sound for an excellect price/performance ratio. The separate speaker stand seemed a bit pricey but, like other Onkyo gear, it's all well built and integrates very well like "hand in glove." For my taste, I've cranked up the sub-woofer a bit and love it - IMHO, definitely the best part of the package.

Fantastic content and narrative! McGee's book is awesome however the Audio CD really brings it all to life. Candidly, I'm surprised Robert is also so talented narrating the audio - this is a must-have purchase, even if you've already bought is book "Story".

The Canon ZR800 camcorder is a solid little unit with plenty of features for the most folks. And with a great price, it's surprising that Canon even included an external microphone input (after all, 90 percent of video is the AUDIO). Actually, I bought the ZR800 as a "deck" to play and capture mini-DV tapes that were recorded on my prosumer camcorder (avoiding wear and tear on the expensive cameras), but once I tried the ZR800 I loved it and often use it for day to day use instead of hauling around huge camcorders.
