Samsung T200HD 20Samsung T200HD 20" Touch of Color Series LCD Monitor
Rated 5 Stars"Fantastic computer monitor and HDTV!" 2009-09-05
I originally purchased this monitor as an external monitor for a MacBook Pro, but I am now also using it daily as an HDTV. As a computer monitor, it is not quite as crisp and sharp as the MacBook's LCD, but that is not surprising, due to the extremely high quality of Apple LCDs. Likely the only way to match the quality of the MacBook LCD is to purchase an Apple Cinema Display ($$$).

As a computer monitor, I have been very happy (using DVI connection).

As a bonus, this monitor included a built-in HDTV tuner, so I plugged in some old rabbit ears and started watching OTA HDTV. Wow!

The speakers are a bit weak, so I sometimes plug in my external computer speakers to the TV's headphones jack.

Because I was enjoying the HDTV so much, I finally connected a DirecTV HD DVR (HR22) to this TV, and now it can get all of my channels, not just OTA. The DVR connects via HDMI, and the quality is excellent.

This TV's remote is also nice and simple and easy to use.

The onscreen menus are crisp and easy to understand.

I really only have 2 complaints about this monitor: (1) speakers are weak (but to be expected in a monitor this small), and (2) it attracts dust like crazy!

I highly recommend this monitor either as a computer monitor or an HDTV - or both!

Rated 4 Stars"User-friendly phone but bad web experience" 2009-08-21
I bought this phone for my 11 year old son so that he can text with all of his friends (most of his friends seem to already have cell phones - a bit shocking to me). We have been very pleased with this phone, although it ends up not being much less expensive than an iPhone once you add in all the similar features. The major negative would be the web experience, as the web browser and web speed are surprisingly horrible, despite the 3G. It must have a very slow processor and/or very poor web browser software. If you intend to do a lot of web browsing, then I recommend against this phone. However, if it is primarily for phone calls and text messaging, then it is great.

As an iPhone user, I was a bit surprised how you get nickel and dimed if you want to add features similar to the iPhone. For example, on the iPhone, you have Google Maps for free GPS functionality (although it does not have turn by turn instructions). On this phone, you have to subscribe to AT&T's GPS service, which is an extra $10/month (ouch). Similarly, with an iPhone and MobileMe, you can get free location services via Find My iPhone. With this phone, you have to pay an extra $10/month for AT&T's FamilyMap feature. If you add those in plus a data plan, you are already higher than the iPhone's $30/month data plan fee. So really ask yourself how you will use the phone. The iPhone ends up being a better value for heavy users (and provides a much better web experience), but this phone is awesome for text messaging.

The battery life on this phone is also excellent (far superior to the iPhone 3GS).

The music player is pretty lame if you are used to an iPod or iPhone, but it does get the job done

One major complaint if you want to listen to music is that there is no standard headphone jack, and I have had a hard time finding an adapter to use regular earbuds with the phone. The Motorola adapter that is out there apparently does not work with this phone, and I so far have not been able to find a compatible accessory.

The user interface is intuitive and easy to learn, my 11 year old son got up to speed quickly. The only negative I can think of is that it's not obvious how to quickly put the phone in silent or vibrate mode.

Overall, I highly recommend this phone if it fits your needs (no major web usage), especially with the great prices available. I wouldn't replace my iPhone with it, but if the iPhone didn't exist, I wouldn't mind having this phone as my own. My son loves it.

Be warned that if you have a 2004-2007 style Toyota Prius, this is a nightmare to install. There are multiple steps that simply are impossible to perform without improvising. Unless you are extremely handy or can have this professionally installed, I would avoid this for a Prius. I did finally get mine successfully installed, but it took 3 days and lots of problem solving when the steps in the instructions were either unclear or physically impossible. What a nightmare.

I was very much enjoying watching Roger and Me until a live rabbit was killed and skinned in the movie! The scene seemed to go on forever.

What a shame that an otherwise great documentary was ruined by this unnecessary and offensive scene. The point could have been made without the graphic footage.

My 7 year old son was very disappointed with the mix of cards in this 5 pack. Lots of duplicates and no cards that he perceived as rare and/or powerful.

Rated 5 Stars"Simply Amazing" 2006-05-01
We just replaced a Dell notebook and desktop with a MacBook Pro and iMac. OS X is just amazing, and I can't believe that Apple hasn't stolen more market share.

The iMac is perfect. The MacBook Pro has a few quirks to be aware of:

1. When the CPU is idle and the MacBook Pro is on battery, there is a medium to high pitch sound that emits from the computer. This drove me crazy the first two days, but now I don't notice it as much. Apple will hopefully fix this soon via a firmware update. In the meantime, there is an easy workaround: launch and minimize Photo Booth, and it consumes just enough CPU to make the sound go away. Also, the sound seems to disappear about 90% when on A/C instead of battery.

2. The MacBook Pro gets very hot when plugged in. It won't burn you, but it is surprisingly hot. You probably won't want to put it on your lap.

3. The MacBook Pro is heavy, relative to ultra portables.

4. The keyboard is hard to get used to for Windows switchers. It takes two keystrokes to do things like DEL, HOME, END, etc. The iMac keyboard is easier.

For reasons 2 and 3, consider this a "portable" and not a "laptop."

Despite these issues, this is the best portable computer I have ever owned, primarily due to OS X and .Mac.

Also - my first reaction was that I might have trouble getting used to the wide screen and how low it goes. Nope - it is a pleasure to work with.

For Windows switchers -- expect a frustrating first day but also lots of smiles how everything just works first try.

Overall, I would highly recommend the MacBook Pro to anyone not needing an ultra lightweight portable.

This book is outstanding and an essential read for anyone doing web-based application development.

It is very eye-opening to the current state of web security.

Our son really wanted this for Christmas. But after only a few hours playing with it, he was quickly bored with it, and he hasn't played with it since.

Kind of expensive for a toy that kids get bored with a few hours later.

The only thing missing is some dress-up shoes to go along with it :-)

Rated 3 Stars"Doesn't work with PC USB cable" 2006-03-31
This Y-Adapter is great if you want to use it with an A/C charger or with a car charger.

But I had hoped I could use it with a PC USB cable, so that I wouldn't have to bring any charger!

It actually will charge a bluetooth headset (using the proprietary connector, not the mini-USB connector) from the PC's USB (assuming you already have the optional USB to mini-USB cable for your phone), but the instructions specifically tell you NOT to connect this Y-adapter to a USB cable. The instructions state to ONLY use this Y-adapter with an A/C cord or with a vehicle cord. Bummer.

It will NOT charge the phone via USB. You have to plug the phone directly into the PC (not using the Y) to get the phone to charge.

So it's still a worthwhile device that allows you to leave the bluetooth charger at home, but you will still need the phone's charger to charge the bluetooth unless you want to ignore the instructions and charge the bluetooth from the USB and Y (and the phone from the USB without the Y). Confusing? Bottom line is don't expect this to charge from PC USB, only from A/C or car charger.

Rated 5 Stars"Great replacement for Treo 600" 2006-03-26
I've had the Treo 600 (Sprint) for the past 2 years, and I was getting tired of the bulk and the weight. I also didn't care for Sprint's tools (check out Cingular's MEdia Net). I bought the Treo primarily for e-mail, but I realized I am usually just reviewing and not sending messages.

The RAZR V3 Black has exceeded my expectations (I also bought a pink one for my wife), and it is actually superior to the Treo 600 in many areas.

I am also impressed with Cingular so far, which seems to have better coverage than Sprint in my area (Seattle). The MEdia Net tools are incredible, especially if you are a March Madness fan.

Many features, such as text messaging, seem much easier to use with Cingular and the RAZR than with Sprint and the Treo.

Web browsing also seems slightly faster on Cingular than on Sprint.

Some people complained about low volume. I think this must have been corrected on newer models, as mine is quite loud.

This phone was recalled in early 2006, so it's important to buy from a reputable dealer, where you know you are getting a post-recall (at least mid-March 2006) version of the phone.

Couple of tips:

1. Go to the mobile section of Yahoo and find out how to synchronize your Yahoo Calendar and Contacts with your RAZR calendar and contacts -- it is very cool. You actually synchronize over GPRS instead of via your PC.

2. You can get a mini-USB cable to charge your RAZR from your laptop.

3. Download Opera Mini web browser (mini.opera.com from your phone's WAP browser) to supplement the limited WAP browser.

Potential show stoppers for some people:

1. Haven't found a way yet to access multiple e-mail accounts. The included POP/IMAP client seems to only allow one account. There is also support for major ISPs (e.g., Yahoo Mail) independent of the POP/IMAP client.

2. Haven't found a good case yet, so I'm a bit scared sticking it in my pocket unprotected.

3. The SAR rate seems a bit high, especially during data transmission mode.

4. The speaker phone is not very good quality, so I end up using the bluetooth headset most of the time.

All in all, we are very happy with our Black and Pink RAZRs on Cingular!

I was quite surprised when this cable arrived and was a 6 pin male to 6 pin male cable (device to device cable). The product description is poor and doesn't mention this.

Make sure you don't buy this cable unless you are wanting a device to device cable! (not a device to PC cable).

Rated 2 Stars"Great features, poor reliability." 2002-12-06
I love this laptop when it works. It has all the latest and greatest features. Integrated WiFi is my personal favorite feature. The reason for only 2 stars is that I'm on my 3rd system board in less than a year. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is that each time it took WEEKS to get a replacement system board (it seems that lots of people were needing replacement system boards). So I was out of business for weeks at a time while waiting on a replacement system board, which is totally unacceptable for me. Dell, on the other hand, gets you replacement parts the next day. As much as I love the features of this notebook, it will be my last Toshiba.
